The seriousness and tonal shift is starting to kick in and man, Chao's actor does a REALLY good job of making you loathe him and his actions to our protagonists in these episodes. Yibo and Zhan specifically NAIL the emotions in this episode, and I'm genuinely worried for our dear Uncle Qiren in this! The angst and pain begins here, huh?

RIGHT -- when he called HuaiSang a loser, I thought, "Yeahhhh....funny that...." That makes sense about Mingjue and Xu as well. And yesss, tonal shift and happy times leaving...I'm definitely not ready for the incredibly sad parts of Season 1 I've worked hard to push back in my memory, but here we go, right? ^^ Thanks for the kind words and comment!

2021-12-07 17:18:45 +0000 UTCYessss, I love HuaiSang in this series -- he can be so puppy-like and then you realize how good of an actor he is as well, and his character becomes so much more layered... @_@ Hahaha, and the puppet dog was fine -- I give major props to Zhan for acting so well in that scene, and that makes sense we skipped the archery scene to go straight to the indoctrination! Good clarification, there; thanks!

2021-12-07 17:17:03 +0000 UTCOooooooooohhhhhhhhh, man, that makes MUCH more sense -- you can tell how long it's been since I've watched season one of the donghua with this reaction! -__- That makes more sense; thank you for that clarification! I'll have to make note of that. I think maybe there was a back shot of Xu in the donghua? But yeah, he's pretty much off screen -- they just make him sound strong and intimidating (making his death by Mingjue all the cooler) and then there's Chao....who's....not, haha!!

Can't imagine how many times Mingjue tried to make him train with a saber just for Huiasang to whine and faint 5 minutes in. Puppet dog is honestly the worst XD But it's okay, it's a theater anyway, we don't point at the scene and shout "Mommy that's not a real beard on that guy!". Yes, there is no archery tournament here, the Wens already have all the base to lash out at other clans.

2021-12-07 08:35:24 +0000 UTCI think you're getting the Archery Tournament and the indoctrination confused. In the Donghua they happened at different times. The other Sect leaders were there for the Archery Tournament (Ep 7 of the Donghua) only this was when we were first introduced to both Wen Rohan and Chao (and of course Ning). Then in EP 8 we go back to Junmeng and it is here that we get the word that the Wen's want the disciples to go to the Nightless City for indoctrination. And I am pretty sure Wen Xu is only mentioned in the Donghua, we never saw him. He may have mentioned by Wen Rohan regarding the attack on the Cloud Recesses and he was definitely mentioned in regards to his death by Mingjue.

Wen Chao said to Huaisang that Ruohan has ordered to suppress the Nie clan because they refused to hand over Yang in the last episode. We still don't know the result yet. Also, Chao calling Huaisang a loser. I find it hilarious. Hmmm Chao, guess who eventually outlasted everyone and became the final "winner". You're absolutely right about the tonal shift. Happy, shenanigan time has gone past way faster than expected, and things are about to go down. Although it's gonna be hard time ahead, I sooo look forward to your reaction to how the live action handles the remaining flashback materials!
