DEATH NOTE: Episode 8 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**OH, THE HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Holy smokes, I don't know what I loved more:

*  The bizarre detective antics of L/Ryuzaki
* The bizarre withdrawal symptoms of Ryuk
* The utter tension of the cat and mouse between Light and L

or

the MOST DRAMATIC CHIP EATING OF ALL TIME.

Maybe all of it. This episode was amazing and there's so much to talk about.
Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

DEATH NOTE: Episode 8 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yesssss, I'm glad to you got this comment to post! Honestly, I looked at your comment in the email and will be talking about it in the next episode, hahaha!! But I love all the details you talk about in this! It's SUCH an iconic scene and I love that contrast of L liking sweets and Light liking salty foods -- the differences and similarities with our rivals! I love it!! :) And I love that fact that Ryuk is possibly being controlled by the apple comment between L and Light. :) Thank you so much for getting the comment posted! :D

// and again, my comment was deleted, but trying again if it could stay here. D: dear lord, I'm so happy I keep writing these on docs. // U TAKE THE POTATO CHIP AND I EAT IT!!! That scene was like, so many times tamer in the manga, it was literally just one small corner on the page LOL. Yet it’s like one of the most iconic things in this show. I wonder if the anime added the ice cream to like, symbolize how they’re both eating something. L sweets (ice cream) and Light salty (chips) Because the manga didn’t have ice cream in this scene. Especially since we already established that L likes sweet things (the sugar cubes…) so it would now be that weird to give them something sweet. Even though ice cream indoors is kinda random, then again L is kinda random too. More on the light’s relationships. With him and his dad especially. (I have many files of me ranting about this, bc unfortunately the fanfics really bash love to his dad) I think that Light's (past) ambition to become a police/detective was because his dad was one. And I think that was a lot like “I wanna be like dad” since, with Lights grades, he could become anything between doctor and president. And I think that even light’s “justice” wasn't a big part of why he wishes to be a police officer, after all, he could do probably WAY MORE about who actually goes into the jail and who does not if he was a lawyer or smt rather than a mere police officer whose job ends once the criminal is caught. I think that the fact that Light gave L the hint about shinigami loving apples, kinda gives him slight control over Ryuk. Just slightly! Because this gives Light the upper hand of, “well You can't eat apples in case L releases…” and that way there’s the loophole to Ryuk’s “neutrality”. Bc normally he would be like, “looking for cameras… NO“ and he wouldn’t be taking sides by doing that. BUT now he’s looking for the cameras FOR apples, and not for light. Because if he refused to look for cameras and decided to stay away from apples THEN he would be taking L’s side, technically. If it makes any sense idk how to explain it.

The truck

Oh no, you're so good! I took it that Light is trying to put on that image of being the "average teenage boy" hiding "dirty" magazines and looking at them in his room -- to justify maybe why he's been trying to make sure no one sneaks into his room -- it's definitely an interesting scene and with how AWKWARD Light handles the magazine, the content, and his conversation to the camera about it -- it definitely paints a new layer on Light and his sexuality, how he's NOT like a typical 17-year-old boy, no matter how he tries to portray that persona -- and I find that fascinating, too! No worries about he long comment; you've seen how long-winded I get in these episodes! :) Thanks for the comment!

About the magazine scene, people don’t talk about that a lot but I think it is an interesting scene. Bc it is the thing that made L suspect Light for the first time (due his own observation and not bc Raye or Naomi). At first I didn’t understand why L wasn’t suspicious of Light bc of the paper in the door but he had this weird reaction to light looking at this magazine (as I thought the first one was more suspicious as a lot of teenagers do look at magazines or what not). If you see this whole thing from L’s perspective: Normally one would go these measures to hide something is because they enjoy it or it gives them pleasure. But if you notice the whole time Light was looking at the Magazine he didn’t show any kind of reaction. It looked more like reading a uninteresting school textbook that you have to read it as a homework and flipping through it so you could be finally done with it, instead of looking at a magazine that you gives some kind of pleasure. Even though he said that the cover was misleading, I mean he should have at least looked at it with a bit disappointment while he was looking at it but he didn’t looked disappointed either. The comment just made it look that he was trying to convince himself/ someone else (if he knew there was cameras) that he actually like looking at the magazines. And also the magazine does have half naked(?) women just like the cover did, so I don’t know how could that be misleading. It delivered what the cover said it will deliver. So it leads to the question, why he was buying the magazine and then taking so much measures to hide them if he wasn’t interested in them or if they didn’t give him some kind of pleasure. So there are two reason why someone would be and one of them is that just like while hiding the death note in the desk he puts one fake diary so people would be just happy with that and wouldn’t look further, the people would be content with the magazines as the reason and wouldn’t look further to why he put the paper in the door. So I think that’s why L became suspicious of Light. Edit: I didn’t want to mention the 2nd reason, bc I thought it wasn’t so relevant and unlike the 1st one, this is just a theories, but I thought maybe it would come afterwards in handy and I also remembered that in that bus jacking episode he also wasn’t attracted nor cared about the girl he went on the date with but just saw her as a way to execute his plan. So the second reason/theory is that he is also be someone who is not attracted to someone’s look but rather to their characteristics, like for example someone who is thrilling or challenging or interesting, as he mentions in the first episode he doesn’t like to be bored, so he might not be interested in people who he thinks or judges not to be boring and will not get attracted to someone just bc they look beautiful or sexy. I am so sorry that this is so long. It started as analysis of the magazine and ended up being analysis of Light’s character and preferences. So I’m gonna stop before I go into this gets too deep.
