Link Click: Episode 1 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

We start a new series - a new donghua at that - and OH MY. I'm so on board!

From the modern, lo-fi, unique art style, to this spooky, time-travel-esque mystery/detective concept -- there's a LOT of intrigue with this series already, and a creepy, darker undertone that has me hooked by the last 30 seconds!

I'm sure there will be MUCH longer discussions with this series as we delve deeper, but for an opening pilot? Color me intrigued!

Thank you for watching with me and for the support!

AHHHHH YES!!!! Right?! I am excited for you to watch this show! Thank you for the comment and I hope you enjoy it!

Romaniablack

Just started this show and I am hooked !

Melanie Marie

It's such a cool concept and so different than other "Time Travel" stories I've read; I'm excited to watch something unique and modern like this. And yeah...what would Emma's fate have been if Cheng didn't interfere? We'll never know. Hmmmm.... And yes! The emotional connection that Cheng and Emma share in this episode was sweet, but I love how Lu reaches over and touches the bedrail/Cheng's shoulder in that moment. And that part with the text all makes sense, now! :) I LOVE the OP/ED -- they're such jams! I can't wait to get more into this show! :) Thanks!

I'm excited to watch this one with you - it's really good! Confusing at times, but really good. So Lu Guang can see the past and Cheng Xiaoshi can move himself into the mind of the person who took the picture. Together, they can replay those events but take note of things that the original people didn't notice or whatever. But Xiaoshi can change events if he's not careful, which might cause some kind of butterfly effect for the future. With this case, we don't know yet - would Emma have killed herself/ended up dead anyway? Also, in this case, it was recent enough that the future wasn't known yet - maybe the company would have been ruined anyway without their help, just at a later date, and maybe she would have died anyway. If they go into a much older photo, changes would be evident. What surprised me with this show is how emotional it is. Nearly every episode has a scene that will hit you in the feels. Emma's awful situation is bad enough, but then her parents are so sweet and she clearly misses them so much it hurts. She left them behind to try and make it in the big city and she can't tell them it's a nightmare, so she's been trying to do everything on her own and keep them from worrying. But Xiaoshi has some kind of issue with his own parents, so he was overly affected by that dream. He replied to that text, which the OG Emma would not have done. Lu Guang did fall asleep that night - that's how Xiaoshi managed to send the text (Lu Guang would have stopped him if Emma didn't originally send one). Lots of people do ship them, but this isn't a BL. It's a Chinese guy singing the OP in English - I love both the OP and the ED. Yay! This show...you're going to like it!

I only watched the first three episodes and stopped because I didn't had the motivation to watch a new show, but I'm definitely gonna catch up now. The dark twist at the end gets me everytime. I find it so interesting that they travel trough the pictures, it's a concept I've never seen before and I really like it. At first I thought that this was going to be her boyfriend in the future too but nope. I think Lu guang should tell Xiaoshi what happend to the girl because if he doesn't know what can happen he will probably do it again without realizing how bad it can end. Wish you a wonderful day!!

Yeeessss, the OP and ED are SO GOOD! And like a webtoon; that's a good way to describe the art style! I love how unique it all is and the characters seem so cool as well -- oooooohhh --- I'm excited that there will be a season 2! It'll be worth the wait! :) And thank you for the clarification on that! That's good to note! :)

Romaniablack

The music is so amazing! Possibly my fav OP and ED. And the style really looks like a webtoon brought to life. So unique and I love it. I was hooked into these characters from the first ep. But the worst thing about it is that it’s an original story with no source material to jump to. It leaves off on a huge cliffhanger and now we have to wait till season 2. It seems like it will be 2023, possibly 2022. Hope it’s sooner. Just one correction, Qiau Ling is the “landlady” that he’s working to pay the rent for (or her father I guess). Lu Guang is just living there with him for whatever reason…

Julie

Oh dang!! The last time I binged something like that was Devilman Crybaby...and that.......was a choice. @_@ But Oooooh, you have me excited!! And thanks for telling me about episode 5.5 -- I'm assuming that's on Funimation, too? I'm sadly, woefully ignorant as to real life events in China, so I'm sure once we get to those episodes, y'all will let me know about them if you know. :) Thank you for the kind words and comment -- I'm SO hyped, now!

Romaniablack

Present me is so disappointed of past me (by the time you posted the poll I hadn't watched Link Click, so I didn't vote for it) but I just binged the WHOLE thing a week ago, no pausing, no skipping, just watching non stop from 10pm to 3am... You're gonna have a hard time waiting because those cliffhangers are INSANE haha and love how the ed perfectly slides into the last seconds of the ep, intensifying the cliffhanger.. and yeeees that op is *chef's kiss*, and its whole animation was done by only 1 person! Btw, there is an ep 5.5 which is NOT a recap episode, actually the next episodes have some references to that one as well so technically there are 12 episodes. Also, I don't know how much you know about Chinese real life events, but in case you do it would be cool to see if you catch the dates. Can't wait for your next reactions, I'm sure you'll love it and have some really interesting discussions as you keep watching more and more episodes :)

I am definitely intrigued, too! It has a "Thriller" genre vibe to it, and it's more unique than some of the shows I've been watching, so I'm curious where it's going, and I thought the SAME as you did up until the ending, and then that's what hooked me, haha! I honestly like the watercolor animation, but I'm a big Doukyuusei fan, and that's what it reminds me of! I really like some of the visual symbolism that the show has done so far as well...interesting to see where it goes! :) And I didn't realize that about the MAL list -- I saw they were just about to release the Japanese dub of the series, so I wonder if that's why? Hmmmm.. Thank for the comment, though! I'm excited for next week, too!

Romaniablack

It DOES sound a little different than MDZS, so I'm glad you pointed that out! This is only the second donghua I've watched, so lots to learn. :) I really like those little details, and the fact that it connects to real-life events -- that's very interesting, too! Thanks for that info!

Romaniablack

With the mandarin used in this show, dialects and different accents are used more which I feel makes it more authentic and homely. For example, Emma's parents speak non-standard mandarin. It makes it more relatable for viewers that left their small hometown to go to the 'big city'. Also, Link Click deals with a few real-life events that most Chinese viewers will know of.

CJB20

Why not, right?! They compliment each other too well not to! Thank you for the explanation, too! I'm sooo intrigued by their dynamic and Lu seems like he's been doing this a while, so it's going to be interesting learning more about them as the series goes on! I'm all for the ride; thanks for the kind words and cheers to the new series!

Romaniablack

hahaha, oh, no rush or worries! This reaction will be here for whenever you get around to watching! :) I'm so excited to be doing it, too!

Romaniablack

OMG!!! I still need to watch you’re BSD and AOT reactions, so I’m not gonna watch it just yet, but I’m so excited your doing this show!

Julie

I'm not sure! I can't decide if the blonde man was just a random murderer that got the Emma girl in the moment, or if he'll show up later. @_@ But yeah, this work seems slightly...shady? It definitely fits the darker tone! I really like the ambiance of this series, though, and I'm so curious to see what happens next!

Romaniablack

It definitely has a unique vibe, which I am all about so far! :) I'm really excited to see how this "time travel" (though it's a unique way to approach it) story develops -- the tech issues with this first episode limited me on going back through the episode proper afterwards, but hopefully, that won't an issue in future episodes. I'm excited!

Romaniablack

Totally blind for this :) Honestly, when looking up the series briefly for the poll, i initially dismissed it. But after the first episode i can confidently say that i am intrigued. Really "liked" the ending, for a moment i thought this was a "and then she met a boyfriend along the way, once she got over her job". NOPE, got me good there, haha. The premise of "not altering anything" seems like a giant powder keg and i wonder where they'll take it. Cheng seems like the kind of guy who will break the rule, when he sees necessary, so that is my prediction of a "big moment" or maybe it will be a thing every episode how they influence little things ? But if time-travel stories taught me anything that is always a tricky thing. Getting major "Butterfly Effect" vibes. Idk, but i want to know, haha. Okay, i'm invested. I guess i'll be experiencing my first chinese animation with this one (saw a little of MZDS, but it just wasn't for me, so i'll just pretend it doesn't count). Not much of a fan of the washed out color palette for surroundings, but that is taste and can't be argued over, though i guess it's nice for contrast. Animation seems fine, except the lip syncing ? On the positive side, i like that it plays loose with the animation styles to carry the tone of the scene, always a big fan of that (imo one of the advantages animation has over live action), so that was nice to see. Also some great shot composition. Seems like they know their stuff :) Sidenote: Kinda bummed to find out that the japanese VAs are shown on the MAL overview page by default (i guess that is a default setting that works for most stuff there). Hope they change that at some point. But yeah, good stuff, looking forward to next week !

I was waiting for this Tuesday to see you diving into Link Click! Yes, the character design of Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi is complementary in many aspects. Although this is not officially a BL donghua, but I just go straight ahead and ship them too. I mean, why not hahaha. A brief explanation for Lu and Cheng's power. I think Lu's power is to be able to see through a photo what would happen within the 12 hours after the photo was taken. Cheng's power is to dive into the photo and become the one who took the photo. So they work together to travel back in time. Cheng needs Lu's guidance because Lu will know what has happened and can instruct Cheng to do minimum change to the past. Anyway, it's gonna be a ride and I'm all for it. Thank you for your amazing reaction!

goldmund

Okay, this time I go in pretty much as blind as you! It looks so good, the faded visuals and the music, and the boys are clearly doing some shady job. I guess we're in for a wild emotional ride there! That blonde guy probably will be important for a story later. Or not?..

Anastasia -

Yeah, you met the boys Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi. The story for this Donghua is original (no novel or manhua that it is adapted from) and the art style is unique. The Chinese title for it, is Shi Guang Dai Li Ren. You have the basic gist - a "time travel" story but limited to the time frame in which the photo they use as a reference was taken and they only have 12 hours to accomplish their "mission" for the client. I think as you get deeper into it there will definitely be more to disucss
