This was the wholesome and flirty goodness I NEEDED, as Xie Lian may after 800 years be experiencing an "awakening" of his own!
NOTE: Discord has clarified when the "dream" ends right before these chapters, because I was really on the struggle bus with that this set (I blame it on Hua Cheng). No worries, I'll be back full force next week, WITH a Manhua chapter to read, too! Just in time for Valentine's Day!

I really didn’t think it was possible for someone to be even MORE oblivious of his attraction than WWX, but then MXTX said, “hold my human thigh,” and here we are. And HC telling him not to hold in his pain but to let HC know – aka, “COMMUNICATE, XL.” I Love it! I’m glad my Katy Perry references don’t go unnoticed; also, I’m sorry for the ear worm! Clearly, MXTX has watched enough horror movies, though, to know the formula! And she also knows the formula for Rom Coms as well! Oohhh, “Nightmare Before Christmas” is apt to describe the stalls! That’s a great comparison. HC really is setting the STANDARD for partners, isn’t he? Seriously, though, the calligraphy scene just OOZES sensuality and it’s JUST Xie Lian’s style, isn’t it? *sigh* It’s so weird how some people are just…in denial about human sexuality and attraction. *shakes head* But yessss, I love the two illustrations for this set of chapters! The fact that a beautiful kiss is juxtaposed with a boar man waving a human thigh around is…something only MXTX can pull off! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

Xie Lian with romantic feelings is lower than a teenager's level of understanding. Romania: "I kissed a Supreme Ghost. I kinda liked it." Me: *I Kissed A Girl by Katy Perry starts playing*...I hate my brain sometimes "Cry out if it hurts" Yup I've heard and read those lines under much different situations in a multitude of BL 🤣 But seriously, Xie Lian not being able to push down his pain when with Hua Cheng - when we've previously established he was able to do so in front of his own mother - it's just too wonderful 🥺 Romania: Why would you open it?? Me: I'm with you there. Guess we'd possibly survive a horror film by not letting curiosity get the best of us. Hua Cheng wants to have date night at home with a fancy meal, potentially suitable for the Crown Prince of Xianle. But Xie Lian is more happy with a wandering stroll and some street food...if they can find any. But all those stalls are truly like a fever dream. But a lot of the food choices makes me think of Halloweentown from A Nightmare Before Christmas. Horror foetus spirit aside and the grotesque food, this whole thing reads like such a Rom-Com. Get you a man like Hua Cheng who builds you a temple and gives you three thousand lanterns to 'relive the boredom of attending a feast in the Heavenly Realm'. But I love Xie Lian taking a moment and actually giving Hua Cheng such compliments for the temple. So much more meaningful than giving his thanks. Hua Cheng being embarrassed about his rather wild calligraphy style 🥺 But that poem...'undying devotion' Hua Cheng, huh? I wonder who that could be referring to 🤭 And then he just has to hit us with being a smooth son of a b*tch in getting Xie Lian to teach him. All the applause for this Ghost King. I swear only Mo Xiang Tong Xiu could make a scene of teaching/learning calligraphy have such sensual and romantic undertones! I had to bite my quilt I was laughing so hard at the ending of this set. But yes we've got a slow burn with HuaLian that we're finally getting the embers coming to life with these chapters. Also apparently not just gay men kissing is the end of the world. Now they've decided that overly effeminate men is the reason for the issue with marriage and birth rates 🙄 I mean my country is still very much in the belief of how women and men should behave but effeminate men is certainly not stopping the more burly/butch kinds of men from being who they are. And it's not the reason for what our birth rate is either. The illustration of their kiss is just so good. Love it! Hard to believe how adorable a boar-man waving around a dismembered thigh can be. But yes I do love that illustration.

The "expectation vs reality" of the kiss is HILARIOUS in the context you write it in, OMG! *laughs hysterically* Oohhh, thank you for letting me know about the "feet" and their cultural significance -- that makes XL's actions ALLLL the more interesting! Good to know! I also love that about the Ghost City residents offering the food to "their god" and him eating NONE of it and getting it to XL instead. Hm. How about that? ;) And seriously, HC's only weakness so far is his...handwriting is bad. HILARIOUS! I love that it ties directly into something that XL is really good at...because of course it does! And yes, we have SO MANY volumes left to get answers, but I'm very excited to see what is to come! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment!

The first kiss scene on the cover of the book: they are both floating and twirling in water, eyes locked on each other, you can almost hear that romantic music playing in the background... The first kiss scene in reality: XL has no idea what's going on and panicking "like a drowning duck", and HC maybe also freaks out a bit inside because his god nearly once again go down the path of self-harm Funny thing is in ancient China a woman's foot is also one of her private parts, only family members and husband are allowed to see the bare feet of a lady otherwise it's great shame. So HC handling XL's injured foot （and there's even a cursed shackle on it to add the sexual tension） had me giggling in bed. The ghost city residents are kind of treating HC has their own god, and all those human legs and grave fruits are their version of "best offerings in this world, only a god (and maybe the god's bff) is worthy" HC, the ultimate ghost king, who can defeat 33 heavenly officials in one go, control deadly butterflies, paint awesome paintings, build an entire door from one piece of wood, run the notorious ghost city, occasionally slaps others gods in the face, has terrible handwriting. just ROFL. If only the 33 losers know...... Romania at the end of the chapter: that little white flower, is XL about to find out?! Me, looking at the next 5 books: well, maybe or maybe not......either way they still have a long way to go.
