Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind: Movie Reaction! PATREON EXCLUSIVE!

 **DYSTOPIAN HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

I was BLOWN AWAY (figuratively but maybe literally too) by how much I loved this movie! This is definitely Ghibli standard of emotional, fun, and the animation is fantastic too - give me that 80's dystopian goodness!

Oh, a strong female protagonist? Oh, a badass mentor swordsman? Oh, an environmental message we're still not getting as humans? *nervous laughter* This movie was a blast and I'm still thinking about it! I hope you enjoy the reaction and discussion!

I love stories of how we interact with our grandparents - that is so amazing that you had a grandfather that taught you a lesson like that - the imagery of your story; I can picture it! I would read a book about those experiences! I definitely hate seeing dead animals; I feel for me, it was farm life where you had to witness animals pass that made me have disdain for it. But yeah, it’s wild how memories formed from our childhood carry with us like that! Oh yeah, my brain didn’t register the bug blood until towards the end! Haha, And ahhh, thank you for that info on Mononoke! And thank you for the information on Naussica! Oh wow, I didn’t realize this was just a third of the story - I will have to add that to my manga list now! 😀 AND DARKER!? Interesting!! I definitely agree that the message is important! But yeah, I definitely felt that twinge of guilt while watching - it’s been so long since this came out, but have we learned? Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! Yes, onward to December!

When I was a child, maybe around 7 or 8 I visited my grandparents who lived in the desert. My grandfather was scary to me. He did not speak English at all and I was told that he was a very mystical person. I am partly indigenous and he was fully indigenous and my dad rebelled against his heritage. Therefore I don’t know that much about my grandfather. So I was bored one day and found myself in the backyard. It struck me how blue the sky was against the mountains and against the sand. I found a stick and started to dig a hole in the ground. When I was digging, I accidentally dug up a moth pupae. I was fascinated by it. Poking at it with my stick I killed it. My grandfather saw what I did and yelled at me for killing this living thing. I was horrified and scared to death! It made an impression on me for sure. To this day, I will go out of my way to save wasps. In fact. I’m pretty good at catching them! Thanks grandfather I guess? It’s really the only memory of my grandfather I have. Well, I do remember him taking me shopping in the market to buy fruit and goods from street vendors in Mexico. So that’s a good memory. So when did her dress turn blue? When the blood soaked her dress. Hahaha, as I typed this, you figured it out. The movie Princess Mononoke was released in 1997. Naussica is from Greek mythology. The name means: Burner of ships. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nausicaa in the manga, this name makes more sense. This movie is maybe a little over a third of the story. When I first saw this movie it was pretty badly butchered. This version is a lot better than the one I originally saw. The manga! The manga is sooooooooo much more involved. I absolutely won’t tell you about it because it is a must read. It is also a lot darker than this movie was. So did I buy this for my 15 yr old niece a few years ago for Christmas? I sure did! I thought it was that important of a message for a young girl who will inherit a world that is in the middle of the sixth mass extinction of earth to read. To this day, I don’t know if she read it. Oh well. Most of humanity is bumbling towards annihilation as we speak. Will we ever learn! Sorry, went a bit doomer there…. Great review as always and I’m looking forward to Decembers movie! 🍿☺️

F.Y.I. Hideaki Anno directed a short film titled "Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo," which dipicted the incipient event of Seven Days of Fire. In Japan, it was the double feature movie with "Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo."

iHatePiano

Our favorite lunatic, Hideaki Anno worked on this movie. He helped draw the part where the God Warrior fires the laser.

Lynden

Hideaki Anno himself animated the Giant Warrior's attack sequence, so Evangelion comparisons are v.apt.
