OH, this chapter set had my shipping heart ABLAZE! Our crew heads to the mountains to train for the summer camp and while it is more intense than the anime led us to believe, there are SO many little moments with the twins and Kakeru AND Haiji and Kakeru that have me REELING!

Ooohhhh, that makes a lot of sense with the air conditioning! I think I’m definitely spoiled by A/C, so it would be an adjustment without it for SURE! That is good to know about Japan getting chilly! I will have to pack a jacket or some layers when I go! Hahaha, Prince has the right ideas with his manga necessity! And yeah, if I’m on a road trip, I need something to read or look at for the journey! It is funny that Haiji only gets better at driving in the book! 😛 And *ahem* Kakeru pondering that about Haiji and his sexual technique – BOOK! Seriously?! I am here for any of the domesticity between them, for sure! And Kakeru thinking of Haiji as strong already is such a huge thing! I love how these two view each other in both the novel and anime! I also love Kakeru being the one to reign in Haiji - they keep each other in check! And PROTECTIVE Haiji against Sakaki?! I think this would have set the anime over the edge, haha!! I love the growth these two do in the presence of each other - the SHIPPING! I have to say, I’ve been in Kakeru’s shoes of over-worrying about someone when I don’t hear from them, especially family! I wonder if they made her younger to distance the romance in the anime between Hana and Kakeru/the Twins as well – I am hopeful that the name moment means Kakeru’s not into girls - I don’t want this book to steer us anywhere but from Kakeru and Haiji together! But yeah, Kakeru’s over here like, “Why aren’t the twins getting with Hana?” While Haiji seems determined to make sure Kakeru’s not interested in her…or so it seems? 😛 I like the idea that we never know which one she likes in the anime; the mystery is so fun - but it does appear she’s into both of them in this novel? Which, you go, girl! Hahaha!! But yes, the soft conversation between Haiji and Kakeru just SENT ME! I like that we get two different versions of Haiji and Kakeru talking between the source material and the adaptation! Thank you for the comment!

2025-03-13 16:13:28 +0000 UTCIn the UK at least because our houses are mostly brick houses they retain heat in the winter and can stay cool in the summer so I believe that's why we've never had air conditioning outside of shopping centres and some shops/stores. But with Global Warming and the increase of temperatures and humidity a lot more people now own their own electric fans. When I was younger though such an item would definitely have been seen more as a commodity rather than a necessity. I have travelled to countries where I have been greatly appreciative that they have air conditioning and I cannot imagine how it feels when the air conditioning doesn't work. I'd definitely be like a puddle on the ground 😂 I relate so much to Prince's priority for the training camp packing: what manga will I bring? 🤣 Always a must for me when going away anywhere. Especially if there's a long travel time as its usually easier for me to get sucked into a good book/manga than to try to watch something. And then any down time when you're at the place is just prime reading time 😁 Definitely know what Musa means about it being cool in the day but chilly at night. Both times I was in Japan the temperatures were pleasant (for me and my Dad) during the day time, but then between 5 and 7 o'clock at night the temperature would just suddenly plummet. Never got to freezing temperatures but the difference in temperature was definitely shocking. Haiji's improving driving skills are definitely book-only 🤣 I still remember all their reactions in the anime to him speeding over the bumpy terrain as they headed to this training retreat. Kakeru pondering about Haiji's sexual technique/ability DEFINITELY wasn't on my bingo card for this novel!!! 😲 But I am here for it and all the domesticity between the two of them 🥺🥰 I absolutely love that in the novel Kakeru already thinks of Haiji as strong. And that he thinks this after they've already talked about the best compliment a runner can receive is to be called strong rather than fast 🥺 All I can think though with his thoughts that following Haiji will let him "see something new that shines bright in the dark" is at the end of Haiji's race when Kakeru is tearing up and all he can see is the golden light surrounding Haiji as he runs towards the blue light Kakeru emits. Its making me want to tear up! 🥺 Yuki taking sneak shots of Kakeru was also not on my bingo card 😆 But damn, Kakeru being the one to calm and reign in Haiji's annoyance/anger? Interesting 😍 Also protective Haiji telling Sakaki he won't let him hurt or disturb Kakeru? 🥺 "The warmth never left his body" has to be one of the most romantic and sweetest things I've read after someone has been protected by a person they care about. Also his learning to say thank you instead of sorry in such a situation feels like it links a lot back to the learned negative behaviours and habits he has from the previous team he was on. 'Turns out they hadn't been struck by lightning, and their charred remains weren't lying on the side of the road.' Kakeru methinks you might be over-worrying with that being a possibility for why the twins were missing 😆 That's one way for the twins to reunite with Hana-chan 😅 But yeah I can definitely see why the anime skipped out on this bit. Though in the anime we did get everyone have stomach issues when Hana-chan cooked for them whilst Haiji was sleeping off his fatigue. But Kakeru's thoughts on Hana's name firmly cements that he is not into girls at all 😂 Very interesting though that the novel has her being the same age as Kakeru, Joji, and Jota. In the anime she's still in High School (I think a year younger than the three of them). I wonder if the anime made this change so as they had reason for not portraying more romance between Hana-chan and the twins. Totally agree that this novel ain't being subtle with Kakeru thinking about the obliviousness of the twins as a disapproving Haiji sits next to him 😆🥰 So many moments of them not being subtle at all in regards to Kakeru and Haiji not being attracted to Hana-chan! Oh my god, I was right that she liked them both?? 😲 As much as I do like finally knowing, honestly I think I prefer the anime with Hana-chan getting asked by Musa and confiding in him during the ekiden. But they definitely should have let Musa tell the others, and us the audience, in the after credits scene who she liked. I do like the soft conversation between Kakeru and Haiji below the tree though, which we did kind of getting with the balcony scene beneath the stars. But the novel's conversation is definitely a bit more direct than the anime.
