Gakuto was SUCH a highlight! He’s so extra and putting the “sport” into this sports anime, LITERALLY. But yes, he is a great contrast! Oh my gosh and YES, NO HETEROSEXUAL EXPLANATION for Issa fawning over Gakuto in a tent in the mountains and afterwards! Shimada is definitely flexing his heterosexuality in flat-out turning down Gakuto. I agree, Yanagihara just sad because Shimada is basic - bless him. Hahaha, STILL, Souya vs. Rei - I am SO EXCITED! And yes, the two of them are so similar, I can’t wait to see how they handle facing each other! I do really feel for Rei losing the Science/Shogi club – it being his safe space and where he was starting to make friends his own age! I’m glad that the club will be there, still, along with Hayashida if needed - but it is sad it won’t be the same. But yes, the theme of change being normal even if it’s heartbreaking! Ugh, this show just GETS YOU IN THE FEELS with its message! I am SO ready for the rest of this season! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

2024-10-21 23:23:27 +0000 UTCThe highlight of this episode is Gakuto, if you ask me XD Gakuto's extra-ness seems like a lot of fun, and I love the way that Shaft animated that. He's certainly a nice contrast to most of our serious and proper characters. I was *dying laughing* at the mountain Issa/Gakuto moment. There is no heterosexual explanation for that, none. This man really is a menace. Oh, I'm as flabbergasted as you that we're getting the big Souya/Rei showdown *this season*. Crazy stuff. It'll be a ton of fun, though; especially because it has been pointed out to us before, through the Souya/Shimada game, that Rei is a lot like Souya, and I feel like that will make this a very interesting game indeed. As much as all the Shimada shaming was a bit of a low blow, I appreciate that it seemed that both the President and Yanagihara were doing it in good fun and not meanly; I mean, Yanagihara paired himself with Shimada at one point, so it felt more like friends ribbing their friend than something mean spirited. Rei losing the Science/Shogi club really felt like a big loss. That being the one place that really felt like Rei's space... it felt like something to mourn when it was announced. And, as much as I'm glad that the club isn't completely disappearing and will continue as the Shogi club, well, I'm not sure if it'll be the same escape and homeyness for Rei. Of course, change is normal, but it still feels like something that shocks you to your core; especially, after getting that heartwarming moment with all of them just celebrating Rei's accomplishment and showing him friendship and kindness. If nothing else, seems like things are going to be interesting for a while in Rei's life XD
