We are nearing the climax of the series, and OH MY GOD, if last volume was about doubt and despair, this volume is about rising up to the challenge and perseverance!
Sakuragi gets props for bringing his team out of their "funk," but my men Akagi and Mitsui -- Inoue draws them better than he EVER has here, and I absolutely LOVE it. This volume was special, and SUCH an amazing way to lead into the final three volumes!

This game DEFINITELY speaks for itself! I feel Inoue made volume 27 so doubtful and dour, only to have this one be so elevating! And OOOH...Sakuragi learning dirty plays seems accurate; he is a delinquent after all. ;) Man, Akagi roaring and getting back in the game was fantastic, but that panel of Mitsui. THAT PANEL. So, so, powerful. Mitsui's story may be my favorite in the series -- I will have to get volumes 7 and 8 and then this one first, because they pair up so well. :) And speaking of Akagi, Uozumi making a stand was fantastic! That makes SO MUCH more sense about him being a sushi chef and Akagi being the "complementary" element -- I love that. :) Uozumi is such a fun character -- you don't always "get" what he's getting at, but the fact that he was so supportive is awesome! So we've had Koichi and Uozumi supporting Shohoku...now if Sendoh shows up, I'm going to lose it, hahaha! Thank you for the comment!

And Sakuragi did pull that jersey)) As the opponent aka lamp-pole was about to jump, Sakuragi pulled his shirt and didn't let him jump up. Cleverly enough he did so the ref couldn't see it. Learning some dirty plays, our delinquent is. Mitsui saying "I'm Mitsui Hisashi, the man who sucks at giving up" is such a powerful moment. After all these years, after all the rivalry, him and Akagi finally working together. With full trust. And the random sushi chef Uozumi suddenly making sushi analogies. Translation had it as just "chef" but the word used actually means "sushi chef", not just any chef. Didn't want to talk about it back then cuz I knew this was coming. Uozumi telling Akagi what he learned himself an that last game against Shohoku. "I don't have to defeat Akagi by myself, if my team wins that's ok, and I got my temmates. All I gotta do is support them" So he starts slicing "gari" the thing used to accentuate the taste of sushi. You're "gari", you're here so your teammates can shine. Why Uozumi thought Akagi will understand that weird analogy is a mystery, but hey, it got through.

That is soooo interesting about the movie -- but does that mean they're skipping Toyotama's match? I wish they'd do two movies back to back for them both, haha!

Inoue is my favorite manga artist. And about the Sannoh series not being animated, rumors are the new Slam Dunk movie coming out would be about Sannoh.

I eventually want to read REAL, it's just going to be a matter of "when" at this point! :) Seriously, though, this volume was incredible -- the way Inoue drew Akagi and Mitsui; you could feel the hype and POWER in those panels! And my dude Sakuragi...the acknowledgement of Anzai...*sigh* This was such a beautiful 180 from last volume...I just loved it...and am sad there's only three volumes to go. T_T

I still get chills seeing Sakuragi finally realizing his potential, while Anzai having a breakdown seeing Sakuragi realizing it. It hits home seeing someone realizing potential, I still get teary eyed lol. YOU GOT TO READ REAL, its life changing literally life changing. I hope you pick it up, while your at it pick up Inoue's whole catalog lol. Vagabond is great too, but mos5 people already aware of it. I feel Real is Inoue's real gem.
