Our sweet golden retriever of a man - Lihaku - is nervous about the Princess of the brothel Pairin being contracted away, so who else does he turn to for help but MaoMao?!
This episode revealed some wild things about MaoMao's past but what was WILDER was Jinshi's jealousy at MaoMao and Lihaki hanging out without him -- and how he decides to remedy that! This episode was HILARIOUS!

Oh, thank you so much! I got that sweater when I was in NYC this summer at a local market and I’m glad it’s finally the right weather to wear it! 😀 The emperor’s mother seems to be…very Cixi like perhaps? She definitely comes across a little merciless. I love the doctor’s backstory getting revealed here and feel for him trying to protect his sister! And yes, MaoMao would rather folks figure it out on their own, but their relationship has grown so much! That’s why in the discussion I talked about colostrum; with the cattle we raise, colostrum is vital for them to grow healthy, so I was a little concerned with that, but maybe MaoMao got some of that before she was passed onto Pairin, considering her “antibodies” to poison and overall health. You can tell the three princesses, particularly Pairin, are important to MaoMao and MaoMao as the ultimate wingwoman!! 😀I love the growth of her and Lihaku’s relationship as well. And Lihaku just wanting to work harder to gain her love rather than being jealous? We love to see it! The show just knows the right timing! At least Jinshi’s jealousy didn’t get the best of him! Also, the evolution of Apothecary to “my cat” and “my attendant.” AHEM, SIR. And while MaoMao wasn’t there (I think)? Hm. Gaoshu is SHUDDERING. Lihaku really pulled out a Hua Cheng on that one with Jinshi insulting him, but NOT Pairin! I love Lihaku so much! He’s such a great guy - Pairin should be so lucky! How dare they tease us with Lakan, too! I agree with the theme of the episode…maybe…appropriate as we’re about to study Lakan. ;) But also I need a crossover with MaoMao and Riko examining their “muscles!” 😀Thank you for the comment!

MaoMao evaluating Lihaku was just hilarious - I need to clearly check out the dub while waiting on Season 2 -- And man -- Lihaku sticking up for Pairin and his love for her against Jinshi is insanely amusing! Seeing MaoMao evaluate Lihaku's body and give him her appraisal of Pairin's buyout price and his reactions to both are so great. For me it was even better in the dub - when MaoMao is going over the long list of Pairin's traits to prepare him for her sky-high price, she finishes with "There's no denying she has a lustful appetite, but her maternal side equally matches it." And then Lihaku quickly responds without a second's hesitation "So she's perfect, your point?" haha, the delivery is so on point, it gets me every time! And Lihaku's interaction with Jinshi - he is just the sweetest! Won't take a shortcut and wants to respect her wishes above his own desires to marry her.

2024-12-04 21:20:54 +0000 UTCLove your Corgi jumper! So cute. Once again we learn something related to the characters we know who were negatively affected by the previous emperor's mother. Previously it was said that Luomen was made a eunuch because of her, and our little doctor here had troubled times because of the inability to use trees to create paper, leading to him also become a eunuch. But it's so sweet he was willing to go in order to protect his younger sister 🥺 I do love the doctor did so well to not blab several times about his family's secret to making the high quality paper only to fall at that final hurdle 🤣 But Maomao is such a good sport to just pretend it never happened. These scenes with them are a fantastic way to show just how their relationship has progressed from that first day Gaoshun brought Maomao to the doctor's place. I also love that she didn't outright tell the doctor what the issue with the papermaking process was, but rather nudged him towards the right direction...or at least tried to 😂 I did giggle at you questioning if it's physically possible to lactate without ever having been pregnant and the conveniency of it all. Yet more knowledge in my head is that there is a kink for drinking milk from the breast, and some sex workers that have the same ability as Pairin do charge extra for such a service. Also in the time of nobles having a wet nurse to nurse their child, not all wet nurses were mothers to begin with. A small number are believed to have had the right combination of hormones/issues with the pituitary gland in them to be able to lactate without ever falling pregnant. I believe the only thing is that Pairin wouldn't have been able to produce colostrum; the first milk some mothers produce that is considered to be important for a newborn to drink to help pass on some antibodies and a good source of protein (I say "some mothers" because there are some who are unable to lactate for various reasons). I adore though how seriously Maomao takes the question of the possibility of Lihaku buying out Pairin. It didn't just show the progression of their friendship to me, but also showed how much Maomao cares for Pairin. Felt very similar to when I've 'vetted' some people as potential significant others for my friends 😆 I absolutely adore how besotted and devoted Lihaku is to Pairin. And, even after Maomao mentioning the two customers most likely to buy her off he didn't become jealous or negatively react to the knowledge. Instead he kept his focus on what he needed to do to be worthy enough to buy Pairin out, and to be better than those two customers. Maomao: Master Lihaku, could you take of your clothes? Romania: If Jinshi walked in and saw this he'd think the worst! Me: 👀 I think it would have been a final blow to Jinshi if Maomao hadn't been straightforward with her analysis of Lihaku's body. The previous part of their conversation was already painful enough for him. But her being able to analyse Lihaku's training and part of his personality based solely on his body is a very good way to pull out Jinshi's curiosity over his jealous side 😂 Pretty sure this is the first time Jinshi hasn't referred to Maomao as "Kusuriya/Apothecary" and instead called her "my attendant" and "my cat". I really relate with Lihaku thinking that Jinshi can insult him all he likes, but Pairin is a no-go area and should not receive any kind of condemnation, especially any negative remarks about her work. And that he doesn't just want to buy Pairin out, he wants to take her as his wife, but only if she's willing! (Consent, thy name is Lihaku!) This, above all, I think really shows what a great character Lihaku has 🥺 Also that declaration of his love for Pairin to Jinshi? Yes please! 🥰😍 They're really just teasing you with that ending of Lakan and "Blue roses" 🤭 I do think this show does a great job of making you realise first impressions can cause you to make fast judgements. Like you say with the doctor it's so easy to write him off as a coward at the start of the series only for you to learn a little bit of what he's actually gone through, and the choices he's had to make in life. The same sort of thing happens with Lihua. The way she's first presented gives a completely different vibe to who we see her to be after Maomao helps her recover from the effects of the white face powder. Totally imagining Maomao and Riko having a "muscle showdown": try to analyse as many people just by their muscles in a set period of time 🤣
