Heaven Official's Blessing//TGCF: Novel & Manhua Review - PART 21 - Chapters 74-76 Reaction!

MXTX gives us a CONTENT warning in this one -- hoo boy. There's not a lot of  happiness in these chapters, but we DO get a LOT of interesting set up as Xianle falls deeper into despair over their water shortage --

-- and Xie Lian visits the Rain Master and acquires a hat! That's the most fun we get, as Lang Ying proves to be QUITE interesting, and the theories abound as we get further into the depths of Xie Lian's past...and where things may get their grimmest for his first ascension...

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Nothing looks good in this timeline right now, does it? It definitely feels like XL took inspiration from the Rain Master and I definitely want to talk about it next week! I suppose the Rain Master's "weapon" makes sense -- though, carrying around a super large ladel might have been...interesting! At least this is multi-purpose! *headcanon the Rain Master is equally fashionable as the Wind Master* :P I'm a little worried that this ONE scene earned a trigger warning; like you said, I'm sure there's more where that comes from...be a real shame if a Supreme Ghost decided to waltz in on all this chaos. #_# I assumed that the dead family couldn't afford or were allowed into the Yong-an temple, since Lang Ying makes it seem like that's not something that was well known outside the capital, but that could be, too. And yes, it's SO frustrating -- our cinnamon bun is TRYING to divide and conquer...but there's too much to divide and not enough power to conquer...he's just spread too thin and it's....really sad. T-T Thanks for the comment! I'm a little nervous where we go to from here!

I wasn't ready for HOW violent this series was going to get, that's for sure -- VERY traumatic! And our poor boy, he really is at his limits, isn't he? I think I can see why HO's like the Rain Master go into hiding, now...be a real shame for a Supreme Ghost to show up right now and take advantage of this terrible situation...**laughs nervously** Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! These aren't exactly "FEEL GOOD" chapters of the novel, but it's been fun analyzing them!! :)

Romania: a violence content warning? How could it be any more violent?? Romania: oh. oh dear. You're right, these are such harrowing chapters, especially the last one. The death of that child and family really just feels like a turning point, because Xie Lian has never felt worse, the kingdom is in chaos, and how could it get any worse???!?!? I feel for him, because while he's absolutely spreading himself too thin by dividing up his day like this, I think with his personality and morals he couldn't live with himself if he sat idly by doing nothing. How could the guy who said "I want to save the common people" just ignore the suffering? He's in such an impossible situation. Honestly, I'd love to live like the rain master, in my quiet little shack in the middle of some rice paddies. I agree with Xie Lian, jewels and extravagant palaces are overrated. Once again I'm enjoying going through these chapters again with you and finding things I missed in my first read through. Can't wait for next week (christmas present of some good ol fashioned analysis of TGCF with Romania!)

This week's chapter didn't end on a cliffhanger but we can all picture the downfall of Xian Le in the future...Can we bring back MQ and his cliffhangers which turned out to be nothing? Rain Master is presented but not quite presented as XL only gets to talk to their devotee the ox dude. I'm not going to tell you whether the ox is in fact rain master or not, but XL himself did use this theory: 800 years later he happily builds up his shrine in Puji village and declared himself the priest of himself to the villagers. And it's also interesting that while other heavenly officials have their fancy swords and fans as weapons, the rain master has a bamboo hat as their magic tool, which is not a bit offensive. But guess it fits their reputation as a hermit and since they control the rain, it'll be nice to always have a hat over your head. In most cases the eggs and veggies thrown to the criminals are rotten one I'd say, in order to humiliate them while not being overly destructive. But either way, the Xian Le capital people are having much more to enjoy than the suffering Yong An people and eventually this led to some bloodshed. You think this trigger warning is alerting enough? I'd say the gruesomeness of certain parts of this story requires all the warnings in capital. Not sure the dead family are the ones cast out of the capital when more and more Yong An people arrived, because there are temples of XL in Yong An. The thing is, as we've read before, over there the temples are for rich people only so XL didn't get any prayers about the drought there. So, they might be a middle-class family who had enough money to go to temples back then, but had to flee to the capital now because of the disaster. The dilemma for XL is that, while he's trying his best and dividing his time in three, this is just enough to keep the speed of the downfall from escalating but not enough to slow it down or even turning it to the better side. Just as QR cursed 800 years later in the Xian Le royal mausoleum, "you only end up saving nobody, a total failure"
