RUN WITH THE WIND: Novel Reaction! Part Seven!

*Preliminary Headphone Warnings*

The Preliminary was simultaneously a tense and yet somewhat anticipated moment in the anime, but the novel manages to amp up the tension, change some aspects from the anime, and still give us the Haiji x Kakeru flirting - EXCUSE ME - that I'm craving!

It feels like we're not quite ready to be "all downhill from here," yet, though!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

RUN WITH THE WIND: Novel Reaction! Part Seven!

Comments

Ahhh, at least Joji didn’t run into the “bathroom drama” that Hinata did! And YES, the writing of the novel makes you so concerned they won’t make it, even when you know otherwise already. And yes, the strategy of “tracking distance” worked really well! Prince is so funny in this! And him admitting he wants to join in the dream? MY HEART! I mean, both the novel and anime are so good with the KakeHai moments! Haiji having the code was so sweet! But yeah, the novel really hits home just how much Haiji is putting in with this team, especially with his own struggles he’s dealing with. The moment he said “it’s just you” was so sweet - I almost felt it was too soon, considering how we get it in the anime at the end, but we’ll see! And yeah, the casual racism - *sigh* - I was a little surprised, but that was sad overall, especially when we get Musa’s perspective so much in the novel/anime. And I like how Kakeru was frustrated and Fujioka shows up to analyze as well - but I agree, Fujioka and Haiji DEFINITELY feel more like exes here than in the anime! I cannot fathom the times with the runners - that’s just WILD! And YES, the anime being the one to add the table moment?! I was surprised! And yeah, the novel makes up for it with adding on worry with Haiji’s leg but dang anime, way to be DRAMATIC! 😛 I agree, it was nice getting more insight in the novel as to what other teams were doing/wanting out of the race, especially since not all could technically qualify - and it adds some more realism to it. Yeah, at this point, I was dreading the Joji and Jota anime drama, but I was curious to see what the novel was going to do with that plot point! Thank you so much for the comment!!

Joji's nervous bladder immediately made me think of Hinata 😆 There was definitely a nervous anticipation while watching the prelim in the anime, but the suddenness of them already being at the prelim stage and the way the cacophony is described around them in the build-up to it starting definitely makes me feel much more worried and nervous for them...even when I know they're going to make it 😂 Crazy how good writing can leave you feeling that way. I love them using landmarks, such as the monorail, to help them know what distance they've travelled. Really smart way for them to keep track of their running pace for anyone who doesn't have a watch that also shows the distance they've run already. Prince calling out sports people as having delicate sensibilities made me laugh so much 🤣 Not sure which KakeHai moment I prefer. The novel with Haiji patting Kakeru's back, or the anime with Haiji murmuring "Go!" to Kakeru as he bursts off 🥰 The former ensures Kakeru is fully aware of Haiji's support, the latter I feel shows Kakeru how much trust Haiji has in him and his ability to run. Was not expecting that casual racist remark from that member of the crowd. But it is definitely an added realistic aspect so many athletes are unfortunately subjected to. I just love that Haiji had a full code worked out, and that all the Kansai members knew what the signals meant. We saw it in the anime too, but I think I would have appreciated a scene with him working those out. Though the novel does show just how much is on Haiji's shoulders 🥺 Haiji being enraptured by Kakeru's run 😍 But Haiji's words "it's just you" are making me want to tear up because it makes me think of the end of the anime and Kakeru saying that for him Haiji is the meaning of running 🥺🥲 The times for the prelims made me exhausted just hearing them 🤣 A runner I most definitely am not, even more my illness 😆 I do find it interesting though that the novel didn't have that terrifying moment with the water table getting hit in front of Haiji. But then all the moments about his leg definitely adds to that pooling fear for Haiji. I was not prepared for that Prince moment with him admitting that he wanted to join in with a dream the others had 🥺 I do like getting a glimpse at the other teams and seeing how teams differ in their goals. Love that there are some teams that knew they'd not get a place, but just wanted to run the prelim, and then have a pleasant day out with their team. Its a great contrast to the teams on the borderline who have that drive and want to get placed. And it is really nice that Kakeru doesn't think negatively towards the differing goals of those gathered for the prelim. Kakeru's frustration at the racism Musa got was perfectly portrayed in the anime, just the comments were made at a different time. And I love Fujioka's analysis that explains clearly why those racist comments are so infuriating. I need more Fujioka and Haiji novel moments though!!! 😍 Definitely giving off more ex vibes than the way their relationship is portrayed in the anime. I'm with you that Joji and Jota with the drama at this point was one of the negatives I had for the anime. Though definitely interesting that we have still yet to get Kakeru's past. It will be very interesting to see if it differs from how the anime portrayed it.
