Bungo Stray Dogs Season 2: Episode 3 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**Headphone Warning**
Never trust the angle underneath a vehicle. It's foreshadowing of the darkest kind.

This Dark Age arc keeps amping up, and we get more insight into Oda this episode and learn about Gide, the leader of Mimic...who...has a surprising ability indeed!

With the atmosphere, tension, and symbolism throughout, this was my favorite episode of the "Dark Age" flashback...up until that last minute. Holy. Smokes. @_@ Well...well, now.

I hope you enjoy the reaction! Thank you for watching with me and for the support!

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 2: Episode 3 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yes! It should be fixed now!! Apologies; I didn't know it was broken!

Romaniablack

do you still have a copy of this episode? it's gone QAQ

Sabrina

That's really interesting! Hmmm, but YES! I am definitely going to review "Beast!" I'm really excited to get to it!! :D

Romaniablack

I think you are correct that it's manga-based (according to wiki). The story writer and manga drawer are different persons so I think manga and novels are equal? Not sure, though. You should make a review video of "Beast!". I'll be so happy to see that.

Tameaw

Ahhh, I'm not sure if it's originally from a novel or from a manga -- I think it's manga-based, and the novels are supplementary, but don't quote me on that. ^^ I've heard about "Beast!" It sounds soooo interesting! And Odaaaaaaaa, ahhh, I need more of him! I've definitely considered -- once the anime is caught up -- reading "Beast," because I've had a lot of people suggest it! :)

Romaniablack

There are so many novels of this series and made me believed that the series started from novels until I heard your comment at the beginning that it's from manga. I really would like to recommend "Bungo Stray Dogs: Beast" novel which is a alternative universe with Akutagawa and Atsushi's positions are switched, after you have watched all the anime. Odasaku also appears in this book. It's so interesting that I finished reading in a day.

Tameaw

RIGHT?! Yeah, the suicide "jokes" certainly hit different after this flashback arc. :( Yeah, this entire flashback makes the present seem so much more grounded and serious now that we know! Oh wow, I didn't realize the same author was doing both the manga and light novels -- I know sometimes ghost writers or other authors do light novels and just have the same mangaka reference or proofread/check the work, but that is so awesome! Oooh, interesting about Gide and "Straight Gate." Hmmm, very interesting! That's cool! Thank you for that extra info!! :D

Romaniablack

Dazai slipping up about his depression-riddled assumptions... it's different from everyday joking suicide, isn't it? That's unmistakably real and so very sad. Knowing that is what lurks under surface even in present lifetime, but also knowing he tries nevertheless, he lives on and partners with Kunikida and teaches those youngsters... Light novel stories are truly different at how they handle life and death. Killing off some people in Azure Messenger arc, killing off children in this one. Instead of even Naomi living through gunshooting. The author of manga and light novels is the same but his writing vastly differs. As of this moment, Gide's ability name was confirmed only in one printed "guidebook" that noone reads, so it's not really a spoiler, and I believe it's "Strait gate". You can figure out his IRL identity with it I think! This show does it all the time, you have to guess which writer they mean, and sometimes there is noone you can pin to the manga name. Luckily they gave us the name and ability this time.

Thank you for the kind words! Yes! All aboard the Pain Train, right? Yesss, that's a good angle for how to interpret the books, and I feel SO BADLY for Oda, because yes....he's decided to go for revenge, which is effectively sealing his fate, and he knows it. UGH. Thanks, I hate it. That's a great point about Dazai's "choice" of mentoring -- yeah, Akutagawa probably wouldn't have respected him, and likewise with Atsushi -- which is hilarious, because Atsushi and Akutagawa are SO similar! Hmm. And yeah, Dazai is clearly a bit different than this flashback...or at least, seeming to be! YES! The legacy of "6 Degrees of Kisumi" will live on past Free! Or at least, I will try to make it live on, hahahaha! Thank you so much for the comment!

Romaniablack

That last scene. @_@ I really thought that they were going to drive off with the kids or try to shoot him from the van, but no. NOPE. I knoooow, I know people don't consider it a spoiler, but I do. I almost wish I hadn't been told how long the arc was, but I can't do anything about it. Ah well. Same with sensei; I'll just file that away, haha! Good to know, though. :) But yeah, this series has turned into such a ride! I didn't expect to get this into the characters so quickly, but here we are. Thank you for the kind words! And HAAAA, you all? You all pick a show for me to suffer through?! Say, whaaaaat?? Hahaha, ah, well, I'm happy to be on the Pain Train with you all! And that title for next episode? Yeah, surely not an important episode at all! :D

Romaniablack

OH WOW, I didn't realize young Oda was Atsushi's VA...hmm....that is very interesting. I wonder what to make of that...hmmm... This episode has been literally the most quoteworthy of the show so far, which makes sense, I suppose, since we're talking about Oda being a writer and novels and all that. It's interesting that the third book was considered the "worst"...I'll wait until the next episode to delve any more into it. :) All of these characters need a hug. Or several! I just love the connections and parallels with all of these characters! The tragedy of the bar scene and these characters slowly drifting apart was heartbreaking, but then we had the last scene and THAT SCREAM. The emotion and raw power of that moment...I was speechless! Thank you for the kind words and have a wonderful day, too!

Romaniablack

I TOTALLY thought they were going to drive off with the kids, and then as he ran towards the van, I wondered if they were going to shoot him from the van...but nooooo...they just blow them up. @_@ That ending was so tragic, and yes...so many death flags. I feel so bad for Oda and Dazai as well...and especially after that speech, because he's about to lose something else as well... :( And YES! Maybe he's found something worth living for in our Cinnabon weretiger?! Perhappppsssss??

Romaniablack

Oh, the developments between Oda/Ango/Dazai have been amazing this flashback and the plot weaving in with their relationships and the symbolism and dialogue? **Chef's Kiss** This has been so well paced and wonderful and I absolutely love it! And YES! Suwabe's scream?! INSANELY good emotion -- the English dub is good, but that scream just doesn't match up. And Mannnn, Ango being voiced by Lelouch and Yut-Lung's VA? So good! And yes, Miyano just being wonderful as well. Thank you for the kind words!! I can't believe there's just one episode of the flashback left. T_T

And then we turn the little button and the car went boom. We like the cars the cars that go boom— See that’s exactly why I wouldn’t have said anything about arc length. Leave it a suspense on when things are resolved though with a title like “bungo stray dogs” as an episode itself, that’s your clue that it’s the arc finale. Same with the cat I wouldn’t have said anything about it,, uh you really shouldn’t worry about it for a while. You can be aware of it now that it’s been pointed out but before any more questions get asked about it, don’t worry too much yet. Later season answers. At this juncture, I can neither confirm nor deny any things you’ve said that might be correct or incorrect and I can only let you watch it for yourself cause you might be pleasantly surprised for how this show runs. I absolutely love your analysis of everything though. From what you’ve seen, the way you interpret the characters and understand them is pretty spot on. I knew this would be a fun series for you to suffer through, oops I meant enjoy ;)

snarksadoodle

I think it's interesting that young Oda is voiced by Uemura Yuuto, who voices Atsushi. I love to see how people interpret the third book because there are so many different ways to look at it. There are so many wonderful quotes in this episode but 'A man who takes lives cannot write about lives' is probably my favourite. Ah the parallels with Dazai, Akutagawa and Atsushi. Oh you're right, Gide is similar to the Azure messenger and that ties back to Oda being similar to Kunikida. I want to give Ango a hug. Actually all of them. XD The bar scene brought tears to my eyes once again. This trio are all tragic characters in their own way and it's so sad to watch. The end made me speechless. I never expected this. Suwabe did such an amazing job, especially in the last scene. The scream was so heart breaking. Wish you a wonderful day!!

I had the exact same reaction as you the last 30 seconds of this episode. I was thinking, oh no they took the kids! I was expecting a hostage situation like maybe Gide saying fight me or the kids die, or maybe even a chase scene where he follows the van but NOPE! It just...explodes...welp, there goes his no killing policy. And now he's out for vengeance and just...all the death flags😢 I'm really feeling for Dazai here too, especially after his "everything I don't want to lose" line. I really hope by the end of this series someone or something will defy his expectations and he'll find something worth living for. Maybe our weretiger who can regrow limbs and is really hard to kill?🐅

The character development this arc has is AMAZING, from Dazai´s personality, Oda´s life choices and Ango's trust-you-trust-you-not evolution, everything comes together sooo well. Even though it´s only 4 episodes, it doesn't feel rushed at all. Also, the seiyuus that trio has is top tier. Junichi Suwabe´s scream at the end is just heart-ripping. But the fact that Ango is voiced by Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch, Koro-sensei) is just *chef kiss* and of course, Miyano Mamoru doing awesome as always. Very interesting discussion as always, can´t wait to see your next reactions.

Great reaction & commentary! Welcome to our suffering 😭😭 There’s definitively a lot of ways the third part of the book could be interpreted. I agree with your meta interpretation that the the different parts could represent the episodes but I’ll also add that the books could symbolize Oda’s life. The first and second part are his life before and during the mafia respectively, and the third part is not yet written because it’s his life after leaving the mafia. He has been trying to become a “good” person by not killing so he can be worthy of writing that third part, but now that his kids have been murdered he’ll never be able to leave the mafia and write it because he has chosen revenge instead. As for Dazai’s treatment of Akutagawa and Atsushi, I agree that part of the reason why he’s softer with Atsushi is because the stakes are much lower. However, I also think that, being an expert manipulator, Dazai knew that in order to be respected as his mentor by Akutagawa he had to show him his power and cruelness. I don’t think Akutagawa would have ever respected Dazai if he treated him all soft like he does with Atsushi. Same with Atsushi, he would have never respected Dazai as his mentor if he was cruel. Thus, Dazai knows the kind of mentor he has to be in order to get these very different yet alike boys to respect and follow him. Plus, Dazai has changed somewhat since being in the mafia. ps. I LOVE that “6 degrees of Kisumi” has become a staple of this channel 😂😂💕
