RUN WITH THE WIND: Novel Reaction PART FOUR!

*TRACKING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Ooohhh oh ho ho, I am LIVING for the banter between Kakeru and Haiji, as we go from practice to our first track meet and our boys try to get their times under 17 minutes. This is the best section so far and we're not even halfway through the book!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

RUN WITH THE WIND: Novel Reaction PART FOUR!

Comments

Sorry to get back so late to these comments! Haiji’s coaching is such a joy to see in this series and the twins’ differences in the novel especially are really a nice bonus on top of how they are in the anime. Kakeru has SO MUCH dimension in the novel compared to the anime; it always amazes me. And seeing him struggle to break his habits in this chapter was really good as well. I can see why they cut out the IC points in the anime; it’s definitely an added layer of stress! That said, aspects like with the uniform, I am glad with how the series did that in the anime. And I agree, the anime handles them meeting their times a bit more realistically, at least at the start like this. And yes, Totei does remind me of Shiratorizawa, though Fujioka’s team has the purple colors to match it! But yeah, Sakaki just doesn’t measure up to Ushijima or Kise! But with Fujioka, yeah, after the anime, I can’t picture him any other way… Nira’s reaction to Haiji is so adorable and yes, Kakeru and Haiji as dog parents! I just love their interactions together in this novel! And yesssss, Haiji as the flame in his heart?! LOVE IT SO MUCH! And that analogy with driving? AHEM. *coughs* ;) I just love how Haiji and Kakeru motivate and push each other forward in this chapter, like at the race. And that greeting at the end? Yes, please! The twins’ supporting of Prince was so cute! I agree, the parts with the novel are better than the anime in some respects, but I do enjoy the anime’s added moments like you mentioned as well! Thank you so much for the comment!

Absolutely love that Haiji is such an attentive coach in differentiating how he interacts with all the runners based on what works for him best. Its definitely the markings of him being a very good coach, who is also highly observant in what his teammates like/prefer. Also definitely agree on making the twins so different from the beginning is a great thing. Too many times in fiction do I see identical twins having the same personality and likes as they do features. And that's just not true to reality, at least from the twins I've known. Kakeru knowing himself well enough to know he wasn't ready to see his ex-teammates gives a different dimension to how the anime showed him running away from so much in his life. I think because we got the introduction of Sakaki while they were still training, and well before the track meets, we didn't get to see this side of Kakeru 🥺 The information about the IC points definitely adds a whole other confusing and stressful layer to our boys' chances to run in the Hakone Ekiden. Nira's reaction to Haiji's approach (wagging his tail far more furiously) is just adorable. Also firmly planting the imagery of Kakeru and Haiji as dog parents together 😆 All the more with Kakeru knowing who exactly was approaching him in that moment 🥰 Haiji giving Kakeru the time and silence to talk first, and then giving him those lines about not getting distracted by his past and just run and be stronger (especially the latter with that moment from Haiji that the biggest compliment you can give a runner is that they're strong 🥺)...yeah the novel is just trying to make us love him so much more, isn't it? 🤣 Oh I'm done. Haiji being the flame in Kakeru's heart to ignite his passion and hope again, whilst curbing his anxieties and fears? 🥺 The shipper in me is just melting into a puddle of feelings. Giggling at the idea of bad drivers being bad in bed. That is definitely not a line I've ever heard before 😆 But yeah I can agree with you that maybe Haiji just hasn't found the dynamic he would like most/be best in, and that's where Kakeru can come in 🤣 (pun not intended 🤭) Oooh an interesting change that their first track meet they already have uniforms. Honestly I do prefer how the anime did that part. Mostly because it honestly feels realistic to them lacking funds or proper uniforms with the university given Kansei University hasn't had a track club in several years. The description of Totei's multiple buildings dedicated to sport makes me think of two other sports anime schools: Shiratorizawa from Haikyuu!! and Kaijou from Kuroko no Basuke 🤣 As much as Sakaki might want I'm afraid he just doesn't give me the same energy as Ushijima or Kise. That moment of Haiji telling Kakeru to pay back Sakaki's insult in the race kind of reminds me of after Sakaki goaded Kakeru about their shared past and almost hit him, Haiji did this fake ass grin and reminded Sakaki that he wouldn't get to race them at the ekiden unless he managed to become a starting member. Haiji is definitely not one to take such insults, especially towards the team he's put together and helped overcome so much! 🥺 The difference in Fujioka's appearance is definitely interesting. I honestly don't know if I could picture him in the anime looking like a monk 🤔 The description though has made me think of anime Fujioka but with Haikyuu!! Tanaka's haircut/style...😑 Honestly it is shocking for so many of them to hit their needed times in just the first track meet. Normally an anime has to condense novel material for it to work with the medium, but here they've expanded on the track meets and that anticipation of each runner managing to finally hit their target. Considering their lack of experience in such a sport I do have to say I find the way the anime portrayed it a lot more realistic. Completely agree that Kakeru needs to be more supportive of his classmates rather than having the same thoughts as what Sakaki said. However I do think that it shows the mindset that was encouraged at their previous school that both of them think in a very similar fashion about Prince's race. And it really shows how difficult it is to break away from such a mindset that has been engrained into you over several years. I just adore how everyone (except Kakeru) is so supportive of Prince's efforts 🥺 But the twins specifically getting him a manga magazine in celebration is just far too sweet! Oooh that "Welcome home/I'm back" (which in Japanese would be "Okaeri!" "Tadaima!") I do see so much in anime and manga for families/people living together, but more so for romantic lovers greeting each other 🥰 My shipper heart is definitely taking this moment to be one of the latter 😆 But hmmm, that means we don't get Hana's awful cooking or Kakeru getting to play coach with Prince and their bonding experience over manga.
