Mo Dao Zu Shi: Audio Drama, Manhua, & Novel Review - Part One

Comments

I love that each medium is basically telling the same story, but with differences -- overall, it's hard to say at this point; I LOVE the donghua, but reading the novel and hearing the audio drama are an EXPERIENCE so far! The manhua is fine, and it's cool seeing the novel drawn out, but I like the novel and audio drama more than the manhua at this point. This being the events of Episode 1, I'm going to be verrrrry curious moving forward to see what all is changed and shuffled around differently in the timeline, especially once we start getting into the flashbacks! And yeah, I didn't expect to get so much information this early on in the novel that relates to events in season 2, but here we are! And I have been told the novel isssssss....spicy, as is the audio drama. It's going to be SOMETHING hearing these voice actors that we know the voices for saying...things, hahahaha, but I am mentally preparing myself! :D Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I hope everyone is okay with the format I'm doing this in -- doing a timer is an experience, hahaha!

So, how did you like the different media approaches? Which one has gripped you most? Heheh, I've started Chinese audiodrama some time ago but got stuck just inside Yi city arc, so now I'm going to restart it alongside you. I've also loved Japanese version, though a little less since voice acting tradition is quite different. Even though I love Ta2 as a voice actor, A-Jie was the one I imprinted on. And official art is kinda leaning towards yaoi standards, Wei Ying being notably more of a twink uke. On the other hand, Chinese official art for audiodrama is simply magnificent each time, though a bit different from book descriptions too. Look, even MXY's clothes got some kind of embroidery, what to say of Wangji's design! And his entrance is the most sexy in every adaptation, of course. You're absolutely right, rereading and rewatching hits differently and so strongly. That's 100% intentional, one of favorite writing technics of MXTX. It comes into full bloom in Heavens Officials Blessing but is already a big influence in experiencing her earlier novels. So. Much. Foreshadowing. Backshadowing. Whatever. Audiodrama OST are few but precious, and WangXian duet that hasn't appeared yet but is coming is also my favorite version, forever. "Frost blade" refers to Bichen, though, it's described as very cold and having some frosty vibes, which donghua kinda transferred from it to Shuanghua, Xiao Xingchen's sword. 1st donghua ending also had descriptions of a frosty gale Bichen creates when fighting, metaphorical but not quite. Audio version is kinda... R-rated I think, it fades to black when things go REAL fleshy but ohh that's honestly enough thanks to our beautiful VAs. That's where we're waiting for Japanese version to catch up and give us the whole experience since Ta2 is an experienced yaoi drama VA XDD BTW, I have this vanishing comments thing figured out, I hope it won't happen again. So nice to hear back from you every time!
