Romania & Bro: ARCANE Season 2: Episode 7 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

That's good to hear!! My brother is NOT a shipper, so he just barely humors my rants! :D

Hey i'm all for ships (weird and otherwise) mostly, even if this one didn't get me fully onboard.

Christopher Pettersson

That's fair; I appreciated that he at least didn't try to mack and pretend to be the other Ekko (well, as much as he could), but tastes are different - as is apparent with my brother's side eye at all my shipping! :D Yordle Spawning Mechanic!! Now THAT ... would be something! We shall seeeee! Thanks for the reply!

Romaniablack

Perhaps more that the show itself didn't do enough in the distinction between the two Ekkos for my tastes. His kiss "like it's the first time" still is weird to me. Yeah we'll just have to wait and see what the show does with it. But if they introduce some yordle spawning mechanic now it might feel a bit weird. :P

Oohhh, I love that this was your favorite episode! Yay! It was SO GOOD! I was hoping we’d get an explanation of where Ekko and Heimerdinger were and what happened to Jayce, but I love how they did it this week! It was so creative! Ooohh, that’s interesting about the masks! Thank you for noting that about them! It’s wild to see how ONE PERSON affects a world so much! Of course, we were joking about Vi dying causing everything to change; of course I ascribe to non-linear history and that things are more complicated than that. 🙂 That IS a nice point about Heimerdinger’s different choice, though, with helping Ekko. Seeing Jinx so happy was very bittersweet, but lovely to see! And yeah, after my brother and I discussed his choices in Episode 6, it was good to see Jayce explained here. But yessss, watching Jayce’s journey through Hell while Ekko danced the night away – oh now the world works! But yeah, that infested leg looks…gross. I’m a bit concerned about that, honestly! Ohhhhh the 4fps and the 4 seconds is so cute!! I love that little detail! There were so many really little details in this episode and those scenes that were so well done! The fact that she was keeping those crystals?! Wild. Maybe they’ll stay in that drawer forever and their AU will stay safe! :3 But yeah, the entire “What If’s” with this episode was so wild and mildly heartbreaking, too! I totally agree - space buns? CHECK. Loose bob? Not for Powder/Jinx for me. That is so awesome about the song for them charting! It is really beautiful! I hadn’t known of the Time Bomb ship until now but it all makes sense now! Ooohhhh, and that note about the clock reflexing Jinx! I will have to go rewatch for that. I just love that line from Silco as well - it seems to apply to a LOT of characters in this show, for sure. This was so sweet and yesss, the parallel to S1 EP7 too now! This show is definitely fantastic! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I don’t blame you for the long comment, especially when it’s an episode you love!!

Oh, the multiverse roulette was a ride this episode! I can ship the AU Ekko and Powder, but not our Ekko and THAT powder, if that makes sense. Perhaps I didn’t express that enough in the discussion. In the discussion, my brother and I talked about Hiemerdinger as well! Thanks for the comment!

Romaniablack

Well, in the multiverse roulette vi can safely say Heimerdinger and Ekko hit the jackpot and Jayce? Not so much. So i guess Ekko and Powder were cute in this episode but i can't really ship them. Our Ekko essentially invaded another man's body, macked on his girlfriend and then peaced out, that's not great. the original Ekko from this utopian timeline? sure go for it, that's just not the person we got to see. And did Heimerdinger also return or did he die (whatever that means after that yordle lore your brother dropped)? My first thought was that Heimerdinger ended up in this utopia without entering someone's body (like Jayce) and that's why he just disappeared when he also was teleported back. If not? Ekko atleast gave his duplicate their body back but Heimerdinger killed his instead.

Okay, just to preface this, this is my *favorite* episode of the show, and this comment will get long because of it XD The way this episode came OUT OF NOWHERE is insane, and one of my favorite things about it. After the insanity that was episode 6, just jumping to this, very necessary but COMPLETELY DIFFERENT episode had my jaw hanging low on the ground. As for the masks in Ekko's shop, well, we can actually see that they are the same masks that were there in Benzo, and Ekko's shop way back in the first couple of episodes of season 1. It's a nice little detail that they are there. And, to make things even cooler, one of the masks is the owl mask that Ekko ends up using as the leader of the Fireflies, though it does seem like Ekko adds a little bit of flair to it later on XD Seeing this peaceful world come to be because that one event went differently is so interesting. Vi dies and, as you said, Jayce is most likely exiled because his experimentation is no longer harmless and can't be exempted with just a slap in the wrist; and, without Jayce and hex tech Viktor probably died as well. I mean, there won't be hex core, or even Shimmer advanced enough to help him because Silco didn't fund Singed's experiments, to help him heal. Crazy chain of events all around. Personally, though, I do not ascribe to the idea that everything went well because Vi died, but rather that her death shone a light on all the things that both the Piltovian Council and Silco and Vander were trying hard to ignore and not see. It was impossible to ignore them anymore. Plus, let's not forget that OUR Heimmendinger made his way to this peaceful world, the AU world just about 3 years ago, and he was VERY aware of the ways that Piltover had failed Zaun and wanted to make amends that he probably actually did in this AU world. My thoughts on Heimmendinger helping Ekko build the anomaly while he wouldn't help Jayce (brought from him mentioning that he can not help a brilliant lad, *again*) is that Heimmendinger learned his lesson. Actually helping Ekko makes him being involved with how Hex tech develops; instead of just being the preachy old man that is just annoying and has outdated views, he can actually put in his grain of salt with a voice that will be respected more, not from a mere mentor who doesn't get it, but a partner who has the same goal in mind. "Your ideas change the world" is something I love about Jinx, and such a phrase to come out of Ekko, who has being fighting those ideas for as long as we've known him. She does, even if so far those ideas have not been for the best, they have changed the world every time. It's like Viktor was saying in the previous episode, she could create so much good, but she is afraid of it after only creating chaos so far. And in the AU world, she is afraid of it after losing her sister, her biggest support and cheerleader; but she has all the potential. After being so critical of Jayce, this episode really made him make more sense XD I still think that him shooting Viktor comes out of nowhere, but I guess seeing this terrible world made him really hate Hex tech and everything it does, and being terrified of it... though he does have that crystal in his wrist now, I wonder how he feels about that. The back and forth between Ekko enjoying his life with his childhood crush, and Jayce going through the seven circles of hell was HILARIOUS and I kept laughing whenever the switch happened. Even now, I find myself laughing at it. Seeing Jayce go through all of that, though, made me be very sympathetic towards him. And I have to ask, what happened to his infested leg? He made himself that brace to walk again, but he couldn't have healed it, could he? Right? If there is something that will have my heart every time is that dance scene between Ekko and Powder. The fact that it was animated in 4fps, and Ekko can go back only 4 seconds is such a fun little detail and speaks so well of Fortiche's care with every detail of the animation. But also, the animation feels very nostalgic to me, as if Ekko was remembering it in a way that indicates he wants to live in it forever. Powder looked very sad to me through this whole episode. She was likely confused about what was happening to her boyfriend, because Mylo and Claggor calling them "Zaun's royalty" (!!!!) and the cute little doodle Powder clearly made, as it wasn't in Ekko's art style, in Ekko's notebook that we see at the very beginning of the episode point to Powder and AU Ekko already being a couple. Also why Powder would go for the kiss very naturally, and Ekko would have to ask her to *pretend* this is their first time kissing when it most likely is Ekko's first time kissing Powder/Jinx, and if it isn't his first time, I need that scene ASAP XD Ekko just asking people if they killed/tried-to-kill their sibling/partner was so hilarious to me. You would think that by the time he sees Silco he would have the finesse to not just blurt that out *lol* but, to be fair to him, he was seeing his mortal enemy be chill and nice. I particularly like the detail that we see Powder, in the memory of Vi's death, never really letting the hex crystals go. Makes the reveal at the end of the episode of her having the shards make a lot of sense. She just likely never tried to figure them out because, a) she feels guilty that her inventor mind, wanting the crystals got her sister killed, and b) she stopped being a creator after it and didn't want to try to figure them out. Now Ekko has planted all these ideas that she can create things that change the world, and she has seen what those crystals can do. Though, I also find it curious, and just a little encouraging and hopeful, that she never offered those larger crystals to Ekko and Heimmendinger when she saw they were using the shards to try and recreate the anomaly, so maybe she is weary of them. Seeing grown up Mylo and Claggor was such a heart-wrenching moment, what could have been, indeed. I like that we see how they, in a more peaceful world, grow up to be creative and inventive, even if they might not be to the level of Powder and Ekko. Piltover and Zaun are twin cities, aren't they? And Piltover is the city of progress and innovation; so, why wouldn't Zaun be filled with brilliant minds that could never flourish because of the terrible environment and circumstances they had to live in as well? It just makes sense to me. Look, Powder with the space buns? Very cute. Lose, short hair? Not so much XD The way this episode just made me reckon with Timebomb is insane. I didn't ship Ekko and Jinx too much in season 1; I was curious about the ship, but couldn't quite see it. This episode converted me. I see it now. I can never unsee it. Jayce dragging his hammer through the dirt in the parallel world makes so much sense. That hammer is huge, of course it's super heavy; the only thing making it easy to wield was the hex tech, and that apparently doesn't work in this universe anymore, or doesn't work because it's hex tech from another universe, I don't know, but it makes the hammer be as heavy and difficult as you would imagine. Fun fact, Ma Meillure Ennemi, the song Ekko and Powder dance to, went on to top song charts after Arcane ended. It's just such a good song. When Ekko first gets into AU Ekko's body and goes to the clock to see himself in the reflection, a really neat detail is that when Powder gets close to him to talk, the reflection in the clock isn't Powder, but Jinx. More than anything, I love that one of the central ideas, at least in my eyes, of this episode is what Silco says, "greatest thing we can do in life is find the power to forgive"; after everything we have seen in this show, I feel like this is what the show has being moving towards this whole time, which makes this whole escapade really significant; especially when paired with Ekko's "the more I saw the bad things happening in Zaun I forgot they could be good and gave up in them, gave up in you (Jinx)". Really, I'm obsessed with the way they brought these ideas into play, the way they made them relevant, and the timing of this episode; not only because this being the 7th episode of season 2 and being an Ekko/Jinx focus episode parallels season 1's 7th episode and the bridge fight, but because this is the first episode of the last arc, when everything needs to come together and get solved. Truly, what a fantastic show. P.S. I know I said this comment was going to be long because I adore this episode, but I wasn't expecting it to be this long O.O
