Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Attack on Titan: Episode 21 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Yesssss! The conflict of "woulda/coulda/shoulda" and the price of indecision...it's SO awesome seeing how these conflicting ideologies and strategies all come together in this episode! It's just good storytelling and it has me so excited for episodes to come!

I liked the parallel between Erwen speech at the start of the episode and the action of Levi's squad, Erwen came to the conclusion that if the y can't take any risk, and fight a battle where we bet everything on it humanity can never win, on the other hand Levi's squad was still have the old state of mind, we can't risk Eren to win the battle, those two scenes in parallel determined the outcome of the fight before it even started

Hahahah, Petra was the only important one! :P

Oh thank you! My hidden thoughts are about Eren, and I feel I’m right, but I want to wait until a few more seasons in to confirm those thoughts...bwahahaa...I’m probably 100% wrong, but we shall see. ;) That’s an interesting point about how the Scout chooses to use or not use Eren -- maybe from the flashback, they’re not entirely trusting of his ability or control of it, yet? You bring up a really good point -- why not have used Eren then to fight her? The only thing I can wager is Erwin was wanting to “play it safe” and protect their trump card, Eren, since they weren’t sure the female titan’s full capabilities, but that proved to be a bad decision -- maybe? As Armin says, you can’t know what “should” have happened...only what did and move forward (bold words, sir, hahaha). I agree that Eren’s mindset is influenced by how others have perceived him as well...I give him a hard time in this discussion, but I just worry Eren will take this failed moment of Nakama and decide to go lone wolf in the future, rather than trust his team. But I could be worrying for nothing, soooo...hahaha! AND YES!!! In the back of my mind this entire season, I’ve wondered: Where are the Colossal and Armored Titan?! Are they two people or the same person? How many other secret titans are there? So many questions. Yeah, thinking on the retreat situation, they’re in a tight spot, and it’s not good. Lovely. **nervous chuckle** What I LOVE about this show is that there’s no concrete “correct” answer, like you said. But yeah, you have to wonder why they were so hesitant to use Eren, what that says about their trust in HIM, and how things could have gone if they had used him sooner…*sigh* Where’s our alternate universe? Hahaha! Thanks for the comment/discussion! :)

That's a really good point! I love that we see the "humanity" of Erwin in his mistakes and miscalculations -- he's not perfect, but is still trying to adapt in the moment. And I LOVE the parallels -- I hadn't even considered putting the female titan and Levi together, but yeah, here we are -- they are calm and collected compared to Eren and Mikasa....that's a great observation! Thanks for the kind words and I hope you have a wonderful day, too!

I forgot how much this episode hurts. We know that Erwin is a really smart character and I like that we see him making mistakes. He didn't think about that the other person that can turn into a titan could be this much better at controlling it than Eren is. It shows that he's not inhuman clever. You can really see the differences between the characters that have experience. Eren and Mikasa don't think before they act, they let their emotion take control, while the female titan and Levi are thinking about what is the best thing to do in this situation. I love that parallel in this episode. Wish you a wonderful day!!

I very much enjoyed the discussion portion of the video and you touched on a lot of topics, that i wouldn't have thought of when watching the season for the first time. The hidden thoughts have me intrigued :) Though i want to talk about Eren. You are very focussed on the team aspect of the situation, which i find understandable. But let me make a case for his side. Of course it is easy to side with the reborn protagonist who seems to be immortal now, but plot armor and hindsight aside, imo the seeds for Erens doubts go back to the training stage and fall in line with the Scout Regiment's very core ideals. Without a doubt he is the most powerful tool they possess, yet all they do is make him run away. Isn't that what was being critized about the Military Police ? The Scouts are the adventurous bunch, taking risks left and right, enduring casulties like no other part of the military. And yes, they take a huge risk in undertaking the excursion in the first place, but when push comes to shove, they fall back to standard tactics. Using Eren as bait to lure the Female Titan into the forest (Somehow Erwin was able to send heavy machinery ahead of the formation without anyone noticing, but ok, let's roll with it) might have been a good idea, but when that plan failed, Eren should have been around to fight alongside everyone else, instead of splitting up forces further. When the Female Titan transformed for the second time, one must assume that it takes a toll on the body just like it did with Eren, even if mitigated by experience and training, so that should have been the height of the advantage they had, so imo that would have been the moment to double down. The only thing i can see is that nobody would know if the Armored and Colossal Titan might show up. What are they up to anyway ? Maybe Eren going feral in the Titan would have been a concern; Argueably the schedule was tight, as the court was demanding results or they'd revise their decision, so if we are being generous there probably wasn't much time to test out what Eren is and isn't capable of. But if we assume that the court is pressuring that matter, what is the alternative here ? Isn't simply retreating just failing to produce results ? what does that mean for Eren ? And what for the Scouts as an organisation ? Even if one would assume that there never was a chance to win that fight, what makes anyone think that the Female Titan couldn't catch up to Eren on the way back ? They are still in the middle of nowwhere and the way back is littered with Titans (The Female Titan basically brought an entire Entourage that destroyed the majority of the right flank), so if the plan is to retreat, i don't see much of a plan here, that reaonably would lead to a positive result. I think the point of all this is, that there is no blatantly right choice and even if there was from an omniscient perspective, the actual situation is messy and people don't follow the plan to the letter. But if we were to assume that there generally was a better choice, would that choice apply to everybody equally ? Like, if Eren's Titan is the equivalent of a Tank and everybody else was "just" Infantry, wouldn't it make sense for different rules and standards to apply ? Isn't a single tank supposed to do more than a single infantry unit or maybe even a squad ? And in Eren's case, with the Power disparity being argueably pretty big, isn't Eren supposed to do the lionshare of the work ? I'd say that not using him offensively and making him flee is a wasted opportunity.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that -- but then you think Eren is 15 and it gets weird, so....enough of that! Yeah, the female titan is definitely in control throughout this entire fight; she's thrown off by him at first and his raw strength, but her calm demeanor manages to win out over Eren's intensity...just an insane episode!

Romaniablack

Hahahaha, you are welcome! Thanks for watching!!! ^^

A rough episode for sure. And yes, I agree, the Female Titan vs. Eren Titan can totally seem sexual. But she is clearly the one in control of the situation. I think, although she is taken aback by Eren Titan’s fury and intensity, she keeps her head cool and waits for the perfect opportunities to escape and counter to do the most damage while conserving energy. She rolls and dodges with good form in every part of this amazing fight (except the crazy uppercut which just ignored all humanly pain to move up her arm without a jaw to get a hit in).

omg yes thank you!
