RUN WITH THE WIND: Novel Reaction - PART ONE!

COMMENTS ON THE NOVEL! YAY! I’m glad you have a hard copy as well! The Haiji and Kakeru scenes in this novel’s opening chapter had so much romantic imagery - I love it! Miura’s style of writing is really beautiful, I agree!! It definitely brings me back to the anime! Yeah, Haiji is such an unintentional (or intentional) flirt! The sandals sound like they would NOT be comfortable; my feet can be sensitive, so I would probably hate them! I agree, I love the description of the Chikuseisou and it makes the epilogue so much more convincing as well! That is really cool about your tour of Nijou castle and the Nightingale flooring! That also sounds…very noisy! But then, that’s the point! Wild! Thank you for all the information on that! I can’t imagine all those boys on that flooring all the time! That scene where we meet Yuki and Nico-senpai is so iconic! And Kakeru being perceptive and trying Musa’s advice despite his initial thoughts is a nice way to show that deep down Kakeru is open-minded. I really like how the novel explores dialects and all that as well! That is interesting about the Northern Ireland and Belfast parts as well! Thank you for that information and for the comment! 😀<3

FINALLY!!! I now have some time to watch and slowly catch up whilst reading along with my own copy. Haiji thinking he'd like to see and shooting star, and then his shooting star being closer and within reach in the form of Kakeru 🥰🥺 But I was not prepared for the romantic imagery of Haji chasing Kakeru...this novel may kill me if the descriptions keep up like this. I'm already in love with Miura's style of writing. The way they describe the scenery and describe the sounds Kakeru can hear paints such a vivid picture. I don't know if it's because I've seen the anime, or been to Japan and wandered similar streets in the dark, but I can clearly imagine Kakeru pounding along the road, his thoughts darkening like the night around him 🥺 Oooh I've seen those acupressure sandals and they do NOT look comfy to me at all, but maybe that's just because my feet are one area of my body sensitive to any kind of pressure 😅 Haiji maybe introduce yourself before feeling up a stranger's muscles. And Kakeru, a (potential) pervert feeling up your legs should be worth more than one measly drink from a vending machine. Just saying 🤣 The continuing questioning of how Chikuseisou is still standing really helps make the epilogue of the anime make more sense, with them all gathering three years after their Hakone Ekiden because their home during that time was schedule to be demolished. Interesting that Kakeru describes the stairs being like a nightingale floor (the floors in old castles and temples). I did a wheelchair-accessible tour of Nijou Castle, that still has a nightingale flooring. The floor is rigged so that when someone steps on it it makes a noise, almost like the floor is singing/chirping like a bird. It was commonly used as a security system to alert the residents of the castle or temple that there was a visitor/intruder. If I remember correctly they're made by creating a space between the floorboard and the beam they lie across with clamps holding the floorboards up. When you step on them the clamps depress and the nails attached to the clamps and floor beams rub against the clamps as they move up and down with the weight of a person walking over them. Its from the nails rubbing against the clamps that the noise is then produced. I don't know when they were first created in Japan, but I do remember that Nijou Castle was built in the 17th Century (so sometime in the 1600s). It's a pretty incredible security system for something so old. As much as I adore Yuki and Nico-senpai I do have to agree with Kakeru that their fight being your first introduction of the two, alongside the loud music and swirls of tobacco smoke, would definitely put you off wanting to get closer to either 🤣 I find it so interesting that even whilst he thinks of Musa as a weirdo Kakeru takes his advice and tries bathing in the dark his first night in Chikuseisou. For Shindou continually asking if Musa knows certain words in Japanese makes me think of some anime where characters speak in, for example, Kansai-ben or Okinawa hougen. Some such dialects can be hard for even natural-born Japanese to decipher the meaning of the colloquial words and phrases used. It does make me think of some of my friends here in Northern Ireland who have only ever been around people from Belfast and so have a lot of difficulty understanding the different accents from other parts of Northern Ireland, to the point that I was elected the main speaker and translator for our friend group when we did day trips outside of the capital city 🤣
