Madara is injured from the encounter with Matoba and Natsume is left to his own devices -- which leads to Culture Festival Shenanigans to unfold at his school!
This episode, focusing on Natsume trying to balance his friendships with his knowledge of Yokai -- it was heartwarming as always but with an extra twinge of angsty foreshadowing! Also, Madara being cuddly is the BEST!

I agree, Natsume’s friends getting onto him because they are worried and cuddly Madara were JUST the right kick of serotonin for me! I love these characters CARING for Natsume! That’s a great point about the angles and ways in which Natsume reacts and tries to do “checks and balances” on everything! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I agree that it is definitely in the “healing” genre of anime. 🥰 Moments I loved in this episode: Natsume’s friends being consistently grumpy because they are worried about him getting hurt all the time; cuddly!Madara; everyone checking in on Natsume in the end. But especially I loved the presentation and structure of scenes: the constant switching between perspectives, and the playing with context – because everything Natsume experiences is so different. And I think this episode is an interesting view of cognitive and mental load: Natsume has to keep a track of what is going on from 3 different angles (at least) at all moments in time – 1. knowing that whatever is happening could be yokai related, 2. behaving in a way that raises the least suspicion AND resolves the problem + keeps people and yokai safe, and 3. try to just exist ‘normally.’ That is truly A Lot. 😭 Looking forward to next week! 💙
