Heaven Official's Blessing//TGCF: Episode 5 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Oh, so....this episode was...A LOT! A lot of exposition, a LOT of fun, and a LOT of MYSTERY as ol' "Smirk, Jr." carts himself onto the scene! Xie Lian, you just have all the hotties following you!
I had to bring Whiteboard-kun out for this one, as we have the Four Calamities introduced, who seem like they will be a TRIP, and the lines between deities and ghosts, good and evil, and right and wrong are blurring ever so slightly...and in the background of it all, there's a mystery with a bandaged boy, butterfly king, and this mysterious young lad who just so happens to look a LOT like Mr. Smirk and know an awful LOT about gods and ghosts and seems an AWFUL LOT INTERESTED in our scrap-collecting deity.
Time to dive in head first, right?! Nooooooot sure I can wait a week to watch the next one.

Hahaha, thank you SO MUCH for not spoiling! Y'all have the patience of saints to not spoil me, I'm sure! I feel this will not be the last time I haul out Whiteboard-kun! But yes, the animation and pacing was insane, especially for everything we got going on exposition-wise! Ooohhh, that's interesting that the "thank you" is donghua-only -- that'll be neat to contextualize later on. And Mr. Smirk aka Hua Cheng is so badass already with what we knwo about him! Hahaha, Xie Lian's "Oh no, he's hot!" mentality is so perfect! :) He's whipped already! And bwhahahahaha, all those questions about Smirk, Jr.! 2022-06-02 19:16:23 +0000 UTCThere’s so much I want to talk about in this episode, and yet I feel like I’ll accidentally spoil if I do. Also, bringing out White Board-kun for your analysis? VALID. Especially for this episode, it was a whirlwind of exposition. But as I mentioned before, I loooooove this episode. Yes, it was exposition central, but the VISUALS WERE SO GOOD. AND THE ENDING???? Chefs kisses all around. I just really think the whole set up of this episode was REALLY well done, despite nothing really happening. My favorite part is that little scene where Xie Lian is thanking Feng Xin & Mu Qing for sending the deputy gods. If I’m remembering correctly, this was a donghua-only scene and, even though it was like three seconds, I am absolutely IN LOVE WITH IT. It’s a subtle scene that speaks VOLUMES once you get context. I won’t say anything else bc that’s spoiler territory, but you’ll understand my feelings when you finally get into the novel. Mr. Smirk is…definitely a character. And now, you know his name! Hua Cheng, aka Crimson Rain Sought Flower. Which is so BADASS. Quite fitting, and Xie Lian even agrees. I cackled out loud when you pointed out how Xie Lian just completely stops listening to all the gods warning him about how dangerous Hua Cheng is. Heavenly officials: “don’t trust him he's evil 😡” Xie Lian: “ok but he’s kinda cute tho???? 😳” He barely saw his face, but Xie Lian’s already down bad 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can’t wait until the next reaction. Next episode is also one of my favorites. Smirk Jr. sure is mysterious but he’s a total bean. Is he Mr. Smirk? Is he just a random human? Is he even going to be relevant to the story? Well, you’ll just have to find out in the next episode 😏😏😏😏

I don't really have much to add but I do want to say that its interesting how you've connected some elements of the Yi city arc to TGCF because, as someone who read TGCF first and then went into MDZS, I was really amazed by how much the Yi city arc resembles TGCF in some ways! This is 100% speculation on my part but I really do think that MXTX re-uses or pulls inspiration from the Yi city arc setting, concepts and characters to be used in TGCF. Just like you, I also thought Qi Rong resembles Xue Yang when I was first introduced to him. There is also the similarity between Xie Lian and Xiao XingChen's appearance; both being white-robed cultivators with bandages and they even have the same hairstyle in the donghuas, and also the fact that Bai WuXiang is dressed up in that funerary grab with the lantern(?) with many faces. As you said, it's very Yi city! There are also more connections to Yi city that can be made with the upcoming characters and episodes but I'll leave you to see them for yourself! Also the connection you made between Xie Lian & Bai WuXiang, and Wudu (the water master) & the Black Ghost... Hmm... That's all I can say on that matter lol I cannot wait to see your reaction to the next episode!
