March Comes in Like a Lion // 3 Gatsu no Lion Episode 34 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 **MISTY AND ILLUMINATED HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

All I can say is: HINA. YOU LEGEND. The *ANIMATION* of this episode, y'all. The emotions, the power, and Rei wasn't even here!

I would not have imagined back in season 1 that an episode focusing on Hina and Akari would have been this emotionally powerful, but March does like to subvert our expectations in the best way! WHAT an episode!

I did miss Rei, but the Hina focus in this episode was incredible, I agree! Shaft just NAILS the animation, yes! And all the focus on the teachers in this episode was sooooo good, so relatable, and so worthy of discussion, as you all saw from me, haha!! But Hina standing her ground - I wish I had an ounce of the confidence she has when I was in high school! And how she rises above the bullying; girl is an INSPIRATION! Akari was relatable too – I always fear encounters with people like the mother and I’ve had those throughout my job and they’re never pleasant, so my empathy was high for her! And for Hina to be a support to her was insane - girl is powerful beyond her years! But YES, Hokunobu is AMAZING! I love him and he’s SUCH a breath of fresh air in this madness! I love how he comes in with confidence and the “appropriate” authority. And yes, Hina moving to Rei’s high school and having Hayashida as a teacher would be AMAZING! I forget they’re in separate schools sometimes! Hina is so kind, I want her rewarded for it! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

That is DEFINITELY a slightly terrifying way to view individualism; I can agree that individualism can be toxic, but the opposite can be very true as well. It’s so crazy to see how the culture treats the situation, and I’m so glad we have a teacher like Kokonubu who is so understanding and sees through the BS as well! He’s definitely someone I love in this moment! And he has the authority to cut through a lot of red tape, which is helpful! I love how the teacher culture and relations to students are depicted in this show - the conversations are SO applicable to a world I’m constantly involved in! 🙂Thank you so much for the comment!

You know what? We needed a Hina-focused episode, even if I did miss Rei. The animation in this show is truly outstanding. I loved every single frame and just the weight that they added to each moment. I felt as if I was living this personally. A little animation detail that I liked to see through this whole debacle is how we see those drained, dry, drooping flowers at the beginning of the bullying arc, and back then they were vibrant beautiful flowers, and then repeatedly we've been shown how they have withered as things got progressively worse; it was a very neat visual to have through the whole thing, and having them framing the teacher losing it was just the cherry on top for that. Just a little visual cue to the disarray and neglect that the whole class went through. Oh, the teacher having a mental break-down was *a moment*. I'll admit to feeling sympathy for her to a degree. Yes, dealing with preteens and teens can be draining, as someone who leads a group of them I know just a wee bit of it, and the nature of growing up is that they will be a little unbearable at times and don't know how to properly and healthily deal with their hormones, frustrations, and the different situations in their lives and thus resort to bad habits and attitudes. That can be a lot. And I can't imagine how draining it would become after years of it. BUT, yeah, she should have looked into what to do with those situations as the responsible thing to do because as their teacher, the adult responsible for them, you are signing up to guide them; if she didn't feel up to that task, then she should have looked into a different career or teaching a different age bracket before she continued to let these kids just try and resolved situations they are not equipped for. So my sympathy also only goes so far. I am glad she ended up getting the care she needed, and I hope she finds something that makes her happy to do in the future, but it's nice she is out of Hina's class. Hina was AMAZING! The way she stood up for herself was so rewarding and showed all her grit. Something I just loved about Hina's determination to not let the bullying affect her is that she came to that conclusion on her own. Often, I feel, the advice to bullying is to just ignore them as to not give them the satisfaction, and then they'll move on; and while that is probably true it's also frustrating when you're dealing with the situation and living it. Hina was never told that, she was never patronized, and thus her deciding to do it all the same feels all that much more meaningful to me. I absolutely loved Akari as well! Sure, she shocked a little when talking to the mom and couldn't live to her own expectations of herself, BUT she has been giving Hina the most important thing all along, the support, reassurance, and strength to not let this be her whole life and that has made all the difference. That is what made Hina able to rise above it and be so incredibly kind regardless, that strength, that support; and I love that we have both instances in this episode, we see Akari encouraging Hina with food, Akari's love language and taking care of her like that, and then we see her going to the parent-teacher conference. After having talked so much, I haven't even touched on this new teacher XD I just love him. He's actually doing something and for that alone he is great *lol* but he actually seems like he knows what he's doing and just inspires confidence; which in situations like this can be half the battle won. You know what I want? I want Hina to move to Rei's high school and have Hayashida as her teacher *lol* Last thing I wanted to say, Hina helping the teacher find her papers was such a good moment and showed her kindness so well; because I wouldn't have blamed her for being bitter towards her after she basically blamed this whole thing on her and not wanting to help or, at least, not helping with the good spirit and cheer she did.

This whole bullying issue shows how harmful the Japanese norm of "Deru kugi wa utareru" can be. Meaning "The nail that sticks out will be hit. It is because of that cultural mentality Hina's original Homeroom teacher tried desparatly to ignore the problem. Without any proof she feared that if she would try to do something about it she would be the one that get's punished ultimatly. After seeing the scene with Takagi's mother we can see that this fear was quite serious and real. I don't know if most people notice it, but the whole comment about Akari and Hina better not making any "waves" without any proof was a indirect thread to Akari she would be sued for defamation if they make the issue any bigger. This was the kind of stuff Hina's Homeroom teacher was scared about for herself if she would do something against the problem. On the other hand, while Kokoubu Sensei is behaving like a clear chad here, not accepting any bs from Takagi's mother about the issue is also in a very different position here. He is the Head Teacher of the school, basically the principles right hand man. So through that positions he firstly acts as direct representative of the school, he is in a position of authority and he also has also expierence and knowledge about the legalities. He is nobody that gets easily threatened by one complaining mother. A shame Hina's Homeroom teacher was so scared of sticking out that she didn't look for help from him.
