It's the lead up to the final race, and the twins are feeling flighty, Kakeru's demons are flitting to the surface, and Haiji is hiding just how much of a toll the race prep is taking on his body...this chapter set was a LOT but it's building towards THE race of the novel and I cannot imagine what these final chapters of the series have in store for us!

Yes, the glasses fogging things up is one reason I stick with contacts a lot, haha! But thank you! Nira is surprisingly well-behaved, aren’t they?! I definitely didn’t see the twins’ argument in this, #justiceforHaiji! But yeah, the confrontation is more dramatic but the resolution easier - the apples and oranges compared between is wild! I can see those that like the anime resolution; I’m really partial to it! The trust circle is so amazing and was so moving! I do at least like in the novel that Kakeru shuts down the reporter, though, but the team bonding moment in the anime was so good. Kakeru having to investigate the twins is the epitome of “Why me?!” And yes, Kakeru having faith in Sakaki was so sweet but yes, I can’t see anime Kakeru like that! They are definitely different! 😛And suuuuure, Kakeru, the “loyalty” – sure! Is it weird that I know EXACTLY what you mean by the KNB moment!? Yes! That comparison; I can see it! Annie with the NSFW Gutter Mind Activate Mode! XD I loved Haiji’s choice of why the runners were picked as well! But yeah, poor Yukiiii – I feel for him! And yes, Hakone is here! 2025-03-27 03:06:51 +0000 UTCOne of the worst parts of wearing glasses is when you're drinking/eating something hot and it fogs them up 🤣 Definitely felt for you with your tea fogging yours up. Cooking at my Dad's I always have to remember to give it thirty seconds after I open the oven door before bending to lift anything out because the steam is so bad. Gotta say Nira is one well-behaved pup to neither bark at the people leaving gifts nor to root through them/eat them 😆 Poor introvert Kakeru getting lumped with the task of trying to find out what was bugging the twins 🥺 But I love that his solution is to just let things be and the two will explode eventually on their own 😆 Okay but Kakeru's innocence in thinking that Sakaki was moving on and no longer annoyed by the past is a little precious 🥺 I definitely can't see the anime Kakeru being mistaken like that. But novel Kakeru is definitely not as negative and twisted up inside himself. Completely agree on the lack of complaints coming from Haiji. It's probably what colours my feelings the most with this drama with the twins. He never talked about winning the Hakone Ekiden. They got all het up just because of their own assumptions. And here they're complaining about the work they have to put in and not being considerate of the extra work other members do within their team, and just how much extra work Haiji has 🤬 Interesting that the confrontation with the twins is more dramatic in the novel than I remember it being in the anime. Though does seem to get resolved much easier. Have to laugh that they say it's Kakeru's "loyalty" that would prevent him from trying anything with Hana-chan for the sake of the twins. Yup, sure, that's definitely the reason 😏 Gotta say the shoplifter moment did momentarily give me Kuroko no Basuke flashbacks with the Generation of Miracles taking out that thief on a moped 🤣 But the casual way Kakeru talks to the shoplifters is just like the beginning when Haiji chased after Kakeru on a bike 🥺 Love the mirroring of that moment. I think I prefer how the anime dealt with Kakeru's past. Mainly because in the anime he chooses to talk about his past with his teammates in their little trust circle. In the novel by having the reporter spill the information its almost as if Kakeru didn't trust his teammates with the information, or feel comfortable sharing it until pretty much forced. I do like that Haiji tried to shut down the reporter but accepted Kakeru's autonomy and choice to continue talking with him. I know Yuki most likely meant he didn't know how his Mum had the energy to run after a five-year old but I gotta admit my NSFW brain thought of it as her having the energy to conceive and give birth later on in life 😅 Haiji explaining why he chose which runners for which legs is one of my favourite moments outside of the races in the anime. I love that it wasn't just anime only 🥰 Poor Yuki though 🥺 Haiji basically told him "You don't need legs to practice law so 🤷♀" It's crazy to think we're about to start the Hakone Ekiden!!! 🥳
