Yona of the Dawn: Episode 23 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Link to Reaction: https://pixeldrain.com/u/yH9a68Nb
*Headphone Warning*

After that cliffhanger, I was so curious as to where this story was going to lead us with Soo-won and Yona, and we end up getting quite the surprise -- in both Yona and Soo-won's resolve, their "missions," and what they still "have to do." Ooohhh -- the mystery of this series just cranked to an ELEVEN, especially with Soo-won's character!

I can't believe we're on the penultimate episode of the anime! This was surprising in how it "wrapped" up a lot of threads while setting up others...and STILL NO YELLOW DRAGON?! Are we going to see him before the series' end? I guess we'll find out next week, eh?

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Yona of the Dawn: Episode 23 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Thank you so much for the comment and the links! I can’t wait to see them! Ahhhh, Soo-won’s character is SO interesting and complicated…you can feel his pain, that he cares for Yona, but has something else that must be done now…and….the MYSTERY of it all! I can’t wait to see more in the manga!! I’m glad y’all aren’t spoiling me, either; it’ll make it a great reveal, I’m sure, later on. But yeah, Hak probably suspects Soo-won, too, but that it could be coupled with how Yona’s taken a life. And Oh! So you’re the one asking for Kija’s hand — can’t say I blame you! :D And the Jae-ha scene with the pirates is SO sweet - all the tears in this episode was precious. I loved it! <3 I’m so ready for the manga, but sad the anime is ending. Thanks for the kind words and comment and have a great day, too! :)

I love this episode and, again, we just get a little glimps of Soo-won's character. The series is giving us something but also nothing at the same time. Yona didn't get to think about Soo-won with all the things happening at the moment so seeing him here was a big hit in the gut for her. I can recommend to rewatch/reread this scene after you're caught up with the manga. There are a lot of little things that will make sense. This reunion is so heartbreaking because it's so obvious that Soo-won still cares for them. As much as I love him it sometimes really frustrates me. I think Hak may suspect Soo-won. Who else could have made Yona break down like this? And make her be so absent afterwards? But I do agree that he could also think it's because she realized she just killed someone. One thing I wonder, when Soo-won killed Ill they were standing in the middle of the room. I feel like they had to have a conversation. When Soo-won is on his horse it looks really similar to when we saw his father on the horse. I like this parallel. I'm the woman who asked Kija to marry her. XD The scene between Jae-ha and the pirates gets me everytime. They love eachother so much. So it's really sad to see that Jae-ha's gonna leave now. When everyone started crying I had to too. XD Also I'm not sure if you know but the manga has drama CDs for some arcs/chapters, which I can really recommend too. Also since were here two anime only Soo-won edits from my favourite Akayona editor. The songs just fit his character perfectly. https://youtu.be/huswDw2bdFk https://youtu.be/H5HfnB5UZqY Wish you a wonderful day!!

Soooo ready for the Yellow Dragon!! Ooohhh, I think maybe someone mentioned the stage plays, but I haven't seen them! Oooh, if you have any links to any with subs, feel free to message me! I would like as the year goes on to do a few stage play reactions on here, so that would be fun! And it covering the Volumes 14 and 16 of the manga that I'm going to react to would be AMAZING!! I'm up for any hints on where to find them! :) Thank you! And yesssss, Soo-won became INFINITELY more interesting this episode because he's complex and has a mystery goal; color me intrigued! :) And I think that Hak knows too..I mean, who else could make Yona cry so much?! :( Thank you for the kind words! I definitely am SO excited for the manga and to see how the story continues!! Thanks for the comment, too; I'm so glad y'all voted for this series!!

Ahhhhh, there’s only one more ep left T_T You’ll meet our Yellow Dragon soon 👀👀👀 I was wondering if you will react to the stage plays, or if you even know about them? I know they might be hard to find, especially with subs, but there was one that was floating around a few years back. I think it could still be found on Tumblr (and if you’re interested, I can dm you the links to them), but I’m not sure about how the permissions from the file/sub owners would work so I would double check about that. This particular stage play covers volumes 14-16 of the manga, and I just think it’s just an enjoyable experience! This episode was a nice reflection of the overall events of the anime. It’s always great to be reminded of how far Yona has come and how much she is continuing to grow as she moves forward. But the Soo-won and Yona reunion always breaks my heart. It’s obvious that Soo-won still cares about Yona and Hak, but his unknown goal is much more important that he’s willing to throw all that away to achieve them. It’s so complicated, and that’s what makes it so goooooood. I think Hak had a feeling it was Soo-won that caused Yona to break down, but I do also agree with what you said about maybe he thinks this is the aftermath response of taking a life/disobeying her father’s wish of never using a weapon. In that case, I feel that Hak would still be thinking of Soo-won in that moment because if Soo-won hadn’t killed her father, Yona wouldn’t have had to kill Kumji or take up a weapon. So either way, the “sorrowful bloodlust” is the cause of Hak blaming Soo-won. Anyways, I’ve truly missed this show. I haven’t rewatched it in…maybe three-four years? And it was so much fun to experience it all again alongside with you! I hope you’re ready for the continuation of Yona’s journey in the manga because the arcs past the anime are just *chefs kisses* amazing.

The dynamic between Yona, Soo-won, and Hak is SO compelling and real in this story -- you can see all of the emotions they have towards each other; the years of caring and how being torn apart has deeply affected them. Yessss, I've wondered if Hak "knew." Who else could make Yona break down like that? Soo-Won DEFINITELY became more intriguing after this episode and it was the reunion at this point (early on if you consider the manga) in the story that was needed..that scene afterwards where Yona clutches Hak's sleeve. It's so telling. I do love a slow burn as well! I'm SO excited for the build and to see where the manga takes us! Thank you so much for the kind words and the comment! Cheers to next week! :)

The scene between Yona and Soo-won is one of my favorites in the entire anime. The way the anime handles trauma in a realistic and nuanced manner has always amazed me. But I remember when I watched this show for the first time it was in that scene that made me realize I was watching something special. When Yona sees Soo-won it becomes “real” again so to speak. Of course she becomes distraught. We see her regress for a split second and she becomes similar to how she was in the first episodes. To see the person that betrayed her, killed her father - even if it’s been awhile, even if she’s grown so much since she left the castle he still affects her immensely. The same goes for Hak, even though the episode mainly focused on Yona. I also believe he knew it was Soo-won. It was through seeing how upset Yona was that I think he just knew that there is only one person who ever made her act like that. Jae-ha described his feelings towards Soo-won in this episode as “sorrowful bloodlust” and it’s pretty accurate. Now, about Soo-won, it's true cares about Yona. He hid her from his soldiers and wanted to protect her at that moment. He is a very complicated character and a very conflicted character. There’s not much I can say about him here without spoiling, but his relationships with Yona and Hak are amazingly written But anyways I love the slow burn this show chooses to take when it comes to the recovery of the castle usurpation and how it affects each of them (Soo-won included). I think it’s one of the most well-written points of the manga as a whole. It only builds upon itself and gets better from here. I’m looking forward to your reactions to the manga. Have a good week and see you next week for the final anime reaction :)

I can't wait to talk about Volume 7 in the manga in a few weeks, because these chapters in the manga were so well done and added to the HURT factor of Yona crying! And SERIOUSLY, SUCH a crime that we only get the beginning of the series, here! Hmmmm, that is VERY interesting with your comment about the anime not doing the manga justice! Hmmm, that will be exciting to see unfold in the manga, then! :D And yes! FINALLY, the last episode, but SUCH a good one and one to kick us off towards the manga! Thank you for the kind words and comment! :)

Romaniablack

AHHHHHHH that was so good and man seeing yona crying always makes my heart hurt. Yes. It is a crime that this show basically only animated the introduction of the series. But also speaking as a manga reader, I do not really have confidence that any studtio would do the manga justice. I can not wait for you to meet the cutie next episode!! Thank you for the great reaction! :)
