I am very sorry for the furious, frustrated, and heartbroken mess I was with Chapter 89. It's just...not healthy, y'all. And I'm about up to my neck with the lack of communication and how Shen QingQiu is just catering to whatever Luo Binghe wants, half out of guilt for LBH's trauma and half out of his own insecurities.
Chapter 90 was a little better, but I have not been so frustrated in a pairing for a while - MXTX, just let these two back off of sexual interactions and get to know each other more, first, please!
NOTE: I have read ahead, and so far, each chapter set has been better than the last, so YAY! This was really hard to read, especially when the prior chapter set hinted at progress. So I apologize for my anger and sadness this week! Here's to better days ahead!

Ahhh, thank you for offering your comment for this chapter set! It was rough, indeed. I can definitely see the “blurring” of lines being a thing with SVSSS because there are parts of this book that are SO explicitly explained and yet some that have NO additional information and with a fandom so engraved in the “extra” fan fiction material as well, I can see how things would get confusing. Even some arguments about how characters are have left me like, “Is that what the story really presents them as? Or has your experience with fanon warped that?” I love the concept of MBJ as Simon! ;) I definitely think the order you read MXTX’s works, especially TGCF vs. SVSSS affect what you’re more accepting of in terms of plot and the romance. Exactly! Yessss, that’s a great point about how real people react to “fanon” ships of them. I like the idea of MXTX exploring tropes and seeing what worked in the extras and what she’d expand on in future stories. The wine bottle is just…oof. 100% agree that SQQ being in pain and not like the “ballads” that LBH have read make this hard to read for me. And YES, if SQQ talked about being a masochist out loud to LBH, and specifically said he WANTED that, and it was established with their dynamic? I wouldn’t have been upset at all. And yes, I see what you mean about the Given comparison, but at least from there – Akihiko felt horrible and worked hard to redeem himself…has LBH done that? Well, no. And it’s definitely not safe or completely consensual here, so it’s a no-go for me. Honestly, that reaction was the most emotional and upset I’ve EVER been reacting on this channel. Ever. I can’t recall being more upset, though Berserk came close. But yes, if they just TALKED it out and explained to one another, that would be great! Solve so many problems! Yesss, taking some time off help and then I will say, the chapters from here on in each week have gotten better and better! I think if I wasn’t doing a channel, I would have stopped, but I am glad I kept reading, though reading ahead has helped me be able to take off more breaks to keep some mental checks. I agree, there are worse than LBH, but it’s been a while since I’ve been this invested in a main character like SQQ, so I just wanted the best for him, and didn’t think LBH was giving his best in return. And YES, Romeo and Juliet is really Shakespeare being like, “Look at these boops!” That’s very interesting about Go Away Romeo! Thank you for the suggestion! Thank you for the comment and kind words! This is a rough set 🫂 Definitely agree with you that we do see a progression in Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's work with how she expands upon certain parts where she didn't go into more detail in this first novel. Like she does leave it to our imagination of what exactly Wei Wuxian suffered when Wen Chao threw him into the Burial Mounds without a core, but there are little moments and comments made that readers can pick up on as potentially relating to what happened to him. There are also some pretty vivid descriptions of what the Burial Mounds are like. Whereas we don't get that for Luo Binghe and the Abyss. The fandom has expanded on Wei Wuxian's experience in the Burial Mounds to the point I have seen some people confuse fanon with canon in regards to Wei Wuxian not eating meat because of what he ate when stuck in the Burial Mounds. But there definitely isn't the same blurring of lines between fanon and canon in either MDZS or TGCF as there is within the fandom for SVSSS. I think some of the blame for this is because Mo Xiang Tong Xiu left so much more open to interpretation or expansion in SVSSS in comparison to the other two, but also the lack of other media forms that give their own spin on certain parts of the novels like we have for MDZS and TGCF. Mobei-jun as Simon for the colour blue but also as the tallest of the three 🤣 I'm glad my comments have made you feel validated about your opinions. I really think because I read the books in the same order as you it does make it harder to accept some plot points used in this story, just because we have seen how well Mo Xiang Tong Xiu can execute good, healthy, adult relationships. I have to say that Shen Qingqiu's reaction to the fan-made content regarding his and Luo Binghe's relationship does make me think of some talk shows where they show actor(s) fanart or other content for a character they've played or a canon (or more typically a fanon) ship. There are some that definitely have similar reactions to Shen Qingqiu, which is completely understandable when they're shown such explicit content. Then there are others (*coughs* Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart, or James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender *coughs*) who really play on it and try to have a bit more fun with such content made by their fans 🤣 I will say creating these scenes between Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe as being fictional stories within the SVSSS universe does make me think this part of the extra chapters may also have been Mo Xiang Tong Xiu way of exploring other tropes within BL stories, and seeing what worked with her style of writing and what didn't. Though then she went a step further with then having Luo Binghe want to do all that he did to Shen Qingqiu (*to* not *with* because Shen Qingqiu giving in rather than being a willing participant means I can't say that they did all that as a couple). But I feel like reading this after they'd just started communicating better can make it a hard read for some readers and feel like she's taken three steps back from getting Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe's relationship to the same way that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji and Xie Lian and Hua Cheng's relationships are by this point in their stories. Definitely no need to apologise for how this made you feel, especially in regards to the dynamic being portrayed between Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe 🫂 And yes, I've heard enough stories from A&E workers (ER workers in America) about people inserting things that should never be inserted. A wine bottle would definitely be up there on that list. Like you said Shen Qingqiu is clearly in pain from this moment and doesn't take away the same feelings when reading the Regret of Chunshan like Luo Binghe has, and that's what makes it hard to support this scene and their relationship where it is currently at. Now if Shen Qingqiu talked or thought about being a masochist and a willing partner in the acts Luo Binghe does to him, I wouldn't have the same issues with it. Not my kink but I do understand there are people who prefer to feel pain (sometimes alongside pleasure) when being sexually intimate with their partner. But Shen Qingqiu's actions and thoughts, and Luo Binghe's continuance, shows that this act is not safe or completely consensual (I can accept the consent part as being a grey area [like how different people react to *that* Akihiko and Haruki scene in Given] but it's emotionally coercive consent at best in my book). You are not overreacting. I feel like this makes you more emotional than I've seen you for other reactions because of the content, how much you relate to Shen Qingqiu, but also going into SVSSS knowing the healthy, functioning couples that Mo Xiang Tong Xiu can write and not getting the same here. Also, glasses are the worst for when you're upset and crying 😅 Completely agree that the dynamic between them crosses more into parent-child kind of territory quite a bit more than equal partners. And yes Shen Qingqiu really gives off the air that he thinks he's deserving of whatever giving in to Luo Binghe means for him in order to make up for his previous "choices" (which in a lot of occasions were more like ultimatums from the System), but also potentially his way of trying to make up for the actions of Shen Jiu both before Shen Yuan transmigrated and in the original novel, which he does not need to do and he should have a conversation with Luo Binghe to help him understand it all. Again, this novel just needs a little communication and equality between the main leads 🥺 I'm glad you took some time off between reading and the discussion to help process, and I hope the next chapters have been more enjoyable for you. SVSSS definitely gives me the biggest emotional rollercoaster of how I feel about the characters in comparison to all three of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's works. I could completely understand being at the point of wanting to quit reading after this. I know Volume 3 and 4 took me the longest to read through because I kept stopping and starting, and going off to read other things. Some of those other things did involve toxic couples but I think I've realised why I have more of an issue with Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe's relationship than some of those incredibly toxic couples in some manhwa I'm reading: the perspective of how the characters are presented. In the red flag manhwa it's clearly shown that the couples are toxic for one another, or that one partner is just a walking red flag (and believe me there are some that are much worse than Luo Binghe, but they're sometimes not the end game romantic partner). In SVSSS it reads more as we should simply accept Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu's relationship as it is presented and not call out the inequality, or Luo Binghe's toxic traits, because Shen Qingqiu doesn't call them out. Agreed, Romeo and Juliet are immature idiots 🤣 It really needs to be taught better in schools though. It is not a love story for the ages; it is a tale of tragedy of two immature children leaving a trail of death behind them, and deciding that *more* death is the only solution instead of proper communication 😐 I will say though that there is an interesting webtoon that follows Rosaline, Juliet's cousin, after her becoming pregnant with Romeo's baby and the fallout from Romeo and Juliet's relationship. It's called Go Away Romeo 😁 If I want a "traditional" love story honestly I'm not going to Shakespeare for one, give me Jane Austen's Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet any day 😂🥰 Luo Binghe deserves love yes, but in turn Shen Qingqiu deserves love, and they both deserve a healthy relationship which they could get if they'd only communicate. And by communicating they can both grow as individuals and as a couple 🥺

I’m deeply sorry you had to go through this. I’m glad the other chapters are treating you well, as I hoped they would. I actually waited to listen to this so I could hear you read a happier chapter set. I didn’t fully listen to the chapter discussion (I made it to 1:34:01) but I can agree with you on some things. I think books that feel incomplete/messy make for better fan material.

And hahaha, honestly, after these chapters, I needed some that focused on other people. And the Twilight comparison...is not wrong! XD I am also glad that MXTX grew as a writer and figured out how to take some of the elements in this story and make them work with her other couples. Thank you for the support and yes, I've left these chapters long behind! :)

I honestly forgot these couple got that bad myself 😟 Ah SVSSS, my problematic fav… 😅 I’m glad you’re enjoying the upcoming extras, because I do remember some of those being my favorites (though I did really like the first part of the Bingge vs Bingmei extra and the child extra) Ironic that the remaining ones are also the ones that focus the least on the main couple. It kinda reminds me of how I really loved Twilight in high school and then when I got older I realized that every other character has a more interesting backstory compared to the main couple, lol. I agree that jealousy doesn’t have to be bad. And I think MXTX later realized that too. LWJ is shown to be jealous on a few different occasions after all, but the difference is that he never made that WWX’s problem or took it out on any bystanders or anything. I’m glad you are taking care of yourself during these difficult chapters. I look forward to seeing you in future weeks where we can hopefully put them behind us.
