After literal YEARS of being requested this OVA set, I FINALLY tackle this insane, literal "balls-to-the-walls" anime and see what all the fuss is about and HOO BOY, it's a TRIP! If you're not one for spice and in-your-face sexy-times content, you may want to sit this one out, but the manga, surprisingly turns out to be an interesting read as I talk about the characters without getting TOO spoilery!
Honestly, I wish the manga were longer, because I really started getting into the story and characters...and then it was over! Maybe we'll get more of these wild boys in the future!
NOTE: I was 169% healthy for the OVA reaction, but for the manga review, I was a bit under the weather. I still enjoyed talking about the manga, but it didn't feel as in-depth as I would like. Once Volume 5 comes out with an official English translation, I'll probably do a follow-up video about it and hopefully be healthy enough to get ALL my thoughts out! But I'm excited to hear your thoughts!

It's SO fascinating because yessssss, the first volume or two of this series is like the OVA - so over the top and bonkers, but you keep reading and then realize these characters have a lot going on under the surface and it hooks you with how much story there actually IS in this and that a lot of the more "scandalous" elements actually may have a reason behind them? The manga making YURI of all characters one of my favorites is a testament to that! Oooh, and thank you for the recommendation! I am DEFINITELY putting Escape Journey on my "To Read" list! :D I really appreciate it and the comment! I'm glad to finally watch this "gem" and can't wait to get the final English volume this spring so I can "finish" this review, technically! :)

We were waiting for the reveal and you didn't disappoint, 🤣 Yeah, this one starts off as a parody of the worst yaoi but then the author (who has written/drawn some amazingly good BLs) can't seem to help herself and you discover that it has a really interesting story developing when you read the manga. I know you haven't read a lot of yaoi, so I'll just say - there are a ton of them that are just horny schoolboys seducing/raping each other (then it turns into love) or seducing/raping their teachers (and then it becomes love). If you look at the first volume of YBC, it's definitely parodying those types of stories, where they're fucking all over the school without anyone ever noticing. Here...everyone's in on it, so who cares? Fuck all over the place! It's all good! Let's stop pretending anything normal is happening in this school or that it's in any way realistic! But then, aside from all the wacky, kinky sex going on, these boys reveal depth and personality and issues, and damned if the mangaka didn't trick us into reading an actual story! There is one tame anime (I think it's based on a visual novel/game), Gakuen Heaven, and that is a harem yaoi of sorts, with a boy getting invited to some mysterious, elite private school for boys and then a whole jumble of possible boyfriends all try to win his affections. YBC really reminded me of that one in some ways, just...dialed up to 1000% crazy, lol. If you want to read her most acclaimed story, read Escape Journey sometime (it's not that long and it's complete).

Just to help be unable to get out of your head: yes Akemi is Nagisa's VA, Tamura's is Kagami from Kuroko no Basuke, Yacchan's is Hinata from Haikyuu!!, Toono is Senichi Sugawara from Tsurune, Jimi is Usami from Free!, Itsuki is Futakuchi from Haikyuu!! (or Haruki from Given), and Yuri is Albert from Yuukoku no Moriarty! "This is like Ouran High School Host Club" okay I *died* at that comparison. It really is, just much kinkier. Yuri really does look like Szalyelaporro. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks so. Also he's an Arrancar that certainly has a screw loose too so it works for not just character design. I would have the exact same reaction as Toono to Yacchan's mess of a room. The OVAs are definitely shock value to grasp people's attention and prod you towards reading the manga. Toono and Kashima I feel like both are firmly in the best boy category. Personally I'm all for Kashima/Toono end game and want Yacchan/Tamura end game.
