Vinland Saga: Episode 7 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**PIRATING HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Man, Askeladd is out here having the time of his life as a mercenary/pirate....meanwhile, Thorfinn (Now 16 YEARS OLD), is living his most angst-apathy-filled life keeping to his mission to extract revenge for his father's death, while following close to Askeladd and the Viking's side...

...meanwhile, a temporary "break" is being established, Floki is still alive and kicking, and after an insane tonal whiplash of a battle (both gruesome and hilarious), Thorfinn may finally - after 8 years - get the rematch he's been wanting...there's a lot going on in this episode, but I'm ready to talk about it!

Ooohhhh, I really like that! I hadn't considered Jabba the Hut, but now that you mention it, I could see it! :) Thanks for that info!

You can see Mangaka pays tribute to Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars in the creation of the General, but I like your mention of Ghibuli, too.

I didn't take it that way! I figured (having watched Episode 8 now) that we're going to see Thorfinn get older as we go...the question of course is if we'll see him stay a teen for this season and how older he'll get as the manga goes, but THAT question I don't want answered, hahaha, if that makes sense. You're good! :)

I hope thats not too spoilery. About how manga started vs how anime is doing.

It's definitely a tone shift compared to the last 6 episodes, but honestly? After the heaviness of the last 6 episodes, I was WELCOMING the light-hearted antics of Askeladd and the Vikings in this -- well, as light-hearted and darkly humorous as it could be, right?! That's interesting that it transitioned to a Seinen -- with Thorfinn getting older, that makes a LOT of sense! I could see why it would transition (for that and other reasons). But yeah, I actually loved this episode and Askeladd's personality really makes you gravitate towards him as a character. Even when he's awful, there's a charisma around him that you just want to watch more of him. :) Thanks so much for the comment!

So the episode def has the most light hearted tone and overall i would say its the most basic episode when it comes to subtext and ideas of the show. Also the toad like carricature of a general really makes it jarring, lol. And theres kinda the reason for it. Majority of the contents of this episode is how the manga actually started, the very first chapters. If I remember correctly , the manga started in weekly shounen magazine and after couple months transitions into monthly seinen magazine . I wanna say the author was trying to find his footing and testing the waters in where this story might go. And what kind of tone could work for vinland . With all that said , even in this ep Askelad as a character steals the spotlight imo. Even at this early in the series, manga wise I think author very clearly knew what kind of character Askelad should be. With all the bad shit he done ,we still like him as a character and want to follow his adventures. And I think partially becasue of his really high charisma . His screen presense just really sucks you in . Overall I think its one of the weakest episode so far in the show , its a very straight forward one with action focus and just more light hearted tone . Which is not entirely a bad thing, it just feels so different compared to the first 6 episodes we watched
