Mo Dao Zu Shi: Audio Drama, Manhua, & Novel Review - Part Twenty-Six! THE SCANDAL OF THE CENTURY!!

We're only doing Season 3 Episode 9 of the audio drama, which covers Chapters 82 - 86, but OH, are there MANY a revelation in this set of chapters! The truth is coming out about Yao and WuXian sees firsthand just how easily the hearts of men are swayed!

Oh, and there's WangXian cuddling, adorable Ning and Sizhui antics featuring the Juniors, angsty Ling and doting Cheng, and we get the extra "Keeping Rabbits," that has too much fluff nearly for a fangirl to handle! Not a bad set of chapters to react to at all!

Thank you for listening with me and for all the support!

I just live for Ning’s antics in all of this! 😊 He’s such a cinnamon bun and is smart enough to know how to handle the “third wheel” status! I love how he interacts with Sizhui, too! And he’s perceptive enough to know that telling him his backstory, especially being a Wen, isn’t the most ideal to do right now. But still! His interactions with him; it’s so precious!! And the conversation about everyone only being human…it just hits so well, emotionally, in these chapters! I think it ties perfectly to how Wangji feels about WuXian, especially comparing the past to the present. And yeah…knowing he was alone in the Burial Mounds for three months with only ghosts and corpses around him…no wonder he kept them around for company later on. That REALLY does hurt a lot. T_T The fact that Qin Su was likely pregnant before they married makes a lot of sense, especially knowing – like you said – how Yao knows the woes and trouble illegitimacy can bring a child. And then the shocking truth of it all on top of that…it’s just crushing for his character, because he’s able to love someone who seemingly loves him back…and then it’s doomed to fail, it seems, thanks to Daddy Jin. And once you see just how quickly the mob mentality can sway from liking to loathing someone…it’s easy to see maybe why Yao was so insistent to hide the truth…and WuXian is seeing that first hand, now. @_@ But yesssss, The Golden Core Reveal! I’m so excited to be at this part! And the WangXian date night! :D Wangji and his rabbits are too friggin’ cute! I need Yuan in that pile of soft bunnies! :P Yeah, I’m going by the Suibian Subs guide for the extras so I’m not sure why some extras are with others the way they are – it’s fine, though. I’ll trust them on it and I’m sure everyone will comment if I miss something! 😊 There’s a LOT of extras saved for the end, so that’s good! :D Thanks so much for the comment and kind words!!

The Lan Sizhui/Wen Ning bit is just adorable. But then the pain of Jin Ling hits. Like you I don't blame him at all for getting mad and upset. The other Juniors turning on him and not giving him a chance to speak up on what *is* wrong reminds me so much of their parents and the mob mentality of the Cultivation World. Wen Ning - the eternal third wheel - having more sense than the Juniors will never not be hilarious. Lan Wangji saying "We're all human" leaves me so soft. All the Juniors have this larger-than-life view of these great heroes (and later villain in regards to Wei Wuxian). Most of the Juniors know them for having been regaled about the tales of the fantastic deeds committed during the war, which would leave them with a skewed view on not just Wei Wuxian but also Lan Wangji and others. The gossips and rumours turned Wei Wuxian into a demonic presence, with mutters of the feared Yiling Laozu. Similar gossips and rumours turned Lan Wangji into a symbol of everything that is just and good about the world, with cries of the wonderful Hanguang-jun. But at the end of the day both are human and have many facets to their being. I love that Wen Ning doesn't make assumptions, but I also always took not immediately telling Lan Sizhui he's Wen Yuan because even with everything the other Clans still can't look upon anyone with the surname Wen as anything good. To the Cultivation World the surname Wen is still synonymous with evil. Wei Wuxian holding things for comfort is so sweet but also hurts. Not just for like what you said when he was the Yiling Laozu and having the ghost ladies around for company, but also the time he was on the streets as a child before Jiang Fengmian found him, and then his first time in the Burial Mounds. The latter may have been why he felt so comfortable afterwards in the presence of his ghosts, because ghosts and corpses were his only company those three months he spent in the Burial Mounds. It's really awful the low opinion of the Cultivators for prostitutes, yet being so willing to believe what Sisi says because it gives them more reason to look down on Jin Guangyao. I had to laugh at your reaction to Lan Qiren knowing Bicao until it came out she's Madam Qin's maid. I always saw the reasoning for Jin Guangyao going through with the marriage to Qin Su was because by the time her mother told him they'd already slept together and Qin Su was pregnant. Considering all his mother went through and he himself faced due to illegitimacy, he didn't want either Qin Su nor his own child facing such a fate. Also by that point to call off the marriage would have meant Qin Su AND Jin Guangyao would lose face, to the point that rumours would arise about something being wrong with one or both of them and possibly result in neither ever being able to marry someone else in the future. Yes there is also the likelihood that he continued with it for the political advantage it would give him, but I do think he was thinking of Qin Su and his unborn child too. I know it was an extremely difficult and upsetting thing for her mother to speak of, and she was extremely brave to have gone to Jin Guangyao and tell him the truth, but I honestly do feel that if she'd went to him when they first started courting Jin Guangyao would have done the right thing (and of course still killed Jin Guangshan). The way that everyone then adds their own rumours and gossips to lead them into deciding upon attacking Jinlintai is a perfect mirror to when the Clans gathered together and chose to lay siege to the Burial Mounds the first time (resulting in the Wens and Wei Wuxian's deaths). And the way the Sect Leaders waive the need to get to the truth is just like what Wen Qing told Wei Wuxian in her goodbye. At Qiongqi Path they were uncaring about any proof to show Wei Wuxian was guilty of cursing Jin Zixun. The truth of that matter didn't mean anything to the Sects, just as now the truth of why only now is the truth surrounding Jin Guangyao being revealed holds no meaning for the Sects. Golden Core Reveal!!! Can't wait for *that* pain(!) But also some other things that'll be happening next episode will be sooooo good. "Tour of Lotus Pier" i.e. WangXian date night 🤣 Squealing over Lan Wangji taking his two rabbits away. Much too adorable. As to the extras for next week, Into the Dream Part 1 (I believe) is from the extra chapters. I'm listening to the audio drama alongside you so can't say for sure, but it might fit better to leave listening to it until later alongside Parts 2 and 3. Someone whose already listened to the audio drama should be able to say if that fits better or not.

Oh thank you so much for the kind words -- I honestly have LOVED listening to the audio drama before reading; it's been so much fun! And ahhhh, we're finally getting to the original parts of the story that the other adaptations have "altered," and so I'm SO eager to see how things are in the source material! It's going to be fun!! :)

I just want to say thank you for reacting to the audio drama/novel/manhua! It's quickly become one of the things I look forward to the most each week. I especially look forward to hearing your thoughts and discussions on the audio drama/novel on the next sections in particular over the next few weeks! ^-^

Everyone believed Wuxian to be a monster, yet he saved everyone with his cultivation that everyone deems a curse😔😔

Thank you so much for such a fascinating discussion of the audio drama and the book chapters! Your point about Qiren and Cheng analogy makes so much sense! I've never thought about it but totally convinced. MXTX just adds another parallel among the characters, because why not? Wangji's line "We're all humans" speak so much about Wuxian's character and people's misconception of Wuxian. Wuxian used to think he's strong and could achieve everything single-handedly against Cheng's warning. But things turned out to be not the case. And for all these years people have developed a demonic image of Wuxian as the evil Yiling Patriarch, but no one has thought about Wuxian's vulnerability except for Wangji. This also kind of ties to Wuxian's desire to cling to something while asleep. For me it also shows Wuxian lacks a sense of security. This is such an amazing discussion and I can't wait for the next set of chapters about the golden core reveal :)
