For sure! Would it have been the polite and kind thing to allow Rhaena to try and claim Vhagar first? Totally. But this kid’s whole plot so far, at this point in the story, is desperately wanting a dragon, and viewing that as being intrinsically tied with his identity as a Targaryen.

I am finding House of the Dragon to be beautifully nuanced so I know there's a lot of depth and meaning to the moments in the show that I wont catch first watch. so comments like this are huge help! Vhagar did indeed give Aemond a lil trial there and he lived to tell the tale. For better or worse

2024-10-11 04:08:05 +0000 UTCI just wanna say that the dragon does choose. There’s no reason Rhaena would have any right to Vhagar, technically. If she had tried to claim her, Vhagar could have accepted her or she could have rejected and/or killed her if she wanted to, regardless of having previously chosen her mother to bond with. Vhagar is hundreds of years old and has had a few riders in her lifetime and it was cool how they portrayed Aemond claiming her. It seemed like she was giving him a run for his money, a try out, even. And ultimately it’s clear she chose well for herself as Aemond managed to get the hang of things.
