Oh, the next Air New Zealand "Hobbit" tie-in video - it's a commercial this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7q7WFMuxsg

... after a few false starts :-) Again, the happiness in your face at hearing the Shire theme - wonderful again. I like these movies. I'm a big fan of the original source books and in this movie there is a bit of new story content - but I do like the movie as a movie. I think some of the non-book parts actually work really well - I know some people disagree but I can justify almost all of the additions. For example, and you pointed this out in your commentary (and I have also made this exact point before to others), in the book we really don't get to have a deep relationship to any of the people in Lake Town. Of course we wouldn't want anyone to be threatened by a dragon - but by adding some non-book scenes we now really care about the people in the town and their predicament. That is a good addition in my mind. I also enjoyed the 3D movie edition - again some people didn't like it. Of course, I couldn't watch that version this time because, unaccountably, you didn't film your reaction with a 3D camera so my 3D-glasses wouldn't work ;-) And that cliffhanger! BTW: I hope you are getting a chance to listen to the end-credit songs - they are all pretty good. But you really must listen to the third film song if you can - along with watching the credits while it's playing. You're right about the dwarf team work in the barrel sequence - we've seen the dwarves working like this all the way back in Bag End with the smashing-the-plates song - which is actually part of the reason for including that song action in the first movie. Did you notice Bilbo pulling out a golden cup just before Smaug awakens? The use of the cup is based on the book, but that idea was taken by Tolkien from the Beowulf poem (the 3000 line epic poem that we mentioned in the book-club which also provided the source for the Golden Hall in LOTR). Yes, they did put people on wires for some of the graceful elf choreography. On the other hand, there is some BTS video of Orlando on a wire attempting to gracefully land on the wooden bridge in Lake Town ... and ... well, missing ... in multiple takes. There is some great BTS footage of Benedict Cumberbatch, acting out Smaug, slithering around on his chest in the studio (with lots of motion-capture markers) and doing the same slithering in the ADR studio. Actually, Benedict mentioned that he was reprising the role of Smaug from the way his parents had read him the book when he was a child. In related, personal history: when I first bought the complete audio-book of The Hobbit - there were two tracks missing - two separate full pages of the book were missing. There was nothing the store I bought it from could do (it was a CD pressing error). So I got my father to record those pages and I edited it into my MP3s - so I get to hear my dad when I listen to it. Always, nice to see various cameos: Peter Jackson in the Bree street, and his daughter as a server (Betsy Butterbur). And Stephen Colbert (and family) playing some of the Lake Town spies. And good to see Stephen Fry as the Master of Lake Town. There are some extended scenes that are particularly ... Looking forward to the next one - thanks.

Yes of course! And small pointers for when you start Game of Thrones... subtitles help alot and lots of reactors write down quick notes during to keep track of everything since there’s a bunch of characters. :)

I'm considering it! I truly haven't decided yet since I didn't watch the first two extended ones but since I do have it available to me I'm leaning more towards it! Thank you for being excited with me!

HELL YES!!!! This made my weekend! Can't wait for the last one! For the third hobbit movie, they have the extended version on HBO and it's definitely worth it because it has a bunch of awesome fighting scenes that are not in the normal cut. Just a suggestion!
