Revolutionary Girl Utena: Episode 15 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 *MILKSHAKE-SLURPING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I am LIVING for this Sailor Moon-esque "Boys of the Black Rose" arc so far, and I'm also always game for a Miki-themed episode, and this one was fantastic!

Kozue, Miki's twin, takes center stage as we learn more about her and Miki's relationship...show...why you gotta make these baby sisters all Stage 5 Clingers?!

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! I really appreciate that and I am looooving this series so far! And YES, series with multiple possible interpretations are so fun! I agree so much with what you’re saying about Kozue and her wanting to grow up and Miki not wanting to leave that nostalgia. It definitely is fascinating! The idea of nostalgia vs. reality is one that’s really well done in this show and leaves you so curious each episode! I definitely agreed with a lot of what you said in the discussion! 😀Thanks for the comment again and I hope you like the future episodes to come!

Thanks for the comment and kind words! I definitely agree with you about their obsession with purity and how they need to reestablish their relationship since they've grown up! That's a really good point!

Hahahaha, I do like Nanami a LOT as a character - I just love giving her a hard time...you know...because of the kitten murdering. :P But, she's still paying for her sins, so it's fine. ;) Thanks for the comment!

The level of sexual promiscuity of the underage characters in utena is definetly intended to come off as uncomfortable and unusual. Kozue is such and interesting character. He relationship with Miki is definetly not healthy but its nice to see that she does really care about him. They both need to let go of the dynamic they had in their childhood and their mutual obsession with purity. I love your predictions about Akio so far. I won't spoil anything but you do sucha good job paying attention to details.

Nanami character analysis: She's a crazy cat killer, but she's cute so it's ok (I can fix her)

Hey, Romania. I love your reactions so much. It is so refreshing to find someone willing to put so much time and effort into understanding this show's meaning. Especially, because it can be interpreted in so many ways. Honestly, I watched this show so long ago that I barely remember anything that happened later. So, everything I want to say is based on only these 15 episodes. But it's ok if you still prefer not to read it to avoid any bias on your own interpretation later. I mostly just want to share these thoughts that I've had for a long time. To me, Kozue’s behavior can be understood as a desperate attempt to escape her childhood and its lingering emotional impact, while her brother Miki clings to it. This duality between the siblings creates a fascinating dynamic. Kozue's desire to grow up quickly is evident in her relationships with older men and her general recklessness, almost as if she's trying to fast-forward her adolescence. She appears to be running away from the innocence and protection that Miki wants to preserve. Her many boyfriends and overt defiance of traditional virtue reflect this, as if she’s trying to prove to herself and Miki that she is no longer the child he remembers. Despite her attempts to break free, Kozue remains entangled in her past, unable to fully leave behind the shared history with Miki. Their strained relationship reflects this tension—while they barely speak, they still live in the same room, bound by a connection neither can sever. Kozue’s obsession with Miki comes from this unresolved emotional conflict. She can’t move forward because a part of her is still trapped in the past, much like Miki, who romanticizes their shared childhood. In contrast to Miki’s Madonna-Whore complex, where he idealizes purity and virtue, Kozue purposely seeks to corrupt herself as if to destroy that innocence he treasures. Yet, simultaneously, she fiercely guards Miki’s purity, telling others that “nobody can taint him.” This contradictory behavior reflects how, despite their differences, they mirror each other. Both are stuck in a shared past, and their actions are rooted in the same emotional core—Kozue tries to escape it, while Miki tries to preserve it. Neither can truly let go of their intertwined history. Their personalities may be opposites, but they are bound by this shared experience, unable to escape or move forward fully.
