FLIP

Now announcing... I'm proud to announce that my next graphic novel is called FLIP. I love snappy titles with multiple meanings, and FLIP points to multiple themes and characters in this story! Chi-Chi is our protagonist, but the entire story revolves around her switching bodies with the eponymous character Flip Henderson. Chi-Chi's time in Flip's body teaches her about self-perception and self-acceptance. 

200 PAGES!  SLOW BUT STEADY WINS THE RACE I'M SOMEHOW AT 200 PAGES PENCILED! I've got 100 to go. If I can match this pace, I'll be done with pencils for Flip by October. ;-; After that, I'll be inking the comic through the remainder of 2021. By this time next summer, Flip will hopefully—hopefully be getting through edits for a release in 2023. GAH!!!!

Productivity. Just how do I do it? My week breaks down this way:

• Penciling FLIP. I spend 4 to 5 days each week penciling. My goal for each day is two pages, but some days I only hit one page. My goal each month is between 32 to 40 pages. (I've never hit 40 pages/month ;-;) A typical work day for me includes waking up early (between 6 am and 7 am), but starting work around 9 am or 10am. I take pretty long breaks in the afternoon (2-3 hours, lol) and then I might work until 7 PM or 8 PM. Most days. Lots of flexibility!
• Admin/Other. I spend 1-2 days a week for admin. This means email clearing, doing interviews and phone calls, setting up planners and calendars, and working on other projects. Email clearing might take a few hours depending on if I'm giving feedback to mentees or simply talking to my publisher or agent.
• REST. I spend 1-2 days a week resting! Or at least I try. I suspect that during crunch I'll have 0 days of rest. But crunch does not last forever.

I'm so excited to show you guys the journey of producing an original graphic novel!

Barda & Scott

Expect a lot of drawings of BIG BARDA and SCOTT FREE from me. I'll be sharing my sketches and concepts on Patreon, the discord, and on social media. Big Barda and Scott are characters from DC Comics—specifically from Jack Kirby's 4th World, a cosmic drama about gods embroiled in a millennia long interplanetary war. Ava DuVernay was supposed to direct a movie about this, but uh, DC axed that. 

Anyway! Interesting characters. Would love to read a story about them. Let's hope projects about them don't get axed. 

The planet Apokolips is a realm where music and mirth are misdemeanors, and fear and pain are law. From the moment she was ripped from her mother's arms and began training under the cruel Granny Goodness, Barda's destiny was to become the most ruthless warrior of the land. Now, Barda wants nothing more than to prove her ferocity and loyalty to Granny Goodness and even to the ruler of Apokolips himself: Darkseid.

That is, of course, until she meets Scott Free. The rebellious son of the ruler Darkseid, Scott has been imprisoned after countless attempts to escape from the dark planet. Barda is given one final test of devotion: keep the rebel Free captive and break his spirit in the process. But Scott’s kind heart, unbreakable empathy, and hatred of Darkseid are enough to make Barda question everything she has ever known.

I've added a few new pages to the story and updated the script. This month is about finishing (hopefully!!) pencils! But we'll see.
