Free! Timeless Medley: The Bond & The Promise Reaction!

From Rin's family (OMG) to integrating our characters from Starting Days into the story, there's so much good stuff in both of these films! I was so pleasantly surprised watching them! Free! You did it again!
NOTE: There's not a "full length" reaction to these movies. I did cut out the recaps of season 2 where I didn't have anything to say that hadn't already been said in the episode reactions; some parts, though, I did leave in because I reflected more on them, but most of this is the new material! ^^ Hope that's okay!

RIGHT?! Rin's backstory with his father was such a gut punch!! I couldn't believe they went there with his storyline, but I'm glad they did! Yes, he's had that extra pressure and didn't run away from it! Hahahaha, and yeah, I can totally see RinHaru and I will never judge a RinHaru fan, but after season 2 and this movie? Yeahhhh....I lean MakoHaru, too. :D That's awesome you both got your vaccines! When I got mine, it was a Free! marathon that got me through the following day of feeling crummy, so I hear you! Thank you so much for the kind words -- it's been so fun talking about this series episode to episode with you all; it makes it that much better!

2021-06-17 01:57:06 +0000 UTCOmg the extra backstory on Rin gave me SUCH emotional whiplash! I went from "D'aww! How sweet!" to full on crying in 2.5 seconds. It really adds so much to Rin's character, knowing he feels the weight of having to be "the man of the family" at such a young age and it's wonderful he was able to recover and be cheerful and happy. He could have gone the opposite route and completely rejected anything to do with water and swimming, or developed a fear of it like Makoto. Speaking of Makoto, I'm firmly in the MakoHaru camp now, lol. I started season 1 RinHaru, then went back and forth season 2, but now it's MakoHaru all the way๐. I'm almost caught up on all your Free! reactions and I'm sad! My husband and I got our vaccines and have been feeling cruddy all day so I've finally taken the time to binge watch Free! since I only watched season 1 when it first came out. Watching this show with you via your reactions has been so much more enjoyable than watching alone!

Holy cow, yes, this bespectacled man just straight-up called Ikuya "cute." Hm. So interested in him as well as this budding relationship with Asahi and Kisumi? YES PLEASE. OMG, Rin's backstory with his father was HEARTBREAKING! I could not believe how sad it was! His father was perfect, and yessss, the family resemblance! Holy cow.... All of this, plus the MakoHaru sweetness...this was SOOOO much more wonderful and exciting than I had anticipated! :D :D Sooooo ready for Season 3!

2021-04-08 00:08:46 +0000 UTCI'm SO ANGRY that I never watched these. What the hell was I thinking? This was great! Where do I even start? I guess I'll try to go chronologically. The MakoHaru childhood scenes are some of the softest, sickly sweet things I've ever seen and I couldn't be happier. The fact that Haru reached down first is just... *chef's kiss*! That opening with Rin's father, him answering the phone directly... holy cow I was floored, talk about devastating. And then basically instantly hard-cut to him and Sosuke's first interactions... they met at a very important time in Rin's life, it would seem. Also, simply stunning how the Matsuoka family resemblance was animated. So glad to get the Makoto and Rin phone call, too. And Rin basically saying to him he's glad he wasn't too preoccupied with Haru to choose his future plans. Also, uhhh, Ikuya's "roommate"??? Who he is? Probably the most blatant thing that's been out loud in this series, straight up called his homie cute ๐๐ And yeah, they are laying down some nice notes of Asahi and Kisumi, definitely. Boy, I sure do wonder if they're planning something. Having seen season 3, I was really impressed with this. Can't wait to see you react to the whole enchilada! Revisiting Free! with you has made the wait for the movie easier.
