Vinland Saga Season 2: Episode 5 EARLY ACCESS Reaction!

 **BURNING HEADPHONE WARNING**

While Einar and Thorfinn emotionally sort out their circumstance, we cut away to see what Canute and Thorkell have been up to!  And it's...QUITE A LOT, actually! It was so good to see Thorkell, and I'm honestly glad that Canute (seemingly) didn't keep the bob haircut. It DOESN'T suit him! Definitely a LOT to talk about in this exposition-explosion of an episode!

NOTE: I'm going to sit out comments for a few weeks, because I've was spoiled coming into this episode. I'm happy to talk on Discord about the series though in the meantime, until I can work up some trust to come back to the comments.

I'm glad someone else that's anime only is watching with me! <3 I didddddd ask that people not share any info like theories or confirming/de-confirming mine...without a spoiler tag....but....I'll just keep asking folks to not, haha! I really AM curious how Canute is going to tie into Thorfinn and Einar -- I have those theories from the discussion, but it'll be cool to see how and if they'll intersect, or if they won't! I DEFINITELY want to see a passionate Thorfinn again and hope that his social growth gets aided by being around Einar, who is literally too good for words. And how will Canute continue to develop? What will he think of Thorfinn if he sees him again? SO many questions and I'm excited to see how the story takes it! Thank you for the comment!

hey, I'm an anime-only just like you so I'm also bound to get spoiled by comments too so I should tread lightly through here too I guess lol anyways, I just wanted to talk about how curious I am about where this story is going... like, how is thorfinn (and the bestie) going to get tangled into this whole mess with canute again??? like I really want them all to meet again and stuff, but will thorfinn get thrust into something he doesn't really want to or will he gain a new passion??? well, I certainly want to see a passionate version of adult thorfinn, but I also feel like his social and emotional growth were stunted in some ways because of what he has gone through, so I'm curious to see how he develops as a person.... as always, I enjoyed your reaction, but it sucks that you got spoiled!!! If things get that bad, maybe you should also ban theories from being commented without a spoiler tag?? just in case people try to be smart and stuff and leak spoilers in that way?? lol idk

I say I'm not answering comments, but here I am! :P I won't hold a "commitment" to it, though, but I can understand the impatience -- I personally love a slow burn, and watching season 1 week to week, it took its time to set it up as well -- maybe this season will feel better as a binge watch? I personally have LOVED the set up so far, because I can see the pieces moving under the surface and with this episode, I can see how things with Canute are being set up, where it could intersect with Olmar, Thorfinn and Einar, etc. I definitely agree it may not be for everyone, but for a person that loves character development, setup, and the build to the pay off, I'm loving it! Thanks for voicing your perspective, though, and for the comment! <3

I know you're not responding to comments now-- which is fine -- but I've been trying to sort out why I've been a little disappointed with this season so far. It's not the lack of action; there's actually been plenty for me. And I've really liked the Thorfinn and Einar character development. Snake seems like a cool new character and Olnar might be too. I guess my issue has been that I don't see a clear direction of where things might be headed. Last season all the main players seemed to have goals. Thorfinn to kill Askeladd, Askeladd to follow his mom's dream, Canute - well his goals may have changed over time, but he always seemed to have resolve toward something. This season (apart from maybe Canute and Thorkill in this episode) seems to be more about just surviving, which I get is an important theme, but it feels transitional and I'm a little impatient to see our main characters striving for something more. There's a lot I love about this, but I could use some foreshadowing of a somewhat hopeful future for Thorfinn, Einar, Canute or perhaps even Leif. Maybe its there already but too subtle for me to see.
