The Untamed: Episodes 40-41 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*HEADPHONE WARNING*

This may be one of my favorite adaptations of Mingjue and Yao's backstory -- Yao's actor is FLAWLESS in delivering this complicated and layered performance, leaving you guessing what he's lying and being truthful about -- there's maybe only one actor that ends up better than him. ;)

These episodes running the heartbreak of Qin Su, Mingjue's demise, and of course PAPERMAN WUXIAN (always adorable) were so wonderful to see adapted in live action!

Thank you for watching with me and for the support!

The Untamed: Episodes 40-41 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yessss, the first time I saw through the donghua, I really took HuaiSang as a pitiful character who had crumpled from the weight of ruling in his brother’s stead…ho ho ho ho ho….what a summer child I was! :P Everything being so planned out…I love re-reading and re-watching through The Untamed and seeing JUST how calculated it all was. And yessss, Yao puts on quite the performance in the flashback, and we see it reversed with HuaiSang in the present timeline. The battle of actors, indeed, and I love it! Thank you for the kind words and comment, and I’m excited for next week, too! :)

It’s so interesting to go back to see how well-orchestrated Nie Huaisang’s acting is. Like in the first read through, you wouldn’t really pay attention to him crying to Xichen and Yao. But after realizing he’s the mastermind behind it all, you actually see how calculated his moves are. Like you pointed out, he distracted Yao and Xichen away, so that Qin Su could get the letter. It’s so subtle, and if you didn’t know, you would have just completely looked over him. It’s great, it’s like watching the behind the scenes all while watching the actual show. I also like how they sort of give a contrast to both the ‘actors’ of the series. There are many times when we see the switch in Meng Yao’s face between the flashbacks and in the present. Especially when Mingjue is qi deviating, Meng Yao switches so quickly to crying when Huaisang shows up. Equally, in the present, when Meng Yao showed up Nie Huaisang began stage-sobbing as well. It’s like Nie Huaisang is calling back to that moment when his brother ‘died’ and Meng Yao tried to pretend he was innocent of it all. It really is the battle of the actors XD Can’t wait until the next reaction!

Seriously, they REALLY play into Yao being the "villain" in The Untamed - the actor does a great job playing it up, but it's sad it's not as "gray" as the novel. Oohhhhhhhhhhhh and FASCINATING! I'm glad that will actually come up later! :D GOOD! And ugh, censors -- bless this show for sneaking in that tiny moment! I'll have to go back and re-watch for it! :D And yeah, Daddy Jin is the wooooooooooorrrrrrrssssttttt... But thank you for the kind words and comment! OH, next week is going to be FUN! :)

I think you're right. The interpretation of Yao's character is left more open-ended in the novel, whereas in the Untamed the director chose to interpret Yao's position as the darkest on the spectrum. Oh there's a reason why they cut out the scene showing Mingjue burning Huaisang's book. You'll know why. In fact, our cute paperman Wuxian did blow a kiss to Wangji before flying up to his head and pulling the headband. We need microscopic precision when watching this series because of the censors lmao. Daddy Jin not only put Yao as a party planner in the sect but also treated him as someone who did all the dirty work for him. It would be unimaginable for Daddy Jin to let Jin Zixuan take care of Yang and the other shady business. Thank you so much for your wonderful reaction! I can't wait for next week!

God, here we go! Poor Mingjue’s death😫I can’t believe we’re in the last few episodes😭 The juniors discussing Wuxian—knowing that they have different opinions on the matter. And yeah, we really can’t blame Ling for this, he’s basically the victim in all this. The kid you’re talking about is Zizhen, the one trying to be peaceful during the discussion. He’s always being left out of fan discussions and only few remember him🥺I love him but no one remembers him that much😫 If you notice the dinner with the Juniors, you’ll notice that the makeup team forgot to cover Sizhui’s Star tattoo🤣 The way Wuxian acted with Wangji and Ning—it’s like he was caught cheating on his poor husband🤣I loved that. So, the reveal of Ling being Yanli and Zixuan’s kid was supposed to be a sad thing, cause Ning would feel guilty and such, but I love how they made it comedic here. It’s like putting emphasis on the idea of no use dwelling in the past. A huge contrast compared to Ling’s perspective, where he is still greatly affected, and he has every right to feel that way. At that conference, Cheng could have easily gone ahead and alerted the entire Jin clan that Wei Wuxian is here. They could have cornered him, but they didn’t. People say that Cheng despises Wuxian, but this small scene proves otherwise. This is the perfect moment to corner Wuxian but they didn’t. And I believe it’s because he still cares about Wuxian. I know this is repetitive, but just wanna remind you that the “q” is pronounced as “ch”😅 it’s annoying to remember I know lol. Had the same problem when I started trying to learn. They changed the whole idea of Mo Xuanyu being gay and harassing Yao due to censorship stuff, you’re right there. The show already had a lot of implications about the orientation of the characters, confirming it could have caused the show to be rejected and be forcefully rewritten. The way Wuxian actually thinks of ruining Wangji’s name through the mud over his own safety, too. It’s sweet.🥺he thinks about his effect on people if they get involved and it’s just sad. HUAISANG YOU BEAST! Absolute MADLAD! Best actor EVER! I love the little teaching moment Wuxian and Ling have, and how Wuxian is slowly influencing Ling on his Jiang side. Cause the Jiangs are supposed to be people who go with instinct. They are rough and rowdy and will act on impulse, according to Fengmian. “Attempt the impossible”, he said. I think Ling is more Jiang than Jin, based on his actions, his want to help despite his reluctance, his spirit for fight? All that is just screaming Jiang Sect instinct. Also, I want to comment on the language here. Ling’s subtitles says “Jin Guangyao” but he says “Jin-shushu”. “Shushu” is only used for your uncle on the father’s side. If you listen what he uses for Cheng, he calls Cheng “jiujiu”. “Jiujiu” is the uncle from one’s mother’s side. So both mean uncle but just differentiate on whose side. I hope you noticed the lil flying kiss paper!Wuxian gave Wangji🥺so cute🥺and yeah, Yibo did so well here, I believe that scene was only one take each time for each angle? I also love the little espionage music they added🤣 That tension between Qin Su and Yao, tho! God that slap—I love it. And the way Yao just switches from calm to terrified to strict then back to calm. Holy heck. I know it’s weird to comment on this but there’s a reason for all the hair swooshing. The reason why their hair swooshes even when there’s seemingly no reason for it is actually indicating that the energy around them is swirling, thus picking up the wind around the user. I missed Mingjue. I really did. I missed that handsome mustache— Yao hadn’t met Xichen in that earlier part of the flashback. He’s still just a servant boy here. So the blue robes are mainly just aesthetic. I love just Wangji on standby, ever so ready with anything he might need. The same way Xichen is also always on standby for Yao. The parallels! It is said that when a Lan person loves, they love hard and would gladly give their heart. We see it’s true to both Lan siblings. I find it hilarious how they didn’t even bother to hide the fact that the Song of Chaos was different 🤣it’s so clear that it is. Maybe they just want to emphasize on Mingjue being really dumb about music, which is…on point, if you ask me. Huaisang’s screams are painful. It’s just heartbreaking. IT’S EVEN MORE HEARTBREAKING WHEN YOU GET TO THEIR MOVIE😭😭😭I won’t give spoilers on that, I promise. But you mentioned the book burning, and something like that does happen in the movie itself. If you notice Mingjue pointing the saber, he’s pointing at Yao. And the story they came up with as to where Mingjue went, Yao told the world that he went on a rampage and left. In speculation, it is believed that Yang controlled Mingjue to run away but only for a short while. More on the language side, though. The subtitles says their names but Huaisang calls Xichen, Yao, and Mingjue varying degrees of the word “Brother”. Each one represents seniority. “Da-ge” translates to eldest brother. “Da”, meaning eldest, “ge” is the informal term for older brother. It’s also used in gangs when referring to their boss. This is different from what Wangji uses for Xichen. He uses “Xiongzhang” to refer to Xichen, which is more formal, as expected of Wangji. Xichen is called “Er-ge”, which means seconds brother. “Er” means both “two” in terms of counting, as well as “second” in terms of order. And Yao is called “San-ge” meaning third brother. I AM EXCITED FOR NEXT WEEK! I HAVE A HUGE EASTER EGG TO REVEAL AND NOT MANY PEOPLE NOTICE IT!😍😍😍 Thank you, as always, for the amazing reactions! I love them so much! 🥰🥰🥰 I might add more if I remember anything else.
