Land of the Lustrous: Episode 2 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*SHINY AND SLIMY HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

OKAY, SO. I haven't been rocked by this much exposition and character "development" in a good little while!

New characters that I am FANGIRLING like crazy over, mystery upon mystery everywhere with the world building, and you did WHAT with the main character in EPISODE 2?! I thought Madoka Magica was insane! Let's talk about this!

Be Happy

This series is going hard (no pun intended) and fast, for sure! I am also really excited about learning about minerals and gems - it feels like grade school again! 😀 And YES, the shows I’ve watched on the channel make me question every male figure of authority in fiction, hahaha! I do like his design and he seems to be…okay…maybe. Maybe I just need to go easier on him, but he IS mysterious! You’ve seen MC’s die on the FIFTH EPISODE - I don’t want to know which shows those are, but that is wild! I agree, though, the world is really interesting and there’s so many directions this story could go! And yes, it does have this ageless, timeless feeling as well; I love it! Also, Bortz and Diamond are such a pairing and I love them, but yes, Bortz harder than Diamonds? They need to get on advertising that! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I’m so excited for where this series will go!

Romaniablack

Thank you for explaining that! I do feel sad for Phos and Cinnabar, who are finding themselves at odds and not of as much “value” as their fellow gems. I want to give them both the biggest hugs! Thank you so much for the comment!

Romaniablack

Yesss, I will have figured this out by Episode 3, but thank you. ;) Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Honestly, I believe it's apples and oranges; I'm *barely* into ether series, so I don't want to make comparisons yet or think it would be fair to, but am enjoying both a lot! Thanks for the comment!

Gosh, I had forgotten how fast and hard this series goes. I had never done deeper searches about any of the things presented in the show, so I'm enjoying a lot seeing all these facts you're finding about gemstones XD Look, to me, watching so much anime has made me almost immediately distrust leadership figures... and Adamant is, to his disgrace (or not, who knows) in a leadership position *lol* But I do really like his design! I like how he does look so apart and different from the gemstones, and it just helps with the vibe that he is in charge; it's an easy visual to get, and pretty effective. Phos getting pretty much disintegrated by that slug *on the second episode* is truly a new record. I've seen MCs die on the fifth episode, but the second one is a new record. This world is so interesting. There's so much inherent potential everywhere, including the characters; and it's so similar to ours, but yet so distinctly different. I quite like it. And the theme of pursuing knowledge is pretty organic, and it brings this ageless, timeless feel to the world itself that fits really well with this long-lived gemstone organisms. When Bortz was first introduced to me, back when I first watched this series, I was *flabbergasted* that there was a gemstone harder than Diamond. I felt somewhat betrayed because I always thought diamonds were the hardest stones in the world... not that Bortz isn't a kind of diamond, so that continues being true, but I was still really aghast. P.S. It's honestly being a hot second since I watched this show, and getting to rewatch it alongside you is proving to be very fun.

I actually think when phos said “can’t live with them or without them” they’re referring to Cinnabar’s relationship with the entire community, considering Cinnabar is effectively contemplating suicide over not being able to live among the rest. That, and Phos not really having a similar relationship to whats happening with the Diamonds

Flippnote

All mollusks need dissolved calcium carbonate to harden their shells. Now phosphates can dissolve the shells, so it’s the opposite from what happened. This is such a large snail that the gastric juices have dissolved Phos instead! I’m just guessing that it happened because it’s such a big snail and a tiny Phos! I just love all the questions you are asking! They really do pack in a lot of info in these 12 episodes! These episodes give me the warm fuzzies. 😊

I love Dororo, but it just can't compare to Land of the Lustrous. Actually few can, it was just unfortunate that it came out at the same time as Made in Abyss and it was overshadowed by it. Also being a full CGI anime didn't help since a lot of people never gave it a chance.
