Revolutionary Girl Utena: Episode 25 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*APOCALYPTIC HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

You all - there are not words to describe the RIDE that this episode was! Sex, Roses, and a whole lot of theorizing this week -- BUCKLE UP -- I'm doing a lot of theorizing and things are getting INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE with this seeming new "arc," and one thing is for certain:

Akio? He's gotta go, y'all.

Revolutionary Girl Utena: Episode 25 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Hahahaha, now I will have the Steppenwolf song stuck in my head, but I’m not mad about! I was NOT ready for this episode at ALL! Akio definitely has the Lucifer aesthetic down PAT. I am so glad I get to reference Scott Pilgrim in a series – I love that graphic novel series – and ugh, Akio just gives me the creeps with Anthy. The budget REALLY jumped up with this episode! That animation with the car scenes was insanely good. But the SEXUAL INNUENDO. Insanity! Akio is definitely on the level of Griffith, isn’t he? I think if I drank every time there was a sexual reference, I would have been sent to the hospital! That’s a great note about the sword not hurting being drawn from Utena from Anthy compared to the black rose duelists! I am going to already talk about that in a future episode, but now I can add to it! I definitely wonder if Anthy is because of her consent as well. But it could sadly be because she’s just…used to it..so…*chugs booze* I wonder too if “End of the World” is the moment one becomes an adult? I think there definitely is a correlation. This show rotates from fairy tale to Twin Peaks for me constantly, haha!! That line about “eternity” and death makes me think maybe the characters are all trying to avoid death by growing up – I’ll have to talk about that as well! Thank you for the comment and kind words and things to think about!

EXCUSE ME!? WHAT?! OH MY GOSH — well…this would definitely have led to some questioning middle schoolers because some of the imagery is NOT subtle. WOW. Thank you for that comment and the information!

Head out on the highway... it's a Steppenwolf episode! And like a fool I thought I'd be ready for this episode, but holy shit I was wrong! Even knowing we had a Nanami episode to prepare, they really just went pedal to the metal on this one, in every way possible, and then some! Crazy to see you call out Lucifer early at 3:24, way before Akio gives that to us himself, I was impressed! Also, thanks to your earlier observation, this time I noticed Anthy having her glasses on while watching Akio making moves on Utena - and she takes them off before joining Akio in galaxy sex at the end of the episode - which is putting it way kinder than it ought to be. I think it still fits along with what you said earlier about not wanting to see what happens when she's with Akio. And your Scott Pilgram comparisons fit nicely, didn't think of it that way before! The budget for this episode is really apparent, we're treated to so many new animation loops, and some of the cleanest animation yet around Akio's car hood hopping. I loved how fresh it all felt! I can't believe they got away with so many sexual references this episode either, we get Touga and Akio with their shirts off, and pants unbuttoned/unzipped and exposed in the same bed. And how terrible some of these characters are when you break them down. Griffith-level villain that Akio is, yes! Here's your impossible drinking game - drink every time there's a sexual reference in this episode! I also thought we were going to see Anthy fight for Utena after drawing the sword from her. Utena didn't seem to feel any pain from Anthy drawing the sword (in contrast to when all the black ring duels forcibly remove it from unwilling love interests)? I wonder if it being consensual or not results in how painful it is? Anthy never really shows any pain either I think - perhaps as the rose bride she consents to the act as her duty? Or perhaps she is just sadly accustomed to the pain of it, either way it's pretty terrible. Keep those drinks coming, this episode is something else! Wild guesses, but despite the show keeps telling us End of the World is a person - not sure I believe that - perhaps it is more just a state of being... End of the World perhaps meaning the end of one's child-like innocence? Not sure! The duels and rose bride and prince have a very children's game / fairy tale feeling to me. Perhaps desiring eternity is actually ironic because the one thing that's eternal is death! I still really have no idea what to expect ahead, and it was such a wild reaction to watch this week, can't wait to see what answers we get!

Again, I'm telling you that THIS WAS AIRED IN THE EVENING!! At pm6!!! Not midnight. It was supposed to be watched by CHILDREN. When I watched this episode first, I was literally a middle schooler. I could unlock some symbolisms. And I was repeatedly screaming like WTH!?
