This chapter builds us up to the prelim, but reporters are knocking on the doors to interview the team, the practice is ramping up, and Kakeru voices his concerns with Haiji and VICE VERSA!
I love how this is being built up and I feel we're about to be at the summit and then it'll all be downhill from there!

Haiji is just a literal SAINT! I just love how he works with Prince in this novel! I really like the photo albums and the little peak into Yuki’s family this early on as well! I will admit, I appreciate the anime’s talk with Kakeru and Yuki as well! Kakeru supporting Haiji just makes me so happy - a shipping moment indeed! I definitely can see the idea that Haiji just wanted Kakeru to make the twins either more aware of Hana’s romantic interest to quit beating around the bush or to stop it to not let their focus shift - your interpretation makes my shipper heart feel better! The symbolism of the swords works really well! And the fact that the bikini photo worked? The landlord is essentially Master Roshi, hahahaha! But him falling ill was NOT what I expected, either! What a cliffhanger moment! I want Musa to find that long term relationship as well – coughcough – we’ll see with whom, maybe? I really would like to think that Haiji gets confessions because…I MEAN…but maybe people don’t get ‘close’ enough to Haiji to really see what a saint he is! And yeah, I could see playboy in how “mischievous” he is, but not flirty…well..unless you’re Kakeru! 😛 Thank you for the comment!

He doesn't shirk back from mentioning that Prince can't quite attain the same kind of improvement with the 20km run as everyone else has, but he does put him down for this. Instead he motivates all of them to continue improving 🥺 Very interesting that it's through the discussion of Nippon TV following their journey that leads to us starting to learn about Yuki's family life. Of course Haiji would enjoy the pun on the banner 🤣 Aww the photo albums are so cute. I can understand them not being in the anime. Though if the anime was done now I feel like they'd have an episode of this moment to give them a recap episode of the events that have happened up to that point. Kakeru being supportive of Haiji when Haiji has a moment of wavering in belief he's coaching the right way will never not make my shipper's heart sing 🥺🥰 What I took from Haiji's continued remarks regarding Hana-chan and the twins was that Kakeru needs to sit the twins down and make them less clueless about Hana-chan's romantic interest in them both (or bring a stop to it all so as Joji and Jota's focus isn't shifted from running to romance), rather than it being Haiji thinking Kakeru would be jealous of the twins being with Hana-chan. I love the symbolism of them being swords honing their edges 😍 But I definitely like going into the detail of how runners can be thrown off by something come the actual day of the race because they haven't been able to manage their body and stress well. I had to pause when we got to the plan to distract the landlord with a bikini picture so as I could facepalm. Cannot believe that actually worked 😆 Musa out here looking for a truly long term relationship 🥰 Book you can't end there!!! Let Prince tell us about your love life Haiji!!! 🥺 I wonder if Haiji gets a lot of love confessions. It's really hard to separate novel Haiji from anime Haiji and in the anime I just couldn't call him a playboy type character. If anyone that description fit (at least in the anime) it would be Yuki; who we got a scene of chatting some women up in a club way at the beginning of the anime. I do have to say I kinda prefer how the anime did the whole Kakeru and Yuki moment with Yuki's Mum. Definitely wasn't expecting the landlord's ill health at the end of this chapter 😲
