After many people requesting in all the polls and here on Patreon, I'm diving into this Chinese animation -- and HOLY COW. Just in this episode alone, I'm getting sucked in to the gorgeous art, the interesting characters, and the mystery of our story!
I'm left with more questions than answers, but it only has me stoked to watch more!

That's interesting that there were originally more cuts -- the curse concept makes sense; thank you for explaining that!! :D I'm really excited to see where this goes, especially with Wuxian's character -- I love his personality already, even if it's much an "act" to fit in to the role of the "lunatic" nephew this episode. The introduction of Wangji is intriguing as well... XD

Part of Summoning ("offering ritual") was a deal - the summoner would give up their body to the spirit they summoned. The summoned spirit had fulfill the wish of the summoner ("offerer") or they'll suffer from the curse never to be reborn. In this case Wei Wuxian had to kill the Mo Clan that tormented Mo Xuanyu in life. It just happens that the spirit summoning flags that Wei Wuxian created in his past life and now being used by the same Cultivators that hunted him down. wound up killing the Mo family. When these same flags summoned the demonic arm, which killed Mo Ziyuan, Madame Mo and A-Tong thus Wei Wuxian killed them indirectly. Once he had performed the request of the offer then Wei Wuxian is "free" to do what ever he wants to.
