XingChen is a straight up cinnamon roll, A-Qing is precious, and both Yang and Song Lan are tragically in love with the same man, but despite XingChen advising Yang to "forget the past," Song cannot seem to do so...and perhaps neither can Yang.
The voice acting, the tension, the backstory -- Yi City is shaping up to be an amazing part of this story, and I can't believe they ended it there! @_@

"fragile tenderness" is such a beautiful way to describe Yang's developing relationship with XingChen -- it's so sad, because XingChen is so kind and compassionate and Yang takes advantage of him, despite how his arguably affects him throughout this part of the story. It's very sad and somber when you realize it's all coming crashing down as Song shows up. XingChen is soooo great, though! And I forgot that the juniors wouldn't know about that bell! WuXian...my dude, you're not subtle! Hahaha! And yessss, I hadn't thought of that, but yeah, Daoren's story is VERY similar to WWX's; it's curious how the Lan clan have had interactions with characters who have had tragic pasts and fates -- luckily LWJ is the one to break the cycle with WWX, I suppose. ;)

And oooohhh, that's such a good point -- I could definitely see that Yang targeted those that laughed and him and XingChen -- that would totally be in character for him! And yessss, it's so sad because Yang had developed this little domestic dream and developed a relationship and perhaps love for XingChen, and then the "ex" shows up to ruin it all....I'm honestly really excited but nervous for next week! @_@

I think I need to listen to the next part to voice some opinions on Xue Yang's feelings in the audiodrama but judging from other adaptations I also believed he came to cherish Xingchen very much and was happy to play family with him until drama kicked in again and that psychotic obsession shined out from underneath the fragile tenderness they had developed. I love the way Xingchen is portrayed. He's not that naive and wide-eyed about the world and the people, he jokes around and enjoys irony as well, and loves to have someone to care for... Wei Ying would have adored his shishu as he was and Lan Zhan was probably sad as well considering that. That said, just you wait for the beginning of that story in the Untamed! The Yunmeng clarity bell, ha. They've just established you have to be familiar with the signal, and Wei Ying just - names the Yunmeng bell none of the disciples were aware about? Not suspicious in the slightest! I was always so very curious over that Yangling-daoren that was the first Baoshan disciple that left the mountain! I mean, his story sounds so much like Wei Ying's. Was he probably gravely misunderstood as well? Was he corrupted by some dark energy as well? Do the Lans fear dark energy manipulation so much because some of their ancestors had to put that Yangling down?? Questions, questions.

I picked up a little interesting detail in the audio drama this time listening to it with you. When Yang and Xingchen were out their night-hunting "walking corpses," A-Qing recognized a few dead people in the village who mocked them as "two blind and a lame." Although Xingchen was there trying to help the villagers, they still laughed at them. I wonder if Yang chose them as his victims because they laughed at him and Xingchen once. And we established that Yang is an insidious knife that waits for opportunities to revenge for even the smallest cause. I also like how you picked up the detail that Yang's "domestic," dream-like life with Xingchen was completely shattered the moment Song Lan showed up. Yi City was a devastating arc. We get flickers of warmth and light but the somber reality would eventually outlast them.
