Yes, I personally thought it reminded me of Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train and a scene from it, but I’m sure it was inspired by that as well! I like the idea of Miura being inspired by that as well as the Pirate sea shanties you talked about in this comment. Thanks for the information about the song (what a song!) - I love Isma’s character and can definitely see the similarities there! And who knows! Knowing Miura, maybe while he was holed up and writing this arc, he listened to pirate songs for inspiration; I wouldn't put it past him! Thanks for the links too! 😀 I harped on Farnese when her character hit rock bottom, but I have really appreciated how far she’s come in this series! I definitely feel for Serpico - after watching Revolutionary Girl Utena, where every sister fawns over her big brother, it definitely hurts to see the literal opposite! Also, definitely supporting the ship of Roderick and Farnese - he’s a tad bit of a womanizer from “recent reads” of him, but I appreciate his appreciation at her independence! Go Roderick! I definitely feel that by the time we reach Elf Helm, it would be…the three quarters’ through mark? Maybe? Reading One Piece - another series spanning 30 years nearly - dilutes my sense of pacing, and Miura’s pacing doesn’t help that, haha! But yes, That’s a fair point about the similarities of Guts and Griffith - my issue is - I really don’t, based on how far Guts has come, even WANT a Griffith vs. Guts show down at this point. I would honestly rather Griffith’s tower crumble from within and bury him in it and Guts to just move on with Casca and do his own thing – anything else at this point would almost feel cliche and against all the work Miura has done otherwise, but who knows! Maybe he’ll surprise me and convince me otherwise with his narrative! We shall see! I definitely agree that I’m sure waiting nearly 10 years to get through this arc would have been ROUGH – but for me, Volumes 35+ was exactly what I needed – we’ve had nearly 30 volumes of despair…I think it’s a bit realistic for things to take a different turn every now and then. Yes, “it’s okay, Miura” Hahaha! Thank you for the comment!

Ooohhh, that all actually sounds AMAZING! Do you air mail?! And yes, I’m VERY excited for Delicious in Dungeon! I do think it’s funny how Miura just made the most terrifying creatures in real life…just bigger for scale! The Astral World has caused some nuclear radiation to increase them in size, perhaps! ;) There is a very distinct line between cute and terrifying with all of these creatures, but it fluctuates quite a bit! ^^ All that information you provided was FASCINATING! Especially the Hagfish - I’d heard of it before but the video was…illuminating! ;) And the Dumbo Octopus! Adorbs! 😛 I can see the Puck-as-Black-Lagoon monster as well! I couldn’t remember how many they actually have with the Octopus hearts, so thank you! Let’s just keep it simpler for Guts to fight, eh? 😛He has enough to worry about! Haha!! Ahh, that’s a good point about all the eyes as well! The ocean is also so beautiful but so terrifying…probably a good analogy for this series, eh? Thank you for the kind words and comment - I’m starting to feel very antsy and nervous about being caught up, to be honest - I want to binge read and be there, but I also want to take it slow and savor this last month coming up…it’s a weird combination. Thank you for the comment and kind words! Also, those models are really cool! Thank you for sharing!

Ok, pretty sure it's merely coincidental but, all the eyes on the Sea God reminded me of the art for one of the races in All Tomorrows, a mass of flesh with eyes looking at you has to be one of the creepiest things you could be coming face to face. Since I'm reaching with these similarities, when the pirate screamed "Come on-a my house" reminded my of an oldie song by the same name which in turn reminded me of another oldie song called 'Pirate Jenny' from the Threepenny Opera. All of that to get to my point, that song reminded me a lot of Isma. It's a song about a hotel maid that's sort of a pariah in her town, but then pirates come along and destroy every building in town except her the hotel where she lives, and they chain all the townspeople and ask her what to do with them and she orders them all to be killed and sails off with the pirates. Isma is in a similar situation, where she's a pariah in her island, pirates and monsters come along and destroy everything (she's nicer though since she tells Isidro that even if she hated them she didn't want the town's people to die) and then with everyone in her island now gone sails off in the ship with them (at least I hope so, I really don't want a "I must go off with my kind" situation and join the merrows get out of the story). Unless Miura was into musical theater or something, there's so many steps my brain took to make that connection, that I doubt it's anything real, but still someone might find it interesting so I'm sharing. The song is glorious too, sort of an anthem for every person put down by their community, so anyone curious I recommend giving it read and a listen. He'res a classic version by Nina Simone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7awW5nrDHk Or a more recent take on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIjms29rFA0 and lyrics: https://genius.com/Nina-simone-pirate-jenny-lyrics Farnesse getting her due respect was great to see too, I've loved this arc so far, almost every important character has had their chance to shine in their own way, and gotten some pay off from where they were originally coming from. And maybe it sucks a little bit for Serpico that she's grown up so much and he doesn't get to be her only cheerleader, but she's his sister so he will have to get over it specially since we're on the Roderick ship, literally. Also, I don't know how far the end of the story is meant to be from this point, but it almost feels like things are coming to a head. Griffith had his victory lap, and he's seemingly in his greatest, most powerful, least vulnerable point in the story and probably thinks he's got the world by the balls, but Guts and crew are already way past their low points and are near their peak points too... Did Griffith go inside a towering demon and destroyed him from inside? Well, Guts went inside an ancient sea god and did the same. Does Griffith have the Godhand by his side? Well Gut's got the four cardinal points and a Schierke on his back. From memes, I knew people made fun of how long this whole ship business has taken in real world terms, but as a first time reader I think this arc is what the story needed. I love doom and gloom probably a bit more than most people, but let our heroes get some real wins under their belt every now and then, it's ok Miura.

So today we made twice cooked pork belly and Taiwanese 5 spice pork chops. Yummm! ( getting in the mood for Delicious in Dungeon) I just love the sea life in this volume! Of course, they are real animals. I kinda laugh because Miura made some of these animals larger than what they are in real life. They range from a few centimeters to about 20+ feet! The list of animals: Sea pigs, a type of sea cucumber that look like pigs! Deep Sea Isopods! Yes, you can get them as a stuffed animal. Super cute! We actually have some at our local aquarium and I love them! Sea Spiders, yeah, they are creepy looking, but not big at all. Crown Jelly Fish, I have no idea how small or big they get although I’ve seen some ROV footage of them that makes them look gigantic! Headless Chicken Monster! I love the name for a sea cucumber! It’s red in color and looks like a plucked headless chicken! Goblin Shark! My favorite shark! They are pink in color and have a jaw that shoots out to snag its prey. They can get up to 20 feet long. Gulper Eel, these guys are pitch black and all mouth! Lamprey, a jawless fish that has infested the Great Lakes. Cookie Cutter Shark, a tiny shark less than a foot long that scoops flesh out of larger animals like whales, sharks and submarines. Yes Submarine, sonar covers. The US Military thought it was a secret Soviet weapon! Turned out to be a tiny shark! Frilled Sharks, one of our most primitive sharks that look more like an eel than a shark. Wolf trap Angler Fish. Very rare weird angler. Vampire Squid, has one of the largest eyes in a squid and eats oceanic snow…it looks vicious but is a sweetie. The most vicious squid is the Humboldt squid! Hagfish, or slime eel! The most useful and disgusting fish ever! We eat ‘em, make their skin into leather and their slime may have medical and scientific benefits. https://youtu.be/ctoBivu2NSE?si=ujfcfd8n56LiIM0U And the cutest of all the animals that Miura depicted in the Sea God, the Dumbo Octopus! https://youtu.be/pxuBwfNp2wk?si=kwLJio8h5fZlj_bh In some panels, Puck appears to be some sort of sea monster like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, or, or, Hangyoden a character from Sanrio! To me he looks like Hangyoden. So, how many hearts does an octopus have? They have three! But in this world, just one. 😉 You noticed all the eyes! The other “god” that had multiple eyes was the one that Griffith met during the eclipse. So most people kinda snicker at the “sperm whale” line. It is based in fact! So the pirates look like squid tentacles and sperm whales eat giant squid. It’s that they like to eat. Some whales have been seen with squid tentacles attached to them as they chow down on a dead squid. 🦑 Mostly just animal stuff for this volume as I like to talk about animals! Great reaction as always! Tally Ho to volume 37! I can’t believe we are closing in on done! 😱 👁️👁️👁️FEB Spoilers⬇️👁️👁️👁️ I have two isopod models I got from a Gachapon machine. https://youtu.be/mwHYXOE4C-s?si=aenJJjAr2I1HquyR Volume 36: 2!
