DORORO: Episode 6 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Ahhh, this episode! T-T The emotions in this episode really hit hard. I like that Tahomaru has Hyogo and Mutsu there to keep him from going “full Daigo,” if we can deem it that way. And that they keep him in line. I agree too that he has his father’s horrible eyebrows and hair, haha, but he does seem to be softer like his mother. I definitely feel for him not knowing about Hyakkimaru and feeling they’re keeping secrets from him, though, too. I just was so heartbroken for Mio. And the way that Hyakkimaru just felt for her without knowing any of that. But yeah, Biwa-maru is right in how he can be SO stubborn. And yesss, very similar to Tahomaru, but on different levels! That’s a great point! Hyakkimaru also shows he has a one-track mind sometimes, especially in leaving Mio and the kids because he thought they’d be fine or took for granted them being targeted. That stubbornness allowed for that to happen, and yes, makes it all the more tragic. Hyakkimaru’s first word being Mio, too? STOP SHOW. NOPE. Yeah, Berserk is MUCH more brutal and grotesque with its violence and…themes…but in a way, I like Dororo more because of how IT handles it. Huckleberry doesn’t care for my woes if he decides it’s “ball throwing time.” He’s a brutal tyrant sometimes. And yeah, the deaths just HAPPENING make it all the worse. And yeah, I felt for Dororo wanting Hyakkimaru to not give into his anger and become more of a “monster,” it’s just so sad! 🙁And yes, now Enya’s singing is in my ears, too! The VA for Tahomaru - OOOOHHHH, interesting! I am really excited about that! Thank you for the info and the kind words and comment!

Definitely understand the stall tactics for this episode 🥲 A week late and I've finally watched your reaction 😅 Take saying he has to look after the "little ones" is such a throwaway line but hurts me. Like both Dororo and Take are still little kids, but because of the era and all the war surrounding them they've had to grow up far too quickly and be mature beyond their years in order to survive 😢 The dream the orphans and Mio share seems like such a simple one. I think that's why it makes me so emotional that they never manage to achieve it. But it is yet another great way of showing the true victims of war. It is great that Tahomaru has Hyogo and Mutsu to help keep him from being more like Daigo, and more of an entitled brat. They don't have the same standing as him (as shown by them kneeling on the ground whilst Daigo, Tahomaru, and the Mum were up on the wooden walkway around the house). So the fact they're able to speak out against some of Tahomaru's more negative behaviour definitely made me like Tahomaru a little more. I feel like this shows that whilst he got his looks from his father, he does have parts of him that are more like his mother. It does make you feel for him that he doesn't know what his parents are hiding from him. Your heart definitely goes out for Mio, especially with her trying to be strong around the younger ones but when with Hyakkimaru (who is her age or at least closer to her age than the others, and physically stronger than her) the facade of everything be okay breaks 💔 I also love that Hyakkimaru doesn't want to speak because his voice is too loud for his ears. Reminds you that he isn't used to sounds yet 🥺 Also gotta love Biwa-maru for pointing out Hyakkimaru's almost childish stubbornness 😂 Though it is an interesting mirroring of Hyakkimaru and Tahomaru's personalities that even though they've had completely different upbringings both have a childish streak and can be on the stubborn side (though I'd say Hyakkimaru is the more stubborn of the two as Tahomaru at least backed down in this episode). I don't blame Hyakkimaru for wanting to go fight the demon again, but that choice did leave Mio and the children completely unprotected 😭 Things might have turned out differently if he'd just stayed there until he was completely recovered 🥺 Feel like that makes Mio and the children's deaths all the more tragic. But yeah the voice acting for Dororo is what always makes my tears start because you can feel his pain and grief that they were so close to achieving their dream 😭💔 And then Hyakkimaru's first word is Mio's name, but she's no longer there to be able to hear him. Painful episode. Especially having Mio's song, that she sung when she was sad instead of crying, being sung as Hyakkimaru and Dororo continue on whilst clearly grieving but not crying. I haven't watched Berserk but from what I do know of it, this episode especially, is why I thought Dororo would be a fitting replacement for Berserk. They didn't give us the villainous monologue a few episodes ago so we gotta have the shounen trope of the main characters being able to just walk off grievous injuries like a lost limb 🤣 I did giggle a little that you're trying to discuss something so emotional like Mio's life and the death of the kids, meanwhile Huckleberry is just "Ball now, human!" 😂 But yes their death is brutal. I feel it's all the more effective because there's no villainous monologuing from the samurai on why they're killing a young woman and a bunch of kids. We just see them arrive, and then get shown some deaths. It definitely helps to paint the samurai on Daigo's side in quite the negative light (which we already got a bit of with how worn out and bruised Mio was after visiting both camps). I do think it is then harder to see Hyakkimaru as a monster when he's simply getting vengeance/protecting (too late) a person he cares for. But the brutality of how Hyakkimaru kills the samurai does help him seem a bit more bestial. I definitely agree though that although it is gory in places, they don't linger on such scenes to gratify the violence. Which I feel further helps with the show's subtextual commentary on how war is a bad thing that just creates a cycle of victims. Glad I'm not the only one to think of Maximus in his field of wheat in Elysium with all those scenes of the golden rice paddies 🥺 First time I watched it I did have Enya's Now We Are Free start playing in my head 😅 Seiyuu you will have heard before this episode are: Tahomaru is voiced by Chiba Shouya. Other characters he's voiced are Su Rin from Banana Fish; Sigma from Bungou Stray Dogs; Nozen Shinei from 86; and Imamura from Blue Lock. Hyogo's seiyuu is Matsuda Kenichirou who has also voiced: Scott from Pluto; the Narrator and Bond (the dog) from Spy x Family; the Bat Devil from Chainsaw Man; and Thors and the Narrator from Vinland Saga.

I would not be surprised if Miura watched this as a child! And with it being from Tezuka, I can absolutely believe that Miura was exposed to this series! I definitely feel that some of the older animated shows are more brutal because even if not as “detailed,” they are much more BLUNT and just straight to it with the content. But yes, there is definitely a difference with Hyakkimaru killing the demons in this and it’s so sad to watch! Very Guts like to me this episode! And feels very reactionary as well! Hahaha, thank you for not going further yet – I am definitely interested in Dororo’s past, but also fearful as well! Hooo boy, yeah, I definitely would like a little reprieve from it in 2025 – mauve have some of those nice things! ;) Ahh, thank you for the comment and kind words! How can we not shed tears for Mio! I am very excited for the next set of episodes to come as well, so thank you!!

I love Dororo too! I’m very sure that Miura watched this as a child. I’m just a few years younger than Miura would have been and I remember watching similar “anime” when I was like 5 or 6. I’m sure that Tezuka being who he is in manga history, has influenced many works to this day. He is the god of manga for a reason! Glad you watched the first episode of Dororo 1969! Tbh, I only watched the first half of it too! I’m glad you didn’t watch the whole thing. I will agree, in some ways, it’s more brutal than this version. I’m almost done reading the manga and ( this is my opinion) love the anime so much more! I’ll just keep it at that in case you read it in the future. It’s worth a read! I’d always recommend reading any Tezuka works! This is the first time we see Hyakimaru kill a human or lots of them. There is a definite difference between killing the demon to gain your body back, and killing humans out of rage. I can’t even say it’s for revenge, he is truly reactionary at this point. The conversation between Dororo and Mio, I read that a bit differently. I’ll just leave that there. “The year of sexual assault “ well, I can’t agree with you more! Unfortunately it’s all around us. I’m trying not to get political here, this country is now governed by these predators. At this point, I’m not even surprised. I view works that deal with these topics (some better than others) as reflections of humanity. This is why we can’t have nice things! Well, we are fracked…. Loved your reaction as always, knew it would be brutal. I always shed tears for Mio! Looking forward to next episode.
