March Comes in Like a Lion // 3 Gatsu no Lion: Episode 43 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*PASSING TO SPRING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

It's the penultimate episode and this series is ALREADY giving us so much "food for thought" for a possible third season! Seriously, Shaft...get on that!

Rei has grown up so much, as he helps prepare Hina for her entrance exams into her high school of choice: HIS! But, some news just reminds her of how change can be very bittersweet...I can't believe we only have one episode left!

The Hina and Rei moments are SO life-giving to me, I agree 100%! My heart definitely broke for Hina as well – I’m so glad that at least Rei is there for her but it was palpable how she felt in this episode! Change is really hard, especially when you separate from people you’ve grown up with your whole life! That is a good point about Hina and her father and remembering him uniquely. Ah, the journey of the middle child! March seems like the the 2000s for me with the tech in it! But I seriously love Rei taking care of HIna! It’s so sweet! And SERIOUSLY, the shippers are FEASTING on this episode with Rei’s confession and promise to be there for Hina! :3 And I love that the Aunt was “worried” about Rei but then falls to his charm just like everyone else! XD It is nice to have a male protagonist in a story like Rei, that’s for sure! I was not prepared to see Koda either! But I was really impressed with how much growth Rei showed in these moments! That was amazing!! I agree, I’m not ready for Rei to see Kyouko yet, but at least Koda is a START. And yessss, I’m glad we at least this season get confirmation that Rei and Hina will be in the same high school! :3 That is so sweet! I’m not ready for it to be the last episode, that’s for sure! This show is one I will dearly miss. Thank you for the comment and kind words!

This episode is so wonderful. All the Hina/Rei moments give me so much life. My heart broke so much for Hina in this episode. Seeing her struggle with losing yet another person in her life was hard, specially because it clearly affects her so much. But I'm glad that in the end she could remember that not everyone leaves, and I hope she can also remember to cherish whatever time she gets with the people she loves, which I think she does to an extent. Hina is in the unique position of being the only one of her sisters that would probably remember their father somewhat fondly. She was young enough that whatever discord that happened with him would have flown over her head, but not too young to not remember him. Momo is too young to ever really remember him, and Akari was probably in the thick of it all and has, therefore, a lot more resentment, as she would also have understood what was going on way better. So, Hina mentioning their dad makes perfect sense, for her to yearn for him, and feel his absence to the same degree, or comparable enough, that she does her grandmother and mother's. I don't quite know what year March takes place in, but it seems that it is early enough that calling and keeping in touch that way is not common, as we have also seen with Chiyo sending letters rather than calling. Otherwise, that would be a good alternative to keep in touch, and something that could help Hina feel less alone. Rei taking care of Hina had my heart. He looked so entirely soft and devoted while doing it. Ugh, it truly makes my heart ache with love. And that love confession he does? This truly was the Hina/Rei episode for the ages. The aunt being concerned over Rei, only for her to fall to his innocent, mature, and serious charm was great. It speaks well of Rei; and, as you mentioned, it's nice to have a male protagonist that can be so easily trusted, even if he does harbor romantic feelings. With everything going on this season, I was not prepared to see Koda again, and Rei's reaction to him is something I could not have predicted in a million years. I mean, he looked incredibly at ease with him, when the first time we saw them together, all the way back in the first episode, Rei had me believing he had genuinely killed the dude because of how uncomfortable and strained that relationship was. I'm so glad to see that Rei has come to terms with his childhood, as that is one of the hardest things to do as you grow up sometimes, and the parallel of it with his relationship with Shogi itself and how he has grown to love it warms my heart. Unbelievably, I'm actually excited to see Rei and Koda interact. I'm still not ready for Kyoko, but Koda seems like a good first step to take. Oh! Hina making it into Rei's high school is not exactly a surprise, but it is so welcomed. I so want to see Hina and Hayashida to have a talk. The one thing I am categorically not ready for is how next episode will be the last one of the season. I'm not ready to go on hiatus with this show.
