Haru and Sosuke have been connected this entire season, from the OP to their friendship with Rin, and even to their insecurities with their own respective teams.
And now, both characters have a new common ground: An uncertain future.
Between Sosuke's shoulder and Haru's melancholy, this episode was filled with childhood rivalries, adolescent angst, shark tears, and yet still brought it all together with the nakama! Free! you keep feeding us well!!

This episode was SO GOOD! My heart is kind of leaning SouRin, so their dynamic in this was just wonderful. And ahhhh, Sosuke is SUCH A SIMP for Rin, it is not even funny -- I was so nervous when they all decided to swim together at the end. I get it's meant to be heartwarming, but knowing that Sosuke is literally ruining his chances to swim in the future on this one race. Dang, that's hard. Still, though, that moment with him and Rin at the end?! UGH. MUH HEART. He DEFINITELY has it bad for our angsty diva shark! ^^ And, well, I've watched next week's episode (working on editing now for next week), and uhm.......YEAH. I cannot BEGIN to tell you how excited I am for that episode! @.@

2021-02-24 15:51:10 +0000 UTCUgh, I love this episode. I love Sousuke and Rin's dynamic... the truth finally coming to light, very cathartically. The whole aspect of Sousuke watching Rin struggle last year, going and running to him, and then being unable to call out to him... *chef's kiss* It suddenly makes you realize that Sousuke has been doing this for Rin's sake the entire season. The whole year at Samezuka was just to swim/conveniently bunk with Rin again. We might be simpin' for Sousuke but that boy's got it BAD for our diva sharkboy. One minor nitpick with these subtitles, and I'm not sure where this comes from, but I /swear/ when I originally watched this, the line where Rin says "Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Sousuke responds with "Because I knew... that you would cry." And it hit me SO hard. Again, a minor verbiage thing, but I definitely noticed it. Also also the way Rin kicks Sousuke when they're standing next to each other after the race... it's so dang cute. ALSO I thought it was SO funny how the show was portraying the thing of Momo, Ai, and Sousuke being like "let me race" as this positive thing and the whole time you're watching it like "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I dunno about this one guys, Rin's right" LOL Excited for next week. It's definitely an intriguing ep. I don't think it's too spoiler-y to say but the episode AFTER next might be THE most unexpected/out-of-left-field episode ever.
