Fire Punch: Manga Volume 1 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**INCREDULOUS HEADPHONE WARNING**
CONTENT WARNING: Sexual, Violent, and Graphic Content

WELL...I was NOT prepared for how HARD Fujimoto throws his punches (fires and all) in this FIRST volume. It's as if he's trying to see how far he can push the envelope -- to the point I felt a content warning was warranted!

I am intrigued by these characters that seem simple on the surface but have a LOT bubbling underneath...I'm just worried at how DARK and DOUR this story is going to get. *nervous laugh*

Fire Punch: Manga Volume 1 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Honestly, I feel I read things in the right order -- Goodbye, Eri and Look Back REALLY set the stage for the type of narrative and thematic goodness Fujimoto is capable of and then CSM is that through a Shonen lens, which is Fun! THIS? THIS is Fujimoto just doing WHATEVER he wants and it's impressive how bold he is and gets away with so much -- but you have a sense that he KNOWS what to do under the surface...so it hooks you, darn it. See, I feel Fujimoto knows EXACTLY what he's doing and is in a perfectly fine state of mind. I totally agree with Anno, you can sense the depression and psychological stress in his works. Here, in that last chapter, I'm like, "Okay, Fujimoto. I see you. We're having fun, aren't we?" @_@ Of course...we'll see where that goes from here! Thanks so much for the kind words and comment!

If this is Fujimoto at his most RAW, I'm down for it, as crazy as this first volume was; the ride should be wild! Thank you for the comment!

I'm not afraid to admit that Fire Punch is my favorite Fujimoto... though maybe I should be. Unrestrained is totally the right word and absolutely why I adore it.

Your comment about Fujimoto having learned restraint since Fire Punch made me laugh. The reading order for Fujimoto's manga kinda makes a huge difference in how you approach his other works doesn't it? I'm actually really jealous that you read Goodbye, Eri and Look Back before going into CSM. I read CSM first and got fooled by how sort of typically shounen-y on the surface that first bit of the story is, whereas if I'd read either of those masterpiece one shots first, I would have paid more attention to what was being set up and just generally trusted that Fujimoto was going to do something interesting. I bring this up because I think if I had started with Fire Punch, I wouldn't have even made it past the first volume, and I also probably would've dismissed Fujimoto as a shock value grimdark guy and not bothered with any of his other work. I don't typically like to speculate or try and extrapolate things about the creator's state of mind when making something, unless it's like an Anno and NGE situation where the creator is very open about it, but man right from the start Fire Punch makes me wish I could pick up a phone and call past Fujimoto and just ask him if he's doing ok because sheesh man. Anyway, thanks for the reaction, excited to see more.
