This series gets better and better -- the drama, angst, wholesome heart -- all of it gets dialed up and FINALLY! THE DRAGON'S OUT OF THE BAG! Our boy Zeno is immortal.
I LOVED the "dragon chat" in this volume - the lore reveals, the crumbles of pain and angst - and then we sprinkle that with some Hak/Yona goodness, Soo-won's ambitions, thematic tie-ins, AND a tragic backstory extra chapter?? **fans self** Hoo...y'all....and next volume are two more OVA's. I love this series.

Oohh, that's such a good idea! I'll definitely have to do that as we get closer to being caught up! At this point, Kusanagi has done such a good job building up the mystery of the sword and shield -- I'm sure I'll have everyone a suspect of this prophecy by the end of the series until we find out, hahaha! And yessssss, all of our dragon boys have such heartbreaking backstories...these powerful beings with the power of literal deities...and they're all so tragic. :'( Thanks for the kind words and comment! 2022-06-09 01:58:14 +0000 UTCWhen I first catched up with the manga I looked at the first few chapters and it's just amazing how much better Kusanagi-sensei has become and how her style changed. Definitely recommend doing that wenn you catched up. Just the Dragons alone and talking is always getting so interesting. I love that these beings that have the blood of Dragon gods are the ones who are pretty aware about mortality. Soo-won being the sword and Zeno the shield is an interesting theorie for sure. Also curious that Zeno recognized him. It's always the special chapters that make me bawl my eyes out. It's the same with Ao. How is Garou supposed to show, a person he cares about, love when he never received love? Just thinking about him watching Jae-ha jump/fly away makes me tear up. And all of his expression broke my heart. Every dragon that we got even if it was just one from one chapter makes me sad. They somehow all have such sad stories. Wish you a wonderful day!!

But YESSS, “this story is like wine” – it just bets Better and BETTER! Oohhh, I may have to re-watch Episode 24 after Volume 18 and come back and talk about it for Volume 19, then! Thank you for that recommendation with it and chapter 100! :) Yessss, the “Shield” bit with Zeno was there from the start but I love how the series clearly tells you Zeno is OLD but doesn’t quite beat you over the head with the hints – it’s there if you want to take it, but not necessary to enjoy the story and still be surprised with the reveal. I WONDERED why he didn’t have the shield after seeing it in the OP – that’s a great point to bring up! Mangaka toying for sure! It’s really sad to think that he’s probably met lots of white, green, and blue dragons, so that’s why he avoids their names. :( I loved that dragon discussion! And yes, is it their blood bringing them together, or their own feelings – the TRUE question of the story! :) And then Yun feeling sad at the idea of them dying…heartbreaking! That’s a good note about Soo-Won thinking, “Okay, one fire out (literally), now onto the next” instead of being disingenuous – I like that better! :) And yes, poor Hak – thank goodness he has his friends, but yeah, Hak’s not handling his breakup with Soo-Won the best, poor guy. I love how Yona gets him fired up, though! :) Seriously, Hak is AMAZING and he’s going to be the one to beat in the Husbando poll as far as I’m concerned! Thank you so much for the comment! Hmmm….at least I want to watch Chapter 100 before, though! If anyone has the copy and checks, I can see to be sure! Ahhh, that’s such a good question! I am hoping that the passing of the dragons is “paused for now!” I’m not ready for the possibility of losing one of our dragons, but Kusanagi definitely puts that out there for us! @_@ Amping the stakes, possibly, and our stress levels! But Yun finding out is SO sad! I definitely think it’s going to strengthen their bonds and it makes for such a sad moment – It’s probably a good thing that Yona doesn’t know because then the angst would be too much! T-T Oohhh, that’s a REALLY good theory! I had forgotten that Hak was adopted…so hmmm….maybe this is something that could be in the future, too! It would be a neat plot twist that would tie to Yona not wanting to fight Kai or see Kohka suffer! Hmmm….but yeah, the resemblance between Kalgan and Hak is SO fascinating! The Jae-ha bonus chapter is SO. SAD. The expressions Kusanagi gives Garou are just heartbreaking! And YES! The parallels with the cover and that bonus chapter – and seeing Jae-ha’s knowing expression as he leaves Garou behind, realizing what he was doing for him? YUP, I’m not sad. Not one bit. T—T And Zenoooooo, I can’t imagine the hype when Chapter 99 dropped! And ooohhh, I can only imagine the squealing with the confirmation! It’s one thing to suspect something or theorize, but another to get it confirmed!! I’m glad that you advised me to wait for the stage play because of that spoiler! It would have stunk to have it spoiled then, when it was soooo good here in the manga! And AH, I haven’t gotten to chapter 100 and volume 18 yet, but I am SO HYPED!! It’s a downright SHAME that we don’t get a season 2 or 3, when there’s clearly enough content for it! :( I guess we’ll have to wait…but hopefully one day we do! :)

2022-05-14 00:06:54 +0000 UTCBefore you get to the OVAs next volume, I think it’s better to read Chapter 100 and maybe the beginning of 101. The OVAs start mid-chapter 101—I’m not sure what page that would start for you since I have the physical copy instead of the online copy (in the physical copy it would start at about page 54 if I’m counting it correctly), so if anything, you can save chapter 101 for after the OVAs. But chapter 100 for sure should be read before getting to the OVAs. I looooooooooved the discussion of the passing of the dragons. It brings a lingering sense of unease, which heighten the stakes. Because it brings up a lot of questions: is this going to be a problem in a future chapter? Since they’ve found their “master”, is the rebirth of new dragons paused and will it not be an issue for the time being until they finish Yona’s quest? Only Kusanagi can tell… And Yoon finding out about it? Gah, my heartttttt. I feel, in a way, this sort of strengthens their bonds? Having Yoon find out about it, I think it helps show the dragons that they aren’t just in the group for their dragon features but because they’ve all grown to care for each other as individuals too. Because Yoon isn’t crying about the possibility of losing their powers, he’s crying about them dying once a new dragon is born—it’s just such a touching moment. I’m not crying, you’re crying 🥺🥺🥺 I have a theory ever since I saw Kalgan that Hak may have been either born in Kalgan’s village or from the Kai empire. Because Hak is an orphan adopted by Mun-dok, so I wonder if this is a set up for a future chapter. Maybe Hak is a long lost prince from the Kai empire 👀👀👀 idk, I’m not really for that plot twist BUT we know so little about Hak’s origins so I wouldn’t put it past Kusunagi to have something planned for him. Or maybe it’s just same face syndrome and Kalgan just so happened to look like Hak indirectly XD The Jae-Ha bonus chapter hurt so much. I was reading along with you with my own copy and omg, I was sobbing throughout. It’s been so long since I reread it, I forgot how much it hurt. I can’t fault Garou for the way he treated Jae-ha, and I don’t think Jae-ha blames him either. Of course, it’s not right to raise a hand to a child no matter how angry you are, but Garou was just filled with so much hopelessness from his own horrible treatment that he must not have known any other way to behave toward Jae-ha. When Jae-ha offered to take Garou with him, to fly away together, the tears just couldn’t stop 😭😭😭 I also like how the Jae-ha on the cover parallels his past self in the bonus chapter. The detailing so good 😤👌👌👌 Last but not least, Zeno. Yes, you don’t understand how hyped I was when the reveal happened. I remember being in high school and this chapter dropped in Japan and the spoilers blew up my Tumblr page XDDD (omg, am I showing my age lol) I would have screamed if I hadn’t been in the middle of my Geometry class. Yona fans were suspicious of Zeno being immortal/older than he looked (I mean, let’s be real, Zeno wasn’t really hiding it), so having the confirmation was just 🤯🤯🤯 I guess now that you know, I’ll mention that short spoiler I was referring to for the stage play was about Zeno. Like I said it was such a small part where they’re doing like an intro of all the characters, and they basically do a little stabby stab action to show that he’s immortal. Its literally like five-ten seconds, but I think the reveal in the manga is so delicious I wanted you to experience it through the read-through first. And oh boy, when you get to chapter 100 🫢🫢🫢🫢 But ahhhh now you know, and the OVAs will be next week. I agree, I really wish they made a second season. There’s enough content for it, and if it followed the same 24-episode structure, at most they could fit in Tae-Jun/Fire Tribe and the Nadai arcs easily. And currently, there’s a lot more arcs for even a third season but I doubt we would be that lucky. Here’s to keeping our fingers crossed for more anime-Yona content in the future. We’ve been waiting patiently and will continue to wait as long as it takes!!!

I think it is very important to the emotional weight of the OVAs. While I understand that it'd most likely be easier for you, I think it's better on an experience level to go with the recommendation or at least read chapter 100 beforehand.

You hit the nail on the head, some people didn't even pick up on the hints throughout the manga but i'm not surprised you got it right so early on. Zeno is my favorite dragon, he's so soft and sweet and silly and, of course, immortal. The next volume is my favorite one, as a Zeno lover it was more than great so I can't wait to see your reactions next week!

Now, THIS volume was amazing, Of course the main reveal of Zeno ´s immortality was mind blowing , at least for me, I never saw it coming like this . You were brilliant in your guess two volumes ago!! When you talk about him being immortal, I was OMG Romania, what the hell!! You re psychic now!!! 😂😂 but there were so much more things going on too. This story is like wine, the more time passes, the more it becomes better and better About your question in the end of the video, I absolutely advise you to read chapter 100 before watching the OVAs because it is so important for the impact you are going to have from the OVAs. You can still enjoy the OVAs if you dive in them directly but it will be 100x more profound if you read chapter 100 before 😁 Also I suggest that you rewatch ep 24 after you finish the OVAs , you will see many things in a different new light I am sure. Zeno, God I love him. Remember whenever he called Yona it’s YOUNG lady, also using the expression young men for the other guys !!! That silly facade of him is so endearing but the lad had LITTERALLY an old soul. And the fact that he was the Shield was thrown at us from the very first episode, because in the end of the OP he is carrying a shield. I believe there is even a sequence in those war flash forwards when he actually shielded Yona!! WHAT!! Mangaka is toying with us😉 I m not developing much, I am waiting until we can discuss him more freely once his backstory is unfolded in later volumes, but you are absolutely right that he called the others by their dragon names, which is odd because he must have seen many dragons through the years . Those dragon discussions are amazing too, the bond, interaction and concern they have for or with one another are heartwarming.. the thing is there is always this question of, is it the blood doing or their own feelings??!! 🤔🤔 And I love how the mangaka made Zeno appear through that discussion while they are talking about dragons dying !! Haha!! You are funny Misuhu , throwing hints like that !! And Yun crying over the idea of them dying?? UGHH!! My heart!! I just wanna talk about Su Won face when he turns of KyoGa , for me that interaction represented resolution of the problem of the Fire Tribe Loyalty, and the face Su Won made was more of , that settled, I need to get to the next issue than non genuine compliments for Kang Kiya Ga. Hak is so conflicted, fortunately he has Yona and the happy hungry bunch to take his mind out of it, but those raw emotions that came out of him whenever Su Won is concerned are heart breaking.. #difficultbreakups And of course he is amazing, and of course he was pumped up after kissing( kinda) Yona!! I live for the interactions between those two 🥰🥰 Hak winning popularity poll, I mean , were there any other choices !! And I am sure he wins all the popularity / husbando polls he is in because how not ** wiggling my eyebrows and winking ** 😂😂 I absolutely can’t wait for the exquisite volume 18 reaction
