Ignoring the obvious "The Lord of the Rings" tie-in ("Elrond" was played by Hugo Weaving who played "Agent Smith"), I think one of the more interesting tie-ins was that Barrie Osborne was a exec producer on "The Matrix" and a producer on "The Lord of the Rings" movies. Barrie suggested that they use Digital Grading on LotR because they had used it in "The Matrix".
