Full Length | The Walking Dead 2x7

HOLY COW, this is the episode. This one left me with a LOT of thoughts... from shane to story pacing to world building. My heart aches but what a great way to spark discussion and emotion.

Now this is just an opinion based on what we know so far, I've read the comics, I dunno how it differs from the show but it does differ I just don't wanna offer opinions or insights that could be spoilers

I don't think Shane is evil, i think he's just in pure survival mode. He is as ruthless as he needs to be for the world. As someone who served in the army as infantry, there was a side of me that I hope my wife and friends never have to see and I think that's where Shane is, in his mind its him and the ones he loves or the world and God help who ever gets in the way of that. Lori is the one I think is being more selfish/evil trying to have everything. I know you are a gamer I dunno if you know anything about dungeons and dragons but there is a behavior system in it called alignment and it ranges from lawful good(super man, capt. America) to chaotic evil (joker, mustache man) and I see Shane as a true neutral showing his actions are for their survival and right and wrong don't factor into it, lori is chaotic neutral showing she's trying to have everything and not think of the consequences and Rick is neutral good showing that he wants to do the right thing laws don't factor into anymore. And this is just my observation so far alignment isn't set in stone, it changes day by day, situation by situation.

he threatened to kill Dale tho, so that's pretty evil in my books. That's not just him being selfish or having a rigid point of view. That's threatening people who can out him for who he really is in his soul.

I wouldn't say the way Shane is acting is evil. Selfish? Sure. But not evil. There are many points where I agree with Shane. That walkers are a threat and the barn should be cleared out. And the shooting Otis was necessary for their escape. The problem with Shane is that he has a rigid point of view and has made it clear that the only people he currently cares about is keeping Lori and Carl safe. While wanting to keep your loved ones safe is a great quality. Shane takes it to the extreme. I don't believe Shane would be a good leader, as we saw here, since he couldn't make the hard decision to put Sophia down. This show does a great job of showing the human element when faced with a survival situation and the difficulties in navigating this new world.
