Vinland Saga: Episode 14 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**HEADHPONE WARNING ABOUND**

This...was an interesting episode. I feel it's a re-tread from Episode 6, where we see Thorfinn choosing to go along with the cruel world for the sake of pursuing their own agendas; only this time it's from Askeladd's perspective -- with the addition of this new character, Anne, who is QUITE fascinating.

An episode about vices, what we "love" and what that means, the paths we choose, their consequences, and our emotions tied to the potentially divine...some cryptic things that surely won't have any bearing in the future episodes of this season...right?

It’s such a unique episode! I wouldn’t say I didn’t “care for it” but it’s not my favorite of the series — it’s one I’m still wrapping my brain with and feel I will the rest of the season; with the dread and despair of the tone. I definitely agree that it’s one that shows us that Askeladd and his men are NOT to be considered “good people.” That explanation of Anne and the ring is REALLY good and I’ll definitely have to bring it up! It could be a nice Segway to seeing how Askeladd is seemingly “down on his luck” past this point — so maybe there’s more to it…I’ve already recorded Episode 15, but I’ll be bringing something up that’s related tot his conversation, so that’s exciting! Thanks for the comment! :)

This is my favorite episode in the entire first season, haha. Funny, because theres no big action sequence, no new character background reveals , it does not feel like theres some big plot progressing twist either. It feels super self contained . But i love it , because of how grim the tone and mood is , from the first moment it establishes the atsmosphere. The overall direction of the episode, use of silence , shot framing and more often than not just images that speak for themselves .I am a very big fan when media, especially anime has very near uniform tonality and it plays with that and I thought this was one of the best examples of it . Not to mention , the show reminds us that we are not following nice people . No matter how charismatic and how big of a screen presense he has. He just ordered to slaughter the entire village for his own gain . And I love it. This episode tries to be make the viewer uncofortable with the violence on screen . And I think very few anime even try that . And the ending . When Anne says shes elated at witnessing all these horrible , traumatic things. It surprised me at first . But I think its interesting how the show makes the character question its morals, ideals and teachings as a human being . By witnessing even worse stuff, your sins dont seem as bad. Even more so it makes you think how these people can get away without Gods punishment, without any regard to human life . I interpeted as in the show questions the nature of human beings and that theres something alluring and exciting to the idea of taboo. Which coincidentally could relate to Adam and Eve story. From what i have seen and talked about it about this episode in particular. Either people dont really care for it much because it really does not add anything new to what we know . Or other people love it because of episode direction, tonality, use of silence and imagery
