Natsume Yujin-Cho Season 2: Episodes 12-13 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 *SEASON FINALE HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I can't believe we're already to the end of season 2 and this two-parter is the MOST intense yet with this show! Natsume meets a young boy named Kai who might be able to see Yokai and instantly, Natsume wants to help keep him safe.

However, there are a lot of forces at work that are going to make Natsume choose: Do you help humanity? Or help the yokai? I hope you all enjoy this episode as much as I did! ONWARD TO SEASON 3!

Natsume Yujin-Cho Season 2: Episodes 12-13 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I’m going to get to your other comments from this week when my Internet is a little more stable, but I had to go ahead and look at this one! 😀Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! Like you posted in the discord server, the setting of this show is such a huge part of it and I love that! A lot of shows just have “setting” but don’t incorporate the atmosphere and I really appreciate it here! And yessss, Madara is working more and more hand in hand with Natsume and trying to assist him, which is great! And yessss, I’m so sad for Kai! Him just wanting a friend connects him so much to Natsume - which is crazy because he’s a literal godlike spirit and Natsume is mortal, but they both experience loneliness. And yes, all the ways in which we communicate or have lack of communication; I like how this show explores that. Even with the Natsume vs. Reiko contrast and comparisons. It’s really tough to watch Natsume resist opening up, even when we understand it - a lot of heartbreak in these episodes and bittersweetness! But then it adds little humorous moments like Madara’s addiction to sake! 😛 OH! I’ll make sure to add the tags, so thank you!! And YES! Starting season 3 and looking at the manga for season 2 - there’s going to be some LONG intros, so hope y’all are ready! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Loved the reaction & discussion! Adore this episode set but it is really rough for me, had to give myself an extra few days before watching. Various things I loved: the way the episodes split in terms of more warm tones, especially in the abandoned house, in ep 12 vs cooler tones in ep 13. Tanuma is the best and most gentle bean - I will accept no arguments! 🥰 Watching them all be so sweet to Kai, Taki baking him some cookies, etc. The way Madara is more and more obviously steering Natsume – in ep 13 he wakes him up out of his stupor, kind of going ‘so what are you going to do in this moment?’ Beyond all of those, this is all about a deep-seated loneliness within Kai (and I love that they've chosen a 'river god' for this emotional vein). It is him fighting against what he knows (through experiences) vs what he is seeing (with the way Natsume treats him and others). About knowing how to be a friend. About figuring out how to respond to what is actually happening in reality vs everything he has experienced before. It is SO difficult to break those learned patterns. If all someone has ever experienced is pain and abandonment – how could they have learned to act in a different manner or expect something different? How could we expect them to view their reality without an inherent bias? These parallels of Kai vs Natsume vs Reiko are so beautifully presented in these eps. Especially since with Reiko it is a sort of a book-end, a tiny moment, meant to just make the audience think. Loved the way all of that was done. I also agree that Natsume’s primary toxic trait is a pathological level of self-reliance and it is so tough to watch sometimes. We can see its origin, and how it is well-meaning and well-intentioned – not originating out of paranoia or dislike or a negative perception of those around him. It is the same as Kai just a different timbre – this is what I have seen in my life, how could I know something different? So much heartbreak in these 2 episodes! 😭 For something different – I really prefer to think that everyone sees a cat getting plastered on sake and everyone’s used to it! 😂 Btw, just noticed that the post needs tags, it is not appearing in the Natsume tag. Can’t believe we’ll already be on season 3! Looking forward to next week. 💙
