"I thought they smelled bad on the outside.", Han Solo, "The Empire Strikes Back" These films have the same introduction. After the text scroll we stay looking at the star-scape for a few moments before we tilt or pan to the planet/spacecraft we want to focus on. I like the way the film makers have consistency of film grammar across the series. It's difficult to recall, but when I first watched this film (and I always try to stay away from any spoilers), I'm sure I was completely taken in with the cute but annoying creature who might or might not know how to contact Yoda. Of course, these days, everyone know what Yoda looks like so are not fooled when he appears. And Frank Oz does an amazing job at puppeteering Yoda - he's just another character in the scenes. The Imperial March gets used everywhere - many college football team bands have it as part of their repertoire. It's a powerful sound and a little bit difficult to avoid these days. To get a reference in about LOTR (and I can always get a reference in about LOTR), the sword master they used to train people like Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) in the use of swords for the films was the legendary Bob Anderson. Anyway, Bob Anderson, himself, was inside the Vader costume during the lightsabre duel with Luke. Oh, and he also trained the actors for the fencing scenes in "The Princess Bride". And talking about LOTR: when I see Luke take down an Imperial Walker single handed, I have the urge to tell him "That still only counts as one!" - if you know what I mean.
