Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Novel Chapters 72-74 Reaction!

*HUGGABLE HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Shen QingQiu is facing his "penalty" for failing his mission - but as per usual - MXTX isn't just going to stop there!

This chapter set takes our Peerless Cucumber on a journey filled with mysterious side characters showing up in the 9th hour, behind-the-scenes flashbacks, and FINALLY - our denying peacock perhaps reaching a point of understanding and desire...to mend fences with his Shizun-chasing disciple! This chapter set was STUNNING and now I can't wait for the rest of Volume 3!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Novel Chapters 72-74 Reaction!

You are more than okay! It’s an insanely busy month!! Oh yeah, leave it to MXTX to choose the most PAINFUL option of our theories! SQQ not wanting to see the person he likes hurting him that way? Oof. It’s so sad! I love how it transitions to SQQ accepting and realizing his feelings - it’s one of the things that makes this chapter set maybe my favorite in the whole series so far, or one of them. SevenSeassssss - I’m sure we’ll get back to Chapter 73 eventually. But still! And yes, I feel the Shen Jiu backstory is about what we could expect from a character like him, but it’s good to get confirmation! And yes, MXTX gives us answers but then ANOTHER question! How dare she! Haha! That “blur” moment was just…I would have thrown the book if I didn’t want to hurt it! Haha!! Oh wow, that’s really interesting in MXTX kind of using SQH as a meta way of showing an author’s decision to include a divisive character! See, I honestly think the opposite - I feel giving the “gray backstory” makes them MORE endearing to an audience than just outright evil. But that’s just me. I get why he did the things that he did in the moment at the mansion, especially with the Qiu brother that was abusive. But then, that doesn’t mean he was justified to be that way towards LBH. I agree wholeheartedly with your last sentence in that paragraph! 100%! 😀 I LOVE SQQ and SQH’s conversations - they know how to push each other’s buttons! That entire scene was SO GOOD. The scene where SQQ pats and tries to comfort child LBH is so sweet and beautiful - it made me love his character even more! And yes, I think at this point SQQ cares for LBH and even knows it - it’s just that whole COMMUNICATION part that makes me want to shake him. But yes, that ending scene with them was so sweet! It was a cherry on the cake, for sure! I also love Meng Mo just randomly appearing back up to answer questions! Portable Grandpa indeed! I guess, I would have liked…more? Out of him at this point, but if this is his only purpose…okay, sure, I guess. And he conveniently ties together the plot offscreen! I guess SQQ is lucky in that regard! “IT HURTS” – Still one of the most brutal scenes. And yes, WHO is QiGe! We shall seee! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Slowly catching up with your reactions. When you said you didn't think we'd get Luo Binghe making Shen Qingqiu into a human stick in the last set of chapters I was giggling nervously/painfully. But I do adore how Shen Qingqiu plea for the original flavour to not do it was based on him having the same face as *his* Luo Binghe 🥺 That alongside his wish for his Luo Binghe to show up and help him dissociate the dream from his Luo Binghe is an increment of a step forward on Shen Qingqiu's (painfully) slow journey to realising and accepting his feelings 😆 I questioned, like you, why the chapters skipped from Chapter 72 to 74. Blame for that can be laid at 7Seas feet. We finally get answers on the original backstory for Shen Jiu, but would it be a Mo Xiang Tong Xiu novel if she didn't then leave you with yet another frustrating question of "Who is Qi-ge?!" 😅 Mo Meng did warn us, but yeah I wanted to throw my book at the wall when I read that Qi-ge's features were a blur. I do find it ironic that Shen Qingqiu makes the commentary that he can understand Shang Qinghua's point of view for removing Shen Jiu's original backstory as it would have caused wars in the comments, when I have seen some back-and-forth discourse within the SVSSS fandom fighting over Shen Jiu as a character due to how he was treated at the Qiu home 😅 Very much proves the point that readers will love to hate a purely villainous scum, but the moment you give them a tragic backstory the line becomes much more grey and divisive within the fandom on how such a character should be treated and thought of. When it comes to Shen Jiu I'm somewhat in the middle: I can understand why his personality was the way it was, and how such a start in life could affect the actions he chooses (like you said, the cycler nature of abuse that can occur), but that doesn't mean his actions (both before Shen Yuan was transmigrated, and what happened in the original novel) should be forgiven and forgotten. I think, like you, giving Shen Jiu this backstory definitely makes him a much more three-dimensional character, and can definitely see how with such a backstory he becomes a more relatable character for a lot of fans. I will always take a villainous character with depth over a character who is a villain just to be a villain. Then of course we go back to Shen Qingqiu not taking Shang Qinghua's bull when it comes to certain decisions with the plot; in this case the digging of holes 🤣 Shang Qinghua should be glad not to be in reach of Shen Qingqiu in that moment or he'd have gotten ranted at for his writing choices and possibly throttled for trying to bullsh*t his way out of such a choice. Shen Qingqiu knows how to make me both smile and want to cry over the course of a few scenes. To go from him patting child!Luo Binghe's head to wanting to pat dry his tears, even though on both occasions he can't actually touch or affect Luo Binghe, or even be noticed by Luo Binghe, it definitely hurts my heart a little. Also makes me want to shake Shen Qingqiu because just those two moments clearly show how much Shen Qingqiu cares for the younger 🥺 That reappearance of our Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu *nodding*, and then the kisses 🥺...yeah definitely a moment for kicking your legs and squealing 😁 Also I adore that Shen Qingqiu's eyes were covered before Luo Binghe spoke. If he'd seen Luo Binghe before he spoke then, considering what he'd just been through during the punishment section, there is the strong possibility Shen Qingqiu would have automatically flinched away from Luo Binghe, resulting in a misunderstanding cropping up between them again. Being unable to see the person and just hearing his voice calling him "Shizun" is a fantastic way to help Shen Qingqiu immediately know that the one with him is *his* Luo Binghe. Meng Mo is our portable, surly grandpa who (helpfully) answers questions raised through his abilities with memories and dreams. I do admit to laughing at how suspicious you were of him in the donghua and your belief that he could not be trusted 😁 Instead he helped Shen Qingqiu with Qiu Haitang (without it being asked of him, mind you), and didn't question Shen Qingqiu's memory loss but rather questioned if he was sure he wanted to remember such things. That moment is one I loved with Meng Mo. For all his surliness he understands traumatic memories and the power they can hold over a person. Our Shen Qingqiu was trying to think of explanations for his memory loss, but I feel like Meng Mo believed that his mind purposefully blanked out such memories in order to protect himself (as can happen with victims of such abuse). Romania: I was getting some flashbacks to Heaven Official's Blessing, and another scene where a character is stabbed with a sword until they're a bloody pulp... Annie: It hurts It HuRts it hurts IT HURTS 😭 Some interesting theories on "Who is Qi-ge?" 🤔🤐😁

Oh, thank you for the comment and the kind words! We’re here! Oh yeah! I think because I have seen some similar villains in other stories to him (including MXTX’s work with gray villains like QR and JGY) that it helped! And YES, villains that are complicated like that make me so happy to read about - I love all the little notes, like with NYY, to really tie everything together! Those little details are such *chef’s kiss* moments! OH REALLY?! That’s CRAZY about that little detail! How wild - the good thing is that SY wasn’t bothered as SQQ by it, but it certainly adds another layer to it all! And yesssss, ALL THE THEORIES! I’m glad you’re on board with me for them! Honestly, I’m so glad that SQQ just let himself go and BE happy that LBH is there for him! THat was so sweet! That’s also a good parallel to the first time he suffered in the “dream” to now! Yesss, great callback! The “Not with that face” was BRUTAL. Glad that part is over! Thanks again!

Oh thank you! I’m glad you all are along for the ride with my theories! But that sucks you were spoiled! 🙁I’m sorry to hear that! And YES, SQQ was definitely showing the love! The romance was ON POINT and exactly what I was hoping for from these chapters! I honestly don’t think by this point that SQQ fears LBH - I feel after the “punishment” he quickly realized that LBH is QUITE different from the OG version and has come to terms with that, which FINALLY! So happy for that! Thank you so much for the kindness and the comment! I appreciate that!

Romaniablack

Yes! Which fuels into my theories in the discussions about him but definitely connects back to the sister and how she was one of the few that was genuinely kind to him. Thanks for the comments!

Romaniablack

Oh definitely !!

I also found it interesting that a point was made that he did not touch the women in the house.

LoreleiS

We can’t talk about chapter 73….

LoreleiS

Absolutely! But can you imagine the first time SJ hears NYY say “A-Luo” around him. In text people say he was jealous of the relationship between them but it’s not just that one thing. There’s always another layer to peel away.

Icy

You are right.. the Qui Master first name was Jianluò thus his sister called him A Luo .. but I think SJ would have had it against him no matter what, he was adamant to have this *skilled* disciple even before his name was known to him …. Such vicious cycle of repeated trauma and abuse.

I loved hearing your thoughts on who Qi-he is! I’m pretty sure I got accidentally spoiled for that reveal during my own read through, so I never got the chance to do that kind of theorizing. You could really feel SQQ’s love for Binghe in these chapters. From the angst of him saying/thinking ‘not with this face!’ during the punishment, to the aching sweetness of him hugging the young LBH during the dream sequence, to the sheer relief of SQQ finally being able to admit how he missed his Binghe 🥹 It can be easy, sometimes, to believe that SQQ just fears Binghe. But moments like these make it so clear just how much SQQ really cares about him. Plus the bit about wanting to see his Binghe’s face after the punishment, as a palette cleanser, to make sure that fear of the other Binghe doesn’t stick. All just so good! Thanks for the video! Both your reactions and your analysis are always a delight to watch

I don’t know what to say I love that you finally gotten to SJ’s backstory. SJ is a character in fandom that has a lot of mixed feelings around him. I’m a little surprised you immediately got the themes around him and the little nuances it fills my heart with joy. I adore villains like him because the actions make sense. He takes on the role of his abuser, makes NYY the little sister and put lbh in his position. Unfortunately therapy doesn’t exist. The parallel between them is infinite. Everything he does can be traced back to the past and I love it. I also am a big fan of JGY as a villain (and QR surprisingly). I’m not 100% sure this is a spoiler more of a little detail but the master qiu in the fan translation (if I remember correctly) was also called A-Luo by qiu hai tang. Another trigger perhaps. It was interesting to hear your theories on who qi-ge is. It’ll make the reveal sweeter. Seeing LBH at the end of this chapter set is a breath of fresh air. The fact that the first time sqq suffered at the hands of the og he couldn’t bear to look at lbh but this time he was utterly desperate to see him. Chef’s kiss. The most painful line “Not with that face”
